Happy (almost) 2013! It's an (almost) new year's Fiesta!

Wow! It's the end of 2012 already, and what a 2012 it's been! We've had the opening of the first Hobbit Movie (and the announcement that there are two more to come), the TORn Hobbit special edition magazine, a staff member (MrCere) resident on the set (look for his upcoming reports, as everything he has permission to report on has to do with the next two movies), trailers, conventions, interviews...whew! Better yet, in 2013 we have the next Hobbit movie to look forward to, more conventions, more interviews as well as the upcoming oscar party in L.A. on the night of the Academy Awards: The One Expected Party.

The champagne is flowing freely in the champagne fountain and all libations are on the house today, so grab your favorite and let us know what your plans are for the weekend, for new year's eve and beyond!

*kicks juke bosx* a rousing rendition of "Auld Lang Syne" by Mariah Carey fills the room.

Happy weekend and Happy New Year everyone!! CoolHeartSmile

Happy (almost) New Year everyone!

May it bring you good luck with a new beginnings, and I hope it is filled with peace, joy, health and prosperity to all.

Smile

I am totally ready for 2013. 2012 has been an excellent year (topped off with a brilliant Middle-earth film), and now I am counting down the days until I go on my very own adventure.

Happy New Year!

An almost happy new year!

Does this mean I can have some almost-champagne tonight? Tongue (Seriously---I have some hard cider in the fridge, left over from Christmas.)

Right now, though, I'll just grab a peppermint latte to try and wake myself up. We're actually having winter here in North Texas, with snow on Christmas Day and now a dark, misty, and cold day, zzzzz.... Fortunately I don't have any deadlines, other than self-imposed ones, although I can be a pretty tough boss at times Smile

Tomorrow we're joining a friend who we first met at opening day of The Two Towers, nine years ago, to see The Hobbit again, this time in 3D HFR.

Here's to all the wonderful moments of 2012, and here's to 2013---may it have many, many more happy moments than sad ones!

Hugs to all my TORnsibs HeartEvil

Oh right, it is Friday

I'm more lost than usual as to what day it is over this holiday season! Looking forward to the new year as well. Finally got to take the g'son to see The Hobbit and we both loved it, although he was a little freaked out by Gollum. I'm hoping for a return viewing but there are so many movies out right now that I want to see and I know I will not get to them all, let alone repeat viewings.
The other side of the family is coming over tomorrow so we'll have some more Christmas for a couple of days.

Champagne sounds great, Altaira, thanks!

Wait, it's Friday?

Wow, with that break of Christmas in between and having time off, I totally lost time.

Indeed, what a year it has been!
Finished my first year of my study (a bit boring, but it took a lot of work).
And I went to New Zealand for the Hobbit premiere! That was the absolute high light of the year!

No special plans for this weekend, visiting mum and dad. Nothing planned for New Years Eve, for I have to look all fresh and young when I turn a year older on New Years Day (what a day to celebrate a birthday).

Have a wonderful time! I'm going to sip on some champagne from that amazing fountain you have!

Happy Fiesta, everyone!

Just finishing some rather smooth merlot, having returned from my second viewing, with friends, of The Hobbit - well, except for the first twenty minutes or so (gnash gnash) because of traffic delays. At least we arrived in time for the Misty Mountains song - that gives me goosebumps on my goosebumps. Ah well, I'll just have to go and see it again, won't I? (and again, and again...) have a good weekend, and I hope the New Year brings some better weather for all those dealing with floods, blizzards etc etc.
Cheers, all!

Auld Lang Syne!

I was just singing that a short time ago!

I missed Fiesta - was hurriedly finishing things at work at noon today, then rushed home to help the eldest pack and then get her off on the train.

Then had to prepare for a "party" this evening - a pot-luck at the home of our music director (who also gives piano and voice lessons), with the "entertainment" being each of her students performing. (I'm in her "Digital Divas" group, six gals on digital pianos, and we did an awesome Pachelbel's Canon.)

So I'll get some water for tea boiling, a cup of Earl Grey would be nice now.

And yes, what a 2012 it's been, bring on 2013! Smile

And in your case, she has exceedingly good taste. Cool

Some here have said they'd happily listen to Sean Bean reading the phone book, but I'd shove him aside and put Richard Armitage in his place (speaking in his lower Thorin register). Mmmm, happy thoughts...

Thanks, I needed a bit of sharing of those happy thoughts...mmmmmmm indeed.

Sean Bean never did it for me, with or without the phone book. But I'm with you on Richard Armitage in his Thorin voice...he could read my bank statement for all I care. In fact, he could probably even forego reading anything and just get on to the smouldering looks...*ahem*. I never thought anyone could out-hot Legolas...I feel like a traitor...but there it is. I fear my allegiances have switched. Can't wait to see them both together in the next film.

Funnily, I was given a complete set of The Vicar of Dibley for Christmas (whoo hoo!), and the final two episodes coincidentally enough co-star Richard Armitage. I watched them both last night...yes, he's good looking there, but the power and charisma (not to mention the deeper voice) of Thorin aren't even hinted at. I don't think I've seen him in anything else.

Okay, so...I know I'm supposed to be the dignified Mrs. NZ Strider now, but...c'mon, when's the next Estrogen Island???!? Cool

That just might be

a good reason for me to finally get an iPod...I wouldn't have to admit to anyone what I had on constant repeat! Ha!

I don't have the soundtrack yet in any form, but I fear I have to get it soon. I have, however, been watching the video clip of them singing "Misty Mountains" (which was posted on TORn a few weeks ago) as often as possible...we only have a dial-up connection so it takes about half an hour to load, and thus requires some dedication, but hooo-weee it's worth it! I think I watched it about 23 times in bed the other night before my laptop went wonky. I had no idea AUJ (and the Dwarves therein) would be this much fun. Cool

Yes, Ataahua, picture? Please?

Hey I found it! :)

Yeah, Mr Kel bought me mine for Christmas and he also got me an iTunes giftcard, so I used that to buy the soundtrack when we got home from the movie Cool

Thinking about getting one of TORn's hot dwarves t-shirts now Laugh Never thought I'd look at a dwarf that way Laugh

Less hairy than expected too.

*SWOOOOOOOON*

Thanks for that. Cool My inner fangirl is enjoying the indulgence.

Alas, I didn't know I wanted the soundtrack in time to ask for it for Christmas. Actually, nevermind the soundtrack. I should have just asked for Thorin himself.

And you were worried about hot dwarves ;)

I loved it too - as much as the LOTR movies. Especially Thorin - he's not just a grumpy dwarf - he's a King. LOVE Martin Freeman. He's taking good care of my friend Bilbo and I'm so grateful for that.

Ataahua and I . . .

were discussing what to call Thorin fangirls. I suggested "Thornies" and as I suspected she might, Ataahua came back with "the T is silent."

I'm in that club, but then, RA's had my heart - or something - since North and South.

She's that old already?

It seems like just yesterday that the first had been born, and you came to Fiesta with the subject line "Moo". And all us moms knew exactly what you meant! Laugh

Did you find that she learned to walk early on, in order to keep up with her brothers? Smile

"Spooks"/"MI5" and "North and South"

Are both great opportunities to see more of Richard Armitage.

I see that others have already recommended them. Let me add my recommendations to theirs. :)

Great to see you, Ro. Happy New Year to you and the family.

I mooed less

this time around, I think...guess I was resigned to my fate. :-)

Yup, 16 months now. She did walk earlier (12 months) than her younger older brother (13 1/2 months), but Eldarion, fired up as he was/is, walked at exactly 11 months. So she's in between. She's about in between with the talking, too, but she sure has figured out how to aggravate her brothers: she naturally wants to be in the middle of every Lego or train-building project they've got, which results in screeches and howling all around and (usually) destruction of said project in about 3 seconds. Sigh.

Bwahaha!

"Hi, I'm Thorny. The "T" is silent."

He's got my something too. Or at least Thorin does. I'm going to make a concerted effort to find North and South now and see if he keeps my something after that. I liked him in The Vicar of Dibley but he didn't smoulder.

Nothing fancy

Mum and dad will come over. As will my brother, his wife and my cute 3 year old nephew.

Maybe some friends, but they weren't sure they could make it. They also had to visit parents and grandparents.

That's always a bit of a problem. I either have to throw a grand party, so everybody wants to come. Or celebrate it a few days later (but mum insists on coming on the day itself). Usually I end up with celebrating it a couple of times Cool.

I gave in!

About 30 seconds after Thorin made his entrance, dwarvish hotness was no longer an issue. At all. Now my only worry is how many times I can get back to the theater without appearing obsessed...this was a lot easier when I lived alone when the LotR movies came out!

Glad you enjoyed the movie too. :-)

It's been ridiculously changeable

even by the standards of our part of the world. :) We caught the tail end of Cyclone Evan, and it was stormy enough to take out our electricity for a couple of hours on Christmas Eve. Since then, everything from driving rain, choking humidity, baking (though not nearly as warm as your recent temperatures) dry heat... Today's actually quite nice: sunny and dry with a slight crispness in the air.

Fortunately we had the sheep shorn before the warm weather started!

We had three days of 28, 30 and 30 degrees.

NP has never had two 30-degree days before. Heck, I don't think we've previously had two 30-degree days in the same decade.

Now we've got 20 degrees, wind and showers. I feel cold!

I watched as much of it

as I could on TV, what with three kids running around underfoot demanding my attention, and NZS trying to make me come join them at the table for supper ("Not now, dear, I'm busy!"). I missed RA though, but I don't think I would have cared too much at that point. I did catch an interview with Hugo Weaving, and absolutely couldn't believe that same hairy man played our beloved Elrond. He looked more like a dwarf! Martin Freeman looked more like James Bond than a Hobbit, but Aidan and Dean, I thought, looked just right. :-)

So you never let Ataahua over the barrier? Pity, that would have been fun to see on TV. "Wait! Someone's jumped the barrier! She's charging over to the unsuspecting Richard Armitage! Oh my, she's grabbing his...CUT!"

Yes, that change of ten degrees from one day to the next takes a bit of adjusting to!

So good to see you too!

16 months! Wow, time is flying. I "mooed" less with my third, too. It's just all the demands on all parts of the body.

I think I can still recite most of Freight Train. I just loved that book. I always meant to embroider pillow cases with the train for the kids - but they're in their early 30s, last 20s, so it's a little too late.

And it's amazing how quickly little ones learn to disrupt older siblings. And don't expect it to end for years to come. But even now when mine pick on each other, they're always the first do defend their siblings against others.
