Tolkien - no, Jackson - yes (in one sense only)

Jackson certainly had fun with the "pipeweed" references as we all did back in the day ("I was there, Gandalf, three thousand - well, forty-some-odd, years ago!") but Tolkien and his Hobbits were too old-fashioned and traditional to embrace a "countercultural" lifestyle. We (and I think I can say "we") liked the sense of community, of valuing "good food and merry cheer over hoarded gold", of living in closer harmony with the natural world that Tolkien espoused.
