Come on in - it's Fiesta time (and time for a special debut)

Greetings everyone, and welcome to another fun Fiesta Friday!!

It actually got cold-ish here this week - in fact I could clearly see my breath this a.m. walking into to work (as opposed to when you *think* you see your breath and huff and puff trying to see if you really do - or is that just meBlush?)

Yesterday, we had a very special debut on the Home Page and the Hobbit Movie board. A TORn Hobbit magazine (see below)!!!! As I said on the Hobbit board, we were contacted by a company that specializes in 'special interest magazines for fanatical fanbases' (not that that resembles any of *us* Angelic), and TORn staff contributed the content and most of the pictures. It should be available pretty much now wherever magazines are sold. I think for now it's only in the U.S., but if there are extra copies, TORn might arrange to make them available by mail. But if they go fast, best to get a nice TORnsib to snag one for you!

(edited to add: so far, this is a one-off thing. However, if this one sells well, there could be more in the future)!

Anyway, let us know how you like it. Yours truly has a few articles in it, which I hope you like!

*throws quarters on the juke box* customer choice of music today - so spin your favorite tune

(this will also be a self-serve bar as I have multiple deadlines to meet by 5:00). Shocked

Happy, fun weekend, everyone!

That looks great

and well worth keeping, if possible. I will look for it up here, but it probably isn't available. Pretty please, Altaira, save one for me and I'll reimburse you the postage next time I see you -- wink, wink.

I missed last week, when I was crazy busy getting ready for our Thanksgiving, after having a great visit with my brother and niece from Massachusetts. The four of us (siblings) got together to discuss our Mum's estate etc. and while we agreed on some things, there were other problems as well. I was surprised there was still so much "stuff" since Mum had been in assisted, intermediate and long term care for several years. My sister is the executrix, but she seems to think that because she has the legal responsibility she has to do it all without our help. She is also big into geneology, whereby every little scrap of paper may turn out to valuable to some future generation.

Thanksgiving dinner was a success, just family, including my elder son who has been avoiding me for almost a year, because I will still talk to his ex-wife, whom I love dearly. Hopefully now he has a new girlfriend and a busy life he's getting over that. And the next day I came down with a bad cold. Well, you can't have everything, I guess.

And today we got rain, for the first time since the middle of July. Sad to see the sunshine go, but we really needed the rain.

So that's what's been going on my world for now.

Just tea, please Altaira.

Isn't that awesome?

Geeky Son is heading to Target later, he's going to see if they have any... I wish the Barnes & Noble was closer to me, but in this state they're all over on the other side of The River, except for the one that's an hour's drive away from here, in Buckland. (Seriously! It's at the Buckland Hills Mall!)

Whoop, you're all famous, now! Cool

I'll just have a mug of coffee, please, Altaira. It's a cool rainy day here!

Hey there, Evey!

Any plans for the weekend?

I need to finish up the Fall Cleaning I started last weekend - there's still some cobwebs hanging around. (Hey, maybe I should hold off until after Halloween! Laugh)

You never know

about those scraps of paper - imagine what we'd be missing, if Tolkien had tossed all his! Sounds like some kind of organization is in order, though. We've got our genealogy "scraps" in file folders, labelled by family. Good luck with the rest of the estate stuff, it took my brother and me, as out-of-state executors of our Mass. mom's estate, two years to finalize things.

And there's nothing at all wrong with keeping your ex-daughter-in-law "in the family". We still consider my older brother's ex-wife and her husband to be part of our family (because he was an idiot when he divorced her!).

It's tea on the treadmill for me

That is to say, I'm drinking tea while walking on the treadmill and typing; I haven't spilled a beverage on a piece of exercise equipment (today Tongue).

Wow, it's been a while since I've been here on a Friday morning. Between my kids' stuff and mine, I haven't had many spare moments for TORn lately. sadly. But the Walk to Rivendell keeps me checking in at least once a week, thankfully!

Lately, I've been using my degrees in religion and vocal performance to help lead a new worship service at our church. It's a very hands-on thing, where we try to have people really experiencing and contributing to the worship, rather than doing a lot of watching and listening. I've also been doing some writing and revising as I screw up my courage to send a manuscript or two out in search of publication, and I'm thinking about applying for a teaching position, when I'm not disparaging my lack of formal experience in the field. And I'm still leading Girl Scouts, though they're older now, so soon they'll be the ones leading! Still no income, but I'm building up some volunteer work that may move me in that direction, as soon as I get over my doubts about volunteer work counting as real experience!

I'm off in a moment to shop...

for groceries and a magazine!

I thought about picking up extras just in case other folks wanted a copy but at $8 a pop, I don't know I can make that investment.

I will say, the good news for our household of unemployed, underemployed, and unpaid workers.

