New Yazneg information

Warning, *Spoilers* within.

A lego poster has been released showing six new Hobbit sets.

Yazneg appears to be riding the albino warg in the Out of the Frying Pan scene.

http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=69506&st=6975#entry1408331

Sorry if this is old news!

Other interesting things ....

- The Mirkwood elves are drinking
- But the key is hung from the wall, and not on the guard
- The Dwarves appear to be in the same dungeon, in the same cellar, rather than separate across Thranduil's Halls
- Blue flames in the trees, and some goblin "contraptions" on the ground
- No lids and the barrels, and they seem to be rolled in

Thanks for posting this!

Could that be Azog?

He looks to sport a different outfit and weapon than Yazneg, and could well be a Lego version of a "pale" Orc ALA Bolg! Supposedly, Azog rides an albino "she wolf" into battle.

I suppose it could be Yazneg, however...can't really tell from the video/pic.

But it seems that the Necromancer's forces will be amongst the attacking characters in Out of the Frying Pan...not sure what happens here...perhaps at least one the Goblins is loyal to Azog, and sends word when the Dwarves are captured crossing the mountains? Still, they'd have to get to the vicinity of Goblin-town pretty quickly from Dol Guldur. What, is the Necromancer sent a message via courier-bat? Tongue

My Top 5 Wish List for "The Hobbit"

4. Bilbo will be revealed to a Robot
3. Naked PJ cameo as Ghan-Buri-Ghan
2. Use of not only 3D, but smell-o-vision, plus the inclusion of axes coming out of the seats and poking the audience when appropriate
1. Not only keep the claim that Thorin & Co. ran amok in Mirkwood "molesting people", but depict said incident in vivid detail!!!!!

It does?

It seems like people on the LEGO site are assuming that it's Yazneg, but I looked at the videos/pics and didn't see the figure clearly labelled anywhere (it is on the poster, but the name isn't visible on the video).

EDIT: I had seen the listing above, but it's prefaced with this statement: "So, it appears the sets have these minifigures", making it appear to be an educated guess based on the video in question. Wink

Hmmm...possibly.

Doesn't really look like Yazneg IMO, while say, Thorin and Bifur look like Thorin and Bifur there.

Yazneg has a brown/grey outfit seemingly made of skin and bone, protruding scaled armor, and a unique scythe or something. The LEGO figure has a black outfit, a large neck piece and a bone axe. Granted, they are both bald however. Tongue

And I think we're forgetting that is is *only* a LEGO mini-figure ... it's never going to look exactly like the film character. Wink Dwarves are quite easy to replicate into LEGO characters.

Having expanded it to full screen...

The figure appears to be bare-chested ALA Yazneg...I tried to get the name from the poster, but it was illegible (thought it DOES appear to start with a "Y"). So yeah, leaning now towards it being a very shoddy adaptation of Yazneg.

Kind-of crappy that they've just recycled the Moria Orcs from LotR rather than doing proper Misty Mountain Goblins seen in TH for the set.

There are new goblin designs in the Great Goblin set :)

One thing I've noticed, the elf in the barrel set is not Tauriel. I thought she was chief of the woodland guard. Have I got this wrong, or could this be a different/generic elf character?

nice find

but some of this really worries me.

I'm pretty sure the guy on the warg is Yazneg, but what the hell is he supposed to do in the warg scene, he should be in Dol Guldur if we go after the description. Also: Does this mean that there will be other Dol Guldur forces in that scene? Looks like, after all there are also regular orcs in that set, not ones with the new design of the misty mountains Mad

But what is even worse: Legolas and Tauriel in the Spiders sceneCrazy
I may be reading a bit too much into that, but if they're really the ones to rescue the dwarves or even only help bilbo, instead of Bilbo doing it alone(which is one of the most important and most character developing moments of Bilbo) it would mess it all up completely

meh ... Unsure

Quite often the sets are based on a scene

But might have different characters to those that appear in the scene, or based of a preliminary story/image which can change.

However, Legolas and Tauriel have have character discriptions saying they follow their hearts and have to chose between what they think is right and Thranduil's wishes. Perhaps it could be in relation to rescuing the dwarves.

I think you're confusing Yazneg with Bolg

There has been no description of Yazneg.

