What painting style reminds you of The Hobbit?

I always thinks that Casper David is a painter who really makes me feel like I'm living in a world of mists and hobbit like environments. I know there are great illustrators of the books but what painters make you feel that middle earthiness

Bombadil Half-elven Nov 10 2012, 9:54am Views: 275 Maxfleld Parrish was illustrating many Childrens Books when Tolkien was growing. Up. Look him up online, there you will see many Rivendale looks. Liv Tyler's many Morning scenes look like they were stolen directly from Maxfield Parrish. He certainly is something of a Forgotten phenomenon. Secondly I love the Hilderbrant Brothers more than Lee&Howe but they are the one's that were hired..and I have the Utmost respect for both.

I would love to have seen Burne-Jones illustrate LotR - I can imangine his Elves looking like the maidens in the "Grail Tapestries," for example... Of course, The Hobbit was perfectly illustrated by Tolkien himself, whose own style was very much of the period Rackham was painting...in particular one can see influences of Kay Nielsen in Tolkien's pen and ink drawings.
