as far as the Costa Botes original release ( which I don't have....) but the EE blu ray release goes like this.... Each film is seperated into two blu ray discs , the appendices are seperated over two discs ( unfortunately on dvd, not blu ray, so no hi def for the appendices ) and then a completely seperate disc for the Costa Botes footage ( sadly, also not hi def ) In short, the EE blu ray set is fifteen discs, 5 discs for each film. As far as Costa Botes, he is a documentary filmmaker personally chosen by Peter Jackson, and granted exclusive accesss to the LOTR production to film behind the scenes footage. The Botes docs are all approx. 1 hour in length, and contain tons of video clips of stars and production staff during filming. As far as picture quality, there is a great amount of debate that the blu ray transfer has a 'green tint' to the picture, but I have opted out of this debate because I think the picture looks great, and I focus more on the updated clarity of the visuals instead
