Forgotton Half-elf Registered User Jan 25 2013, 1:44pm Views: 1816 Extended Lord of the Rings DVDs All I can say is BLOOMIN AWESOME! Why oh why did they cut those scenes out is beyond me! Ok, there were a couple in Return of the King that I was like "Yeah, I can see why those are gone" But who cares if it makes the movies 'too' long?! Its like watching another adventure within an adventure! The extra bits you get on the extended DVDs are also awesome - especially when they show you how they made the costumes and scene sets. A must buy!!

Sometimes information like that can ruin a film but that is NOT the case here. It enhances the viewing experiences. Getting to know the cast and crew made my connection to the movies infinity deeper. From Weta to Vigo to Shore there is so much to love about what went into the movies, and I would not have had that experience if it wasn't for the EE of those movies. Don't be hasty.

Can't wait for the same treatment with The Hobbit! As far as I'm concerned, I haven't seen AUJ until I've seen the extended cut! "These are Gundabad Wargs! They will outrun you!" I'm pretty sure that if this was done the same way as LotR, scenes like "Blunt The Knives" would have been extended-only scenes. I'm curious what they'll add. all we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us...

So glad they included the bit about the invention of golf: one of the most memorable bits of the book for me, and then to have it said by the book's best character (imo) as well was an added bonus. I'm looking forward to seeing Bilbo as a child (which is apparently in there), which will go nicely with Gandalf's remark about him in the theatrical cut. More Radagast and Goblin King please! My favorite movie is FOTR, and my favorite extras are on FOTR too. In particular, the first piece which is basically a Professor Tolkien documentary. I learned a lot about the man J.R.R. Tolkien from the dvd's, which in turn led me closer to the books, which is a lovely thing And now on the blu ray EE's, there is the additional Costa Botes docs....nice little extra treat for even more indulgence Welcome to TORn !

I can see why some scenes were removed, but there were others that I had wished they kept in the theatrical, like the scene with The Mouth of Sauron. How could they have originally not have that? It's in the novel, and that character is so delightfully eerie.

Magpie Immortal Jan 26 2013, 6:30am Views: 1108 The CB documentaries came with a third 'release' of the movies called Limited Edition. Each movie has two discs. One disc is double sided and has both the theatrical and extended versions on it. You chose which to watch as a menu option and you have to flip the disc over at the same point you change discs on the EE regardless of which version you watch. There are none of the extras that are available with the TE or the EE versions. The second disc in each set is the documentary. I think each is about an hour long. I just looked up FOTR LE and it's 109 minutes long. Amazon will tell you the length of the other two. It's raw, behind the scenes footage. There is no narration or fancy graphics or anything. Just the footage. It does show things we don't see in other features. I could recommend these if you can find them cheap. I got them on some special deal Walmart was running years ago. But for most of us, buying this set means everything we spend is essentially for this documentary so you have to ask yourself, how much are you willing to spend on it? There could be some slight advantage for some people who want the EE on one disc. But if I had to chose which version of the EE to buy I'd buy the one with all the extras. Hamfast Rohan Jan 26 2013, 3:18pm Views: 1022 Magpie nailed it..... as far as the Costa Botes original release ( which I don't have....) but the EE blu ray release goes like this.... Each film is seperated into two blu ray discs , the appendices are seperated over two discs ( unfortunately on dvd, not blu ray, so no hi def for the appendices ) and then a completely seperate disc for the Costa Botes footage ( sadly, also not hi def ) In short, the EE blu ray set is fifteen discs, 5 discs for each film. As far as Costa Botes, he is a documentary filmmaker personally chosen by Peter Jackson, and granted exclusive accesss to the LOTR production to film behind the scenes footage. The Botes docs are all approx. 1 hour in length, and contain tons of video clips of stars and production staff during filming. As far as picture quality, there is a great amount of debate that the blu ray transfer has a 'green tint' to the picture, but I have opted out of this debate because I think the picture looks great, and I focus more on the updated clarity of the visuals instead

What I love about the EE's is that the extra scenes, are not just cut out scenes, but they have made the whole movie work around them, to the point of changing a couple of lines and using different takes! I love that

The White Wizard The Shire Feb 7 2013, 12:18am Views: 850 The Only Bad Thing About the Extended Edition I love the Extended Edition and it is so much better , but there is one bad thing about it. The only bad thing about it is that when I go to friends's houses and I have to watch the regular edition I keep thinking, "where did that scene go?" and then I remember. After watching the extended edition five or six times a year I just can't watch the regular edition anymore.

ringme The Shire Mar 4 2013, 12:43am Views: 1005 ooh ya Indeed they are the most fun one can have with one's clothes on, particularly if watched on a 17inch laptop less than 2 feet away whilst lying in/on a bed. It's like having a TV the size of a living room wall. Sound is piped out of headphone socket to external amp,speakers and sub. omg what a cinematic xperience.
