Andy Serkis on CBS Sunday Morning

If you missed it, the show's website has a transcript of the segment with possible video coming later (it sometimes shows up, sometimes not) and a gallery of images of Andy in movies and a little about the process of motion capture.

And they offer links to the official website for The Hobbit movies and to Andy's new studio with performance capture technology (which I wasn't aware of): The Imaginarium Studios.

Quote from the segment:
It's the performance (that Andy delivers in a motion capture role) that Andy Serkis would like to see get more respect:

"It used to annoy me that people would say, 'Oh well, you know, the voice of Gollum by Andy Serkis.' And it was like, 'Well, that's not true.' When an actor's playing a role using performance capture, they are authoring the role."

"Do you think there's going to be an Oscar category for you someday?" Mason asked.

"I don't think there should be an Oscar category for performance capture. It's acting. It's not a genre of acting, it's not a type of acting. It's acting."

Between Peter Jackson and Andy

I think there will ultimately be an Oscar category for the type of "acting" they have improved and proved to be worthy of acknowledgement. I had no idea Andy has his own studio! I wouldn't be a bit suprised if he is ultimately partnered (yet still remains independent) with Jackson the same way that Weta is. What a great collaborative world there seems to be growing from all of this!

Thank you for the heads-up and links :D

I really need these new films to take me back to, and not re-introduce me to, that magical world.

Richard Armitage had some good things to say about Andy in the part 2 interview greendragon just posted on the Home Page

If the major awards don't get on board with this soon, it will keep them artificially rooted in the past.

I think Zoe Saldana should have been noted for her work in Avatar, as well.
