What are some of your favorites from the soundtrack?

I don't know if this has already been posted, but I was just wondering what are some of peoples' favorite songs from the LotR soundtrack? I personally have quite a few favorites (including Concerning Hobbits, the Breaking of the Fellowship, Into the West...) and also certain parts some tracks that I love. So just out of curiosity, which tracks do you think are your "favorites"?

So many!!

They are all magnificent, the best in all films I have watched, for sure. But two that stand out are the shire theme, and the rivendell theme. Arwens theme is just beutiful. It plays when she shows the evenstar to aragorn, and I love it. Once or twice I've even listened to it to go to bed!! Look it up on YouTube, I love it.

I also like the mordor theme, which is the dead opposite, lol.

The mordor theme's actually one of my favorites too.

Haha, I really like the Mordor theme as well. :D and the Isengard theme. I also agree with you on Arwen's theme. It truly is a beautiful piece of music.

Concerning Hobbits,

The King of the Golden Hall, Smeagol's Theme, Gollum's Song, Theme for Aragorn and Arwen. Love them all.

ahhhh yes..

As nearly everyone, "Concerning Hobbits" is so recognizable and iconic. It's perfect. BUUUTT.. not one of my favorite to listen to.

I absolutely love "Hope is Kindled" (I think that's the title... the lighting of the beacons). It's so epic and grand.

I love nearly all of the Rohan themes. "The Ride of the Rohirrim" is up there as the best for me, though.

"Into the West" is a musical feast. I love it, love it, love it. It successfully brings back all the emotions I felt while sitting in the theater as the credits started to roll.

This is Impossible!

However, if I have to choose a single song it would be the Breaking of the Fellowship. Just so many emotions run through that piece

"'Ai! ai!' wailed Legolas. 'A Balrog! A Balrog is come!'
Gimli stared with wide eyes. 'Durin's Bane!' he cried, and letting his axe fall he covered his face.
'A Balrog,' muttered Gandalf. 'Now I understand. What an evil fortune! And I am already weary.''

Too many to name

But I shall list some anyway... (Some of these bits are only present on the Complete Recordings set)

The Dwarrodelf bit (In fact most of the music for Moria)
Farewell to Lorien
Breaking of the Fellowship / In Dreams
Forth Eorlingas on the TTT OST (I don't have the TTT CR yet so I don't really know the TTT score very well)
Gollum's Song
Flight From Edoras
That bit from the forging of Anduril through to Gandalf and Pippin riding up the streets of Minas Tirith
Lighting of the Beacons
Pippin's song
Charge of the Rohirrim (seriously clueless about why this was left off the OST)
Arwen's song
That whistle spurring Frodo and Sam up Mount Doom
"I Can Carry You" Grey Havens rendition
Destruction of the Ring
Elanor
Into The West
Bilbo's Song

Wow, that was a lot, eh? Blush

That's tough

There are so many. Especially when you start pulling items from the EE versions. The pure emotion from the soundtracks just make me so happy and calm that picking one is truly a difficult thing.

Without a doubt. It's absolutely stunning.

A few that I think haven't been mentioned that I like...

Flight to The Ford which starts with the the haunting voice over Arwen's otherworldly appearance to Frodo, continues with the pounding horse chase, then the triumphant horns as Arwen races across the Bruinen, turns and challenges the Black Riders, then ends with the same voice as Arwen offers Frodo "what grace has been given to me, let it pass to him."

The Bridge of Khazad-Dum (sorry for spellingBlush) It includes the wonderful Polynesian choir with their goose bump inducing chant, and ends with the sorrowful mourning of the Fellowship after the fall of Gandalf.

Lothlorien - more otherworldly elven singing, so evocative.

Also love all of the music associated with Rohan; that Norwegian violin is so stirring.

Oh, and everything else Wink

Evenstar must be the greatest soundtrack

Ever composed.Cool Which puts Shore one step ahead of Zimmer IMO.

We are more connected than ever before, more able to spread our ideas and beliefs, our anger and fears. As we exercise the right to advocate our views, and as we animate our supporters, we must all assume responsibility for our words and actions before they enter a vast echo chamber and reach those both serious and delirious, connected and unhinged.

I think Shore is many steps ahead of Zimmer ;)

Zimmer's composed some great work, but it's stuck between a lot of phoned-in material as well.

The Great River

I have too many beloved parts of the soundtrack to really pick favorites. One I haven't seen mentioned yet is the track called "The Great River" on the OST. That music ties thematically to the on-screen action so beautifully! The starting point is the healing magic of Lothlorien and blessing from Galadriel. A roll of drums marks the passage forward from sanctuary to danger. The Fellowship Theme resurfaces multiple times, in fragments, as the Fellowship strives to reconstitute itself without Gandalf. The building voices sing the Oath of Elendil as the Argonath comes into view, and then...wow! A sweeping and epic brass version of History of the Ring as the Fellowship passes beneath the image of Isildur. The rise and fall of history - of empire - is right there in musical form, as if massive ocean swells were washing over us. We, the audience, are not really given the choice of ignoring the music...it is frontal and commands us to know that the story here is not just in words and images.

I just like

all of CD 1. What I like best about it is that it basically evokes the entire film.

But best of best of all is the bit when they send out the black riders. Positively Wagnerian.

I will go there ... and back again.