Son #1 go a full time job! His contract for hire is printing out on my printer as we speak.

And the company my husband is part owner of sold its first (industrial) machine in a year. So tonight we are going out to eat. It's across the street from a Barnes and Noble in the Mall of America so if I don't find a copy of the Hobbit magazine today, I'll stop by that store. I hate that all the B&N near me are in malls where I must park in huge ramps and walk a mile to get to.

In the backyard, we spotted our first cedar waxwing... a juvenile. I am familiar with the birds but I'm not entirely sure if I've seen them before. This is certainly the first one in our backyard. This spring we had a spotted towhee for the first time ever (and the first one I've ever seen). So I think word is going out that we have lots of cover, a few seeds, water in the birdbath, and no cats. At least ones we own.

Daniel, I'm making Michigan Senate Bean Soup this weekend. Stop by if you want some... lol.

This is great news!

Thanks for pulling this together TORn. I would love to get my hands on a copy (and any future editions). If I smile nicely would anyone kindly send me one? I will of course pay for P&P and the price of the magazine (and a drink of your choice)!

Have a great weekend everyone! Smile

That looks like a lot of fun!

Could somebody please get me a copy. I think there is a picture of my LOTR-cross stitch in it (since I handed in a picture of it for a secret project).

It is getting colder here as well, had some ice on the car windows the other day. But today it was autumn again, just a lot of rain.

Last weekend it was RingCon in Bonn, Germany. And it was amazing!! Points to new profile picture, could it get any better for Rosie??

Now going to enjoy my weekend. It has been a very busy week so I think I'm just going to relax this weekend.

*sings* Stormy weather...

Gotta love spring. Who needs the blossoms to stay on the trees anyway? I hope the weather is good in your part of the world!

Ha! Here, it's leaves

We had a storm front come through about a week ago and I thought for sure it would take most of the leaves off of most of the trees, but they must not be quite ready to budge yet (except to build up in that space between the windshield wipers and the vents, where the wind can't quite get to).

It's nice that you have blossoms there now. I hope it doesn't spoil it too much for some delicious late summer fruit.

*geek-o-meter spikes* How cool is this!?

Howday Altaira and all!

This just makes me wanna jump up and dance!! Woohoo!!!

I'm glad to hear it may be available in places besides Barnes & Noble and Wal-Mart cuz I can't WAIT to get my hands on this! I know that in my area, if they've been put on the shelves, they're disappeared! Gone! Eaten whole! Which is a good thing... I guess ;)

I'm so proud of TORN's status and achievements. I just sit here and shake my head in awe. *applause*

BUT my hunt is going to have to wait until late Saturday. I've got one of my all-day test administrations and will be a bit busy :)

I hope everyone has a fantatic weekend... And I think I'll take a hot chocolate with me as a beddy-bye treat.

Cheers to TORN's participation in this Magazine... a rather wonderful thing!

Man-o-Man....

My Friday night is barely half way done and I'm exhausted. I'm at work of course on a Friday night, I'll be here until the St. Louis Cardinals vs. Washington Nationals game is over (I work in sports television). But its been a busy night already. Canada's national men's team played Cuba tonight in World Cup Qualifying (USA narrowly defeated Antigua in their match tonight). Canada ended up winning 3-0, but the story was that Cuba only had 11 players! Which meant they had no substitutions to put on the field when players got tired or injured. There are two stories here, Cuba sent 16 players...but only 11 made it to the soccer pitch. One story says 5 players defected to the U.S.A. earlier today. The other story says those 5 players were detained at the border because of passport issues etc. Either way, its a win for Canada and the team is one step closer to its first World Cup birth since 1986 (which is Canada's only appearance in the Men's World Cup so far). Anyway, its a really, really busy night in sports -- even with the NHL players being locked out by the team owners. I am just watching as many games as I can to help pass the time. We are getting up early and heading to the cottage Saturday to close it down for the winter....I always hate doing that, the place is such an escape for me. Alright, enough babbling and I think I should probably get back to watching sports. Have a good weekend everyone...here's to being another day closer to the Hobbit. Guinness for me all around, maybe a black russian chaser or two. And if the jukebox has it, I would love to hear some RUSH - old RUSH please, I am going to their concert on Tuesday in Toronto...can't wait!

What's the matter, James? No glib remark? No pithy comeback?"

I'm watching the local news tonight and feeling so sad.

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/10/12/jessica-ridgeway-is-dead-colorado-kidnapping-ends-in-tragedy.html.

My daughter called me and wants me to come to her house tomorrow for a visit because she's feeling so sad too.

I'll have to see if I can find the magazine to cheer us up a little bit.

I can't even process this. Unbearable.

One wishes it was possible to help the family, but it's beyond help I think when it's something like this. I hope they have many, many close friends and family members who will understand and be there for them long term.
