Got my tickets to An Unexpected Journey 2D!

I have now been freezing in queue for several days and have gotten to know many nerds in my hometown!
My seats are in the middle of the theater, so I am really happy with it!

I also have additional info!
I am not promising you that the film is three hours, but there was this famous movie guy in my hometown (don't remember his name), who had been invited to see the rough cut of the film in the theater where I was standing in queue. He was inside the theater for a little bit over three hours, so I like to imagine that we will get a close to three hour film!

Anyway, I am looking forward to watch the film 12/12/12, 12:12 am Norwegian time!

I don't even know when the film is releasing here in India. I've emailed Warner Bros. India but haven't received a reply from their end yet... Grrr!

I was number 15 so I was one of the first ones to get there! Now I can just sit back and relax for two months and enjoy the film when it's released :D

Do they sell tickets just for the premiere or other shows as well?

Haven't bought my Wednesday midnight premiere tickets because friends want to watch it on the Friday Frown

I'm very tempted to just go by myself to the midnight premiere then again with my friends on the Friday...

About three hours and 10 min. But that usually includes all the commercials, so it will have more or less the same running length as the fotr theater version. aprox 3 hours.

So this is apparently confirmed by Warner Bros.

So they are leaving at least 3 hours 30 minutes between shows (including commercials)

Probably they are just estimating, leaving a long enough gap between shows, to be prepared in the event it's 3 hours long. Sorry, i'll believe 3 hours (or close to) when i see it officially confirmed. Wink

It's likely that WB has given them an estimated length.

2 hours and 44 minutes sounds very specific, so as you said if there are any changes it's probably just going to be a few minutes.

I agree, but I still think that it can change

Based on the information found by Daniel and Magpie and others in response to my thread about when we are likely to know the length, it is not likely to be set in stone until it is finalized. Still, I can't imagine that will change very much.

There's a couple options

If one is set on being there at the midnight showing or whenever it first plays - well then you (or a really reliable friend/family member) get to the theater super early and make (or start) a line. If you're there early enough you just ask the theater where they want to start one - or if you're lucky they're organized and have some things roped out - I remember they did this for the Star Wars Prequels. The closer you are to the front of the line, the easier it is to get good seats since you get in before the others do. Then you have a couple people "hold seats" if there's a group of ya and the others go and get the goodies.

Or, if you're not set on going to the first showings, just slip in on a weekday early a couple days after the movie has been out. The lines aren't as long, usually.

So is there no 48fps screenings in Norway?

No one seems to have mentioned the availability of 48fps. I would think that if the cinemas had it available one would be able to either buy a ticket for a 24 or 48fps screening. Does this mean that people in Norway won't see the film in 48fps or are the cinemas themselves not quite sure if they will show it yet?

I live in Denmark, and I am VERY concerned that we will have too few (or none at all) cinemas to show the Hobbit in 48fps.

No dumb questions

4K, 2K, 5K, etc., are rough expressions of display and camera resolutions. They are an approximate count of the number of pixels the device can render along the long edge of its image rectangle. Thus, 4K resolution is approximately 4,000 pixels wide. 2K (which accounts for most of the digital projectors we're used to seeing in theaters) has about half that number of pixels along the same edge, so the image projected has half the detail. The RED cameras that Jackson shot with are capable of 5K capture resolution, but there currently aren't any commercial projectors (that I'm aware of) that will display that resolution.

A chart of the newer 4K projectors and displays now commonly available can be found in the Wikipedia article on 4K resolution.

Man is but an ass if he go about to expound this dream.

So if we see The Hobbit in a large chain cinema

Is it more than likely the film will be at 4K resolution? I've emailed my local cinema for details on whether they will be showing it at 48fps and 4K but they haven't got back to me.

To be honest

I'm not entirely sure how likely it is that your local chain will have installed a 4K projector; I haven't been following the industry statistics at all. I would guess it depends on the population in your area and whether the chain owners feel that the specific venue draws (or will draw) enough audience to justify the expense.

On the whole, my best guess is that 2K are still far more common than 4K, but that it will be fast changing. Hopefully your theater will respond saying they've just installed a shiny new one.

Man is but an ass if he go about to expound this dream.

Wow, watching the whole trilogy after AUJ :P

I suppose I am going to do that when I get home (unless I am so disappointed that I just cry myself to sleep)

My Top 5 Wish List for "The Hobbit"
5. Legolas will surf down Smaug's neck
4. Bilbo will be revealed to a Robot
3. Naked PJ cameo as Ghan-Buri-Ghan
2. Use of not only 3D, but smell-o-vision, plus the inclusion of axes coming out of the seats and poking the audience when appropriate
1. Not only keep the claim that Thorin & Co. ran amok in Mirkwood "molesting people", but depict said incident in vivid detail!!!!!

So it's somewhere between 2:40 to 3 hours?

Seems like those are the running times being thrown around at this point.

There's usually 10 minutes of commercials/trailers before movies here in Norway

So that narrows it down to between 2:40 and 2:50 Wink
