involves simplifying what you want from people. I never do anything simply. Not that I have a disdain for simple. I have great admiration for it (haiku is my favorite type of poetry, for example). It's just that I can't do simple. Every time I think of something I want to 'poll' people on, I can't distill the possible answers down to fewer than a dozen or so and, even then, I'm setting a sort of parameter about what I want from people. What I most want from people are the things I haven't thought of or considered. If I funnel the approach down one avenue, people are most likely to follow that path rather than challenging it and striking off on one that suits them better. This probably explains why I either feel that a poll hasn't given me any answer I can vote on or I have to chose 'other'. It also explains why I submitted an entry into the "Show Your Hobbit Pride" competition that didn't fit into the rules at all. I didn't feel the rules allowed me to participate (because they were, imo, too limited) so I ignored them. That worked out for me, though. :-)
