Favourite piece of End Credits Music from the Middle-Earth Chronicles thus far

Which did you like best?
Personally I love 'Song of the Lonely Mountain' from the latest Hobbit movie-it just has a great replayability value and a much lighter tone to it than the others. However, I also really like 'Gollum's Song'.

The other two just make me tear up every time (the Grey Havens scene doesn't help in RotK!)Laugh

I didn't listen to it all

But I think I liked the Song of the Lonely Mountain better than Gollum's Song.

Everyone was ready to go before the song was over, but I quite liked what I heard.

Gollum's Song

Fits the movie ending the best and overall is the best song.

Next would be:
May it be - sounds good but kinda generic
Into the west - fits better than may it be but i dont really like it that much
Song of the Lonely Mountain - dont like his voice - sounds weak to me but i could imagine someone else making a good go at it. Perhaps i will like it more after a few more listens.

Yes Gollum's Song really goes well with the ending

That last shot of TTT, slowly panning the camera upwards and arriving at Mordor was truly legendary.

This was harder than I thought

When I first heard Song of the Lonely Mountain, I didn't like it very much, perhaps partly because it's so different from any of the previous end credit songs, but it has grown on me and now I love it at least as much as any of the first three.

I picked May It Be, but it's very difficult to put the rest in any kind of order. Actually, I'm not even sure if I can say May It Be is my absolute favourite because I love all of the other ones too.

It's Gollum's song for me

That one has continued to grow on me more and more. It's got staying power.
If I hear May it Be again in my lifetime it will be too soon. Tongue

Gollum's Song

1. Gollum's Song
2. May It Be
3. Song of the Lonely Mountain
4. Into The West

I also note that my ordering of the LotR songs matches my ordering of the movies, roughly speaking. This is perhaps not a coincidence.

all we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us...

I think all the songs are very fitting for their films, and I like each of them very much.

There's a sad sort of clanging from the clock in the hall and the bells in the steeple, too.
And up in the nursery an absurd little bird is popping out to say coo-coo (coo-coo, coo-coo).

You didn't include "In Dreams"

It's really hard to choose, but I voted for "May it Be", partly because I've played it on my harp (along with "In Dreams") in church on several Christmas Eves over the past decade. The words sound like they could be a Christmas carol. Enya sings it too slowly, but I love the song.

I've also played "Into the West" and "Song of the Lonely Mountain" in my harp in church :-)

We've had 10+ years to listen to the other songs, and only 2 weeks for the new one. I like it in time, just not yet.

It perfectly captures the elven journey to Valinor, as well as the mortal journey beyond death. Very pretty song with powerful lyrics.

I like them all, but...

I voted for Lonely Mountain. Though I think all the songs fit well their respective movies, the Lonely Mountain is it's the most "lively" of them.

Because it was the first

and The Fellowship was actually life-changing for me... it's my favourite. I fall apart every time I hear the closing songs for FotR. Enya's voice, the lyrics and the song followed by In Dreams crawls right into my soul.

However, RotK's Into the West is right there next to it in impact and loving of it. The credit pics just kill me. So that, along with the song (lyrics especially) and the upheaval from the film's end... I'm a mess, fersher.

Neil Finn's Lonely Mountain song is great, but I like Thorin and the Dwarves' version better ;)

Two Towers is my least favourite. My favourite in opening scenes, least fav in ending music.

Revise my order

After quite a few more times listening to Song of the Lonely Mountain i am really liking it - his voice which was weak to me at first has come to sound good.

I would now order them.

1. Gollum's song
2. Song of the Lonely Mountain
3. May it be
4. Into the West.

Into the West, and a comment

I was pleasantly surprised at how well Finn's song worked at the end of TH:AUJ... when he was first announced I was all wth? and under-whelmed. But honestly I thought the piece and his performance were top shelf. Also it seems to me he's matured nicely over the years. Hopefully there's a second run in store for him.

'Song of the Lonely Mtn' just edges out 'Into the West' for me

Only just. Maybe because it strikes such a different tone from the other three so far? But I like them all! Though I enjoyed 'Aniron' more than 'May it Be.' And I would have preferred 'In Dreams' (the boys' choir piece) over either of the Enya songs as the theme song for FOTR; it fits better with the main story of the movie than either of the songs that focus so much on Aragorn and Arwen.

I'd never really been an Enya fan,

though i'd had a few girlfriends throughout the nineties who'd been fans, so i was certainly aware of her music, and liked her voice. So when she came up in the soundtrack at the end of the film that first time i saw Fellowship, echoing the scene where she actually sang in the film itself, it just seemed so perfect. I still remember sitting there in the audience, still stunned by what i'd just seen, with Enya's voice and music washing over me. It's one of my fondest memories. And even though i still wouldn't call myself an Enya fan, i do unabashedly love that song. It really was the perfect song, and singer, to close out that film.

And while i love the creepy mystery of Gollum's Song, and the majesty of Into the West is slightly overwhelming, they can't hold a candle to Enya's May It Be.

And the Neil Finn song is, just like AUJ itself, merely good. Not bad, but not great... good.
