I’m going on an adventure!

Very much like Bilbo, I have hastily packed and I am about to walk out my front door. Unlike Bilbo though, I have remembered to pack my pocket handkerchief (and many more things that I imagine he wished he had packed).

Farewell dear TORnSibs. Enjoy your month free of me. I’ll try and post an update (with a picture of some penguins) if I can. Until then, I bid you all a very fond farewell.

Take care and have fun! //

There it is: dwarves are not heroes, but calculating folk with a great idea of the value of money; some are tricky and treacherous and pretty bad lots; some are not, but are decent enough people like Thorin and Company, if you don’t expect too much.

Have a safe journey there

and be sure to come back again Wink

..The land of long-forgotten name:
......no man may ever anchor near;
..No steering star his hope may aim,
......for nether Night its marches drear,
..And waters wide no sail may tame,
......with shores encircled dark and sheer.

..O! Haven where my heart would be!
......the waves beat upon thy bar
..For ever echo endlessly,
......when longing leads thy thought afar

Trolls!

Lookout for trolls Daniel! They wear walrus skins these days with the tusks you know. Wink

I want you safe and to come home with your adventure stories. Lookout, you may come home changed you know, adventure is known to do that.

But have fun, i am sure the beauty there is very amazing.

I hope

He took some pocket handkerchiefs...

I hope he's not going to the Ice Bay of Forochel, there are no penguins there, and nothing good ever happens in that region.

enjoy!

I imagine this will be one of the things you remember best later in life. Be safe & take lots of pictures for the rest of us who are unlikely ever to travel to South Georgia.

Safe journey, an interesting time, and a happy return!

May Osse be kind, may you not have to face anything like the Helcaraxe, may there always be enough handkerchiefs and food, and congenial company as well. And at least the temperatures should be to you liking Wink (assuming, in my naiveté, that they won't be high enough to discommode you).

We shall await your return, if not with bated breath, still eager to hear --- read --- view whatever you'll have to offer.

Take good care of yourself! Namarie!

Very far south: South Georgia Island, to study the climate.

And make friends with the penguins! Laugh

He posted that while I was on my own adventure!

So jealous. When I was a kid, I wanted to be a marine antarctic ornithologist... one of my unfulfiilled dreams is seeing penguins in the wild. Maybe someday.

You might be right, i cant fully remember

I just have a hazy recollection he said something about storms on the ocean there and him being on a ship.

As you say, certainly very far from us in the UK now! have you seen any photos of the place he is going to? It looks incredibly beautiful.

An Update from Daniel

This came via our email group (take that Facebook).

Quote
Hello everyone :-)

I can't get on to TORn down here, so you can all have an exclusive update! I arrived safely on the Falkland Islands (after a minor delay on the Ascension Islands). The ship is delayed - we were supposed to leave yesterday, but we are now leaving ~8pm (UTC) this evening. The Falkland Islands are lovely - very barren, but still has beautiful landscapes. I've attached a photo - it's taken about 10 minutes to upload, so apologies if it hasn't worked. The crew for the ship are all Spanish - not very good when I can only count to 10 and say "hola" in Spanish! If anyone can give me a crash course within the next couple of hours that would be great. ;-)

Well, I must be off. I have heaps of emails to catch up on. I hope everyone is well.

Daniel

Oh yeah, here's the image he sent from the Falkland Islands:
