Mt Doom heats up

Ruapehu, one of the two North Island mountains that stood in for Mt Doom in LOTR, is becoming more likely to erupt.

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

<meep>

D'you think it's getting ready to let off some Gandalf-style fireworks to celebrate the opening of 'The Hobbit'?

That would be an impressive feat by the NZ Tourism Board! :D /

Scary stuff!

Let's hope it doesn't disrupt the premiere! Laugh

On another note, and I know there are TORnFolk out there who are more clued up on the English language than I am, but that title doesn't make sense to me?

I know the "more likely" comes from the quote: "more likely over the next weeks to months'' - and in that context it makes sense. But wouldn't have read better as "Ruapehu likely to erupt"?

I hope no one is any danger!

It makes sense to me

I read the title as meaning 'more likely than usual'.
If the title said 'likely to erupt' I would think that an eruption was imminent.

I knew what they were getting at

It just doesn't sit right with me. It just needs a "than" in the sentence, and then I wouldn't be moaning. Wink

An eruption of special magnificence?

Hopefully New Zealanders won't take it as the king under the mountain returning...that's not gold flowing from Ruapehu Smile

"'Ai! ai!' wailed Legolas. 'A Balrog! A Balrog is come!'
Gimli stared with wide eyes. 'Durin's Bane!' he cried, and letting his axe fall he covered his face.
'A Balrog,' muttered Gandalf. 'Now I understand. What an evil fortune! And I am already weary.''
