Goblin King Lego set

Hi again! I just noticed in TORNīs facebook page that the set of the Goblin King provideed by Lego appears something that striked me:

There are three small goblins and one of them is carriyng not weapon but some sort of a map, could this mean that dwarves get spoiled and that the map remains in Goblin town after they leave (like Frodoīs chainmail in Cirith Ungol) and then Bolg or someone who arrives there picks up the map and knows about Thorinīs quest???

Sorry if this has been discussed before

Could be!

Good spot. I can't tell if it is there map, or something else. But I imagine the Goblins will want to know exactly what they're up to!

Lego is awesome.

Yes, it is. I loved it, the kids love it. I'm just generally not that much into movie merchandise like action figures and lego sets etc., that's all. To me, it's milking the cash cow for all it's worth.

But I'm not entirely immune to merchandise... Give me a Hobbit/LOTR mug or a poster or something, and I'll happily spend my money on it. Wink

I would rather have lego than a mug

But I will probably only buy the Bag End set.

But if people will buy stuff, I see no reason not to make it. There is nothing wrong with wanting to make money.

I'll buy the other stuff, then.

Of course you're right. People will buy it, and they should. Everyone to their liking. Wink Action figures and lego sets are of course great for kids (and for some adults as well Wink. ) I'd probably buy some for my kids, if they asked me to. Maybe the reason I don't really like them is because they don't really look like the characters.

Myself, I'll stick to the mugs, posters, books etc. Wink

LEGO'd out!

I think Warner Bros. made a mistake here. They've only just brought out LEGO LOTR, even though it was 10 years ago.

I think they should have waited until after the trilogy to release LEGO TH. Yes, they'll still make plenty of money, but people are going to be LEGO'd out.

yes, I don't know when and if I'm buying all the Lego stuff

as a kid, I had lots of Lego, but I missed the time where I played much with it..
But this LOTR Lego stuff is pretty cool, also the video game, as it's seems.
My problem is that I don't really know where I would put all the Lego stuff after I built it all together :D

The map is in Bag End in FOTR

So unless the map is stolen and then recovered again somehow, it's unlikely that this will be the case. Although it is possible that when the company is captured, the map is briefly confiscated by the goblins, then quickly recovered by Gandalf during the escape. I can just imagine him handing it to Bilbo afterwards "Do not let the burgler become the burgled so easily". Great speculation though. That would certainly be a good way to connect the goblins and the quest.

They didn't have the rights to produce LotR lego 10 years ago

At that time, Lego had only just started producing movie tie-in stuff, Lego Star Wars started in 1999.

The assumption is, The Hobbit movies will reignite interest in LotR, and hence is the best time to release LotR lego (without the use of a time machine).

Lego is meant to be impressionistic

and keep unique pieces to a minimum.

It makes it more flexible for use making other things/characters.

They are really out-doing themselves!

I think I enjoy their videos more than the actual items... although I do have the Gandalf/Frodo/Cart, Frodo & his book, and Sam/Frodo/Shelob kits. They're so expensive, I don't think I'll be doing much more... but they really are very well done and diverse!

I really need these new films to take me back to, and not re-introduce me to, that magical world.

Weren't there some LotR Lego sets that weren't released in the U.S.?

I could have sworn that Lego released some LotR sets that never made it to the U.S.; I seem to remember sets for Bree and Bag End. But, maybe those were just fan-creations?

Not according the Lego fan sites

And I'm sure they know as much about Lego as people here know about Tolkien.

I'm still thinking that fan-made creations are most likely.

According to the video on the Lego site

The small goblin is a court scribe, and the printed tile appears to be what he is writing on.

But there is also a shot of Ori (I think) fighting a goblin for it.

It is hard to make it out, but there is a tile representing Thorin's map in the Bag End set, and it is different to the tile in this set.

It's possible there are two tiles: one represents Ori's book, and the other the scribe's notebook.
