What scene from the book do you wish was in the Extended Editions.?

We are more connected than ever before, more able to spread our ideas and beliefs, our anger and fears. As we exercise the right to advocate our views, and as we animate our supporters, we must all assume responsibility for our words and actions before they enter a vast echo chamber and reach those both serious and delirious, connected and unhinged.

In the book the orcs pursue them on the river Anduin. They are ambushed and get into a battle.I wish this scene was included.
Also wargs and wolves attack them when they get out of Moria.

A few...

The scene in fellowship where the hobbits are sleeping and a fox looks at them before walking by (don't know why but always stayed in my memory)

Saruman's death to be like in the book (i.e. his soul looking towards the west before vanishing in the wind-really cool!)

The wargs in Moria (me thinks this will be recyled for hobbit films)

The Barrowights (again me thinks The Hobbit...)

The rangers of the north (or at the very least mentioned-I always found Arnor's history really interesting)

More of Cirdan The Shipwright, and Elrond's sons.

I would have also liked The Scouring of the Shire, Tom Bombadil, Glorfindel and the Beregond stuff to be filmed-though I wouldn't necessarily have wanted it to be in the films (pacing issues-and wouldn't really work with the tone of the films), but it would have been nice to see them as deleted scenes-to show they had at least tried.

‘As they came to the gates Cirdan the Shipwright came forth to greet them. Very tall he was, and his beard was long, and we was grey and old, save that his eyes were keen as stars; and he looked at them and bowed, and said ‘All is now ready.’

Nice speculation Malickfan

I really hope the wargs in Moria is included in the new Hobbit movie.Any evidence you might have of the Barrow Wights being included in the Hobbit? or you just thinking out loud lol.
I also would have liked to see Aragorn meeting the Dunedain Rangers(The Grey company). It is a scene from the book that i loved. It would have been good to see more of Aragorns Kin.

No evidence of the Barrow Wights as such...

But we know AUJ is over 160 minutes long-that suggests some padding between the shire and trollhills (even with the eagles and Goblin town it would be a bit action light otherwise), we also know that Sylvester Mcoy (Radagast) shot some sequences with the dwarves and Bilbo (which seems a bit strange if Radagast is tied up soley in the Dol Goldur stroyline...and I do get a definite 'Bombadil' oddness aura off Radgast) and that whole 'Dunedain tomb raiding' sequence is in the film- which smacks of an oppurtunity to sneak the barrow wights in-perhaps the barrowights are the ringwraiths not yet at full power?-aren't their spirits bound to the one ring and suaron's power?- i.e the Barrow Wights could be the Nazgul on 'power saving' mode?. I can't remember who posted it but supposedly there was a list of locations featuring in the Hobbit films, and the weather hills and Barrow Downs were both listed (though that may be my mind playing tricks on me).

I personally don't want to see them in the hobbit (it is irrelevant to the story, I'd much rather see a film closer to the book's tone than that of the LOTR film trilogy, and to me a little insulting to cut and paste Tolkien's work from book to book- I doubt he would have approved) but as this will be PJ's last oppurtunity to do Tolkien (hopefully...I DO NOT want to see the Sillmarillion adapated...but that's another story) and by his own admission he's incapable of making short films...I wouldn't be surprised to see them in it.

So there you have it...no real evidence as of yet...

wow. so many to choose from.

The ones that stand out are.
1. the whole journey from Crickhollow to Bree.
2. The Army of the Dead following Aragorn and co. (no green toilet bubbles)
3. The deadly flowers in the valley of Minas Morgul.
4. The watching statues that scream in the tower of Barad Dur.
5. Beregond and Birgil.
6. Ghan-buri-Ghan
7. Prince Imrahil and the Swan knights.
8. Glittering Caves and Gimli.
9. Time moving oddly in Caras Galadhon.

Not all of them, and not in order

- Imrahil of Dol Amroth, the various troops arriving in Gondor, and the women and children leaving.
- The dour-handed Rangers of the North
- The Hall of Fire at Rivendell and/or meeting the Elves on their way out of The Shire
- Legolas shooting the Fell Beast in the dark!

There are others, but I'll leave it at that for now.

Particularly Gimli visiting the Glittering Caves - and the promise between Legolas and Gimli that they would visit the caves and the forest together!

yes I love that part of the story

between Gimli and Legolas. It really shows their great friendship. I also would have liked legolas to have heard the seagulls. Evil I too would have liked some mention of the Rangers.

My top 5 ( not in order)

  • The Grey Company and the Dead following
  • The Barrow Wights
  • The Scouring of the Shire
  • The Fields of Cormallen (way better than the waking up and laughing in Rivendell scene)
  • Merry and Pippin strutting their tall selves around the Shire in full Rohan and Gondor Regalia

From "The Steward and the King"

Then Aragorn cried: Ye! utuvienyes! I have found it!..
Lo! here is the scion of the Eldest of trees...

...then Aragorn laid his hand gently to the sapling, and lo! It seemed to hold only lightly to the earth, and it was removed without hurt; and Aragorn. Bore it back to the Citadel.....

Aragorn planted a new tree in the court by the fountain and swiftly and gladly it began to grow; and when the month of June entered in it was laden with blossom....

Not really a scene

But I've always loved the image of Gandalf, Galadriel, Elrond, and Celeborn sitting still as statues but communicating with their thoughts. It's in one of the last few chapters of ROTK.

Of course, I think the prose is the best part of it, and could never be satisfactorily transposed to screen, but I love it nonetheless.

The meeting with Gildor Inglorien and the elves...

...on the way to Crickhollow. This is the moment in the book where the magic really begins for me - the ticket to Middle-earth, as it were.

There is something very moving to me about the idea of elves walking and singing beneath the stars, either remaining hidden or meeting up with "Elf-friends."

The EE scene of Frodo and Sam getting a glimpse of an aloof troupe of radioactive elves on the way to the Havens, with its ham-fisted dialogue, just doesn't cut it for me.

New scenes for the EE.

Well, theres a couple of scenes that would've been interesting to see in the EE that wasn't in the TE. But of course some addition wasn't really possible since this was then a major change to the film both in timeframe and in pace.

To name 4 scenes that I can think right now from the book:

1. The House of Tom Bombadil right up till the Barrow-Wrights moment.

2. The Radagast moment with Gandalf. It would've been realistic to add such scenes to FOTR since it might have been of relatively low cost shooting it and about 2 minutes additions to the film...

3. The Drůedain scene with the Rohirim before reachign the Pelenor field. This could've been a great addition in the trilogy to see a new and ancient people of Middle-Earth.

4. The least realistic: The Scouring Of The Shire. I had to mention it though it is more than unlikely that such a scenes as add 30 minutes to the film might get a place to an EE. Without mentionning the issue with the death of Saruman. It would have taken a reediting of the entire trilogy to make that happen.

The conspiracy and Strider

I wish they included in the Fellowship of the Ring the part where Merry, Pippin, Sam, and another hobbit form a conspiracy to find out what Frodo was up to after Bilbo left and to help him out. Also, I wish they had the part where the hobbits receive a letter from Gandalf at the Prancing Pony explaining who Strider is, because in the movie the hobbits seemingly had no reason to trust Strider and ended up just following him.

A Conspiracy Unmasked

I had forgotten this one, you're right this chapter would have been a great addition but it is enterely missing in the film. Which bring me to how Merry and Pippin and pictured instead in FOTR, as young rascals that steal vegetables...With A Conspiracy Unmasked we see the cleverness and ingeniosity of the two characters of how they had set up Frodo with the help Sam Gamgee and knew all along about the Ring...
