Barad-dur potential

This is my first post to the LOTR forum..but I was thinking about this topic the other day for some reason and I always wondered.....why we did not get much more in depth insight into Sauron's badass fortress of Barad-dur? What I mean is ...the fortress itself..what the inside looked like...it's inhabitants(Black Uruks, orcs, etc.) All of this would have or could have been extended by Jackson in the films I believe. We could have at least been treated to the inhabitants and the colossal armies being built there and then unleashed on Middle -Earth. What do you think?

sometimes less is more...

For me, I liked not seeing what was in there -- that way I could imagine something worse than the other bad-guy places we saw. It kind of helped to keep Sauron a bit more "mysterious" as the biggest and baddest guy, which I felt was in line with the book where Tolkien gives so few details. I know why they gave us the visual of the "eye" in the films, as they had to show "something" to visualize Sauron, but that imagery was a lot more effective to read about than see, I think. So not seeing everything helped to get a little of the unknown power of Sauron back, for me.

I suspect though that the major reason the films did not show it was because they did not need to, have the money for, or the time to create it or include it in the films!

Interesting to speculate on, thanks for posting this and hope to see more of you on this forum!

Yeah that could be..

a good idea in that NOT showing CAN be really effective.. but still I think it would have been really neat to have seen at least some aspects of Barad-dur more!

I am sure they would have had fun doing it....

After all, they would have had to top Isengard, so you know it would have been pretty amazing, whatever they came up with!

I'd really love to see someone make another version of LOTR, which would hopefully show some of the things Jackson did not. So maybe someday you'll get your wish!

This might have been better

In the prologue of FOTR. We only saw the final conflict on the slopes of Mount Doom.

We see a glimpse of it...

... in FOTR when Gollum was tortured there. And I'm not sure if this short moment when the Witch King get his armor in ROTK wasn't Barad-Dûr too (perhaps it was Minas Morgul). You can imagine how it would've looked like. If you look at Isengard or the Tower of Cirith Ungol. All where like small brothers of Barad-Dûr. But I think that showing the black fortress more from the inside would've destroy the mystery about/around Sauron. Sometimes a glimpse is more effective than showing too much of something especially of bad guy places and backgrounds.

But we already saw this in FOTR and TTT in Isengard. I'm sure there is no difference in Mordor by creating armies of Orcs and their armor and weapons ;-)
