Hello...I'm New Here and saying Hello!

Hello all,

This if my very first posting here and I just want to introduce myself and say hello to one and all...

I suppose it is my irresistable thirst for the first of the Hobbit movies to open shortly that brought me on my roundabout journey here.

I am a slightly pudgy adult male with a lot a years behind me already but game for some Tolkien talk and musings, nonetheless. I work for Uncle Sam and have been a Fed now for 22 years...Its been a long and often twisted journey but heck I've gotten through it so one needn't complain or raise a fuss, I reckon.

I'm struck by the excellent set up this site has and by the intelligent and thoughtful posts that you all exchange here! I've been to some other similarly themed sites and it seems like they always end up being too argumentative, confrontational, or ortherwise nitpicky and petty to stay at them for long.

By the way, if any of you saw the Brubaker movie starring Robert Redford, my friends nicknamed me Brubaker after we saw it together 'cause they say I always stand up for what I believe in like the character Brubaker who stands up for prisoners rights in the movie, whether its an easy struggle or a long and difficult process. That made me feel good when they told me that.

So, I'm excited about participating here and discussing the world of JRR.

Regards,

Brubaker

*raises hand* Excuse me sir,

what is a Fed?

Welcome to TORN Brubaker! It's nice to see another Tolkien fan delurking. :)

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

Fed (what is a fed?)

A nickname for an employee of the U.S. federal government, sometimes applied to agents of the FBI, ATF, NSA, Homeland Security, etc.

Howdy and Welcome Brubaker!!

Ahhhhh... to be recognized as someone who has strong beliefs and stands by them is always a good thing! That's so cool :) Yeah... that's a great flick!

I'm so glad you found your way here in time to really enjoy the fun as we inch closer and closer to The Hobbit films!! I can't believe we're almost there!

I've been a part of the TORn community for 10 years and have seen many winters as well ;) I have to say I've had more fun on this side of my life than all the years before.... and it's 90% because of this place and the incredible people here. It really is a community filled with a mixture of personalities that really keeps us hopping; but we all have fun sharing what has brought us all here... the love of Tolkien and the joy he's brought to our lives. For me, that includes Peter Jackson and his storytelling through his films :)

Cheers! It's great to have you here!!

I really need these new films to take me back to, and not re-introduce me to, that magical world.

Welcome!

Interesting to hear that your nickname came from a movie character. Although the first thing I thought of when I saw your screen name was the hero in the movie "Capricorn One". Haven't seen the Redford film yet.

There was a man.
There was a lady.
There was a Dragon Lord.
