What is your favorite piece of music from Middle Earth?

It just captured me the first time I read the books. I used to know it off my heart, as well. Probably not anymore. I was pleased when they decided to put one of the verses into the films. Radagast-Aiwendil Gondor Nov 16 2012, 5:53pm Views: 698 My absolute favourite bit.. Has to be the Lighting of the Beacons from the trilogy. Such a fantastic, evocative piece of music. There are also some wonderful soundtracks in the game Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO). 'All Other Lights' and 'Lone Lands' are two of my favourites. As for book songs, my favourite comes from one of the LOTR lines that I quote most frequently: "Not all who wander are lost". 'Flaming Red Hair', the song at the party, was also a good one :) And you can't go wrong with the majestic Battle of the Pelenor Fields or the sweet tune of The Shire. I've always loved 'The Road Goes Ever On', and it was interesting that the song that seemed melancholy in the book was hummed and sang by both Bilbo and Gandalf cheerfully. It really captured the imagery of the Elves sailing to the Undying Lands as well as being a metaphor of death. Very moving. I'm also fond of The Greatest Adventure from the Hobbit cartoon. As for something from the book, A Elbereth Gilthoniel is really pretty and made me fall in love with Elvish.

sherlock Gondor Dec 4 2012, 6:07pm Views: 1109 It's between Howard Shore's Breaking of the Fellowship, the Lighting of the Beacons or the part at the end of ROTK with James Galway's flute (sorry can't remember the exact name). Probably the last one because I told my granddaughter I wanted her to play that on the flute at my funeral. She was only about a year or two so I told her she should start practicing soon.