As for the Elves in Mirkwood, I still think we Bilbo will save the Dwarves, but then the Elves turn up and get rid of the rest of the spiders. Bilbo's story arc is about saving the Dwarves, and them learning to trust him. They can't remove a section out of his arc. Especially as the Dwarves start trusting Bilbo a lot more after Mirkwood.

Supposedly the Elves do indeed

rescue the Dwarves from the Spiders (or they fight the Spiders together).

This was mentioned in the 2013 annual book and somewhere else I believe (the Comic-Con 2012 reports)?

We'll have to see how it plays out...it could either work rather well as a heroic introduction to the Wood Elves who promptly turn out to be antagonistic toward the Dwarves (reversing the audience's expectations)...or it could plain stink and come off like bad fan-fic.

Likely

There will probably will be a connection between Dol Guldur and Goblin Town - Yazneg serves that purpose. Perhaps he goes on to Dol Guldur after the attack, assuming he isn't killed.

Since he his more man than anything else, I guess he is a deformed/tortured/mutant Mirkwood woodman. Though he could easily be an Easterling. Hey, he might even be the Mouth of Sauron. Unimpressed

Azog and Fimbul come from Dol Guldur and ride Wargs...

This seems possible to me. Perhaps both the Misty Mountain Goblins and Dol Guldur Orcs are present for Out of the Frying Pan...? However, it IS quite a distance for the Necro's Orcs to travel in a short span of time...unless they're already in the area?

Possible scenario: The Necro is made aware that Gandalf and a Company of Dwarves are passing through the Misty Mountains...he orders the Goblin King to capture them, and sends some Orcs from Dol Guldur to pick them up? After Thorin & Co. escape, they flee from the Goblins, only to run right into Azog's Orcs?

A lego man wearing purple in Goblin town (possible spoilers)

Is being held by the goblin king. He is no dwarf, for his legs are normal sized, whereas the dwarf legs are smaller. My prediction, (and it's kind of gross) is that the goblin king will, as the company is approaching him...eat this poor man whole...I'm serious.

After all in the books the Great Goblin was about to eat Thorin before Gandalf killed him wasn't he? This is going to be a completely horrific scene if it turns out to be true, but all grossness aside, where did this man come from? How did he come to the Great Goblin? "There are no travelers in this land" to quote Faramir. A captive of one of the goblins' recent raids on the men? That would be my bet.

But hold on

Yazneg isn't associated with anything. Azog and Fimbul aren't associated with Dol Guldur other than Azog's son works there and Gandalf wants to figure out the connection between Azog and DG.

Have I missed the step where Yazneg being in Out of the Fire implies forces from Dol Guldur there?

It might be just that but I'm not sure we can leap to that conclusion.

What if there are two races of wargs...

...to justify why there is a third type in The Two Towers

Fimbul's warg looks very different from the other ones we've seen. I would like it if this were the case because the goblin-allied wargs need to be more independent (especially if they have their own language) than Dol Guldur bred wargs, who are ridden.

The connection between Azog and Dol Guldur/Bolg working there

seems to imply that Azog works for Sauron as well (in addition to the speculation that he's been...necromanced). Fimbul is Azog's "master hunter", and Yazneg looks much more likely to be on the Necromancer's minions (ala Bolg and Fimbul, all three wearing armor made of bodily remains), than a Misty Mountain Goblin which have totally difference outfits, basically comprised of loincloths and straps over the upper torso. Hence, the working assumption (which I THINK is pretty widely-spread at this point) that Azog, Bolg, Fimbul, and Yazneg are all minions of Sauron and/or are based out of Dol Guldur.

Yes, obviously it is speculation, but it fits and we don't have anything else concerning these characters thus far.

Hmmm I think there is a leap in there.

There is a reasonably strong reading of the text that the Misty Mountain Orcs (as a broader group than just the Goblin King's goblins) were under the influence of Sauron. But I think the idea that Azog (and Fimbul) were based out of Dol Guldur is currently a bit of guesswork - they could just as easily be based out of Mt Gundabad etc. (whilst still, ultimately, having a connection to Sauron).

I would actually read the character description as potentially against an ostensible connection in the first instance:

"It was said that Azog the Desecrator fell many years ago in the great battle between the Orcs and the Dwarves. But now he appears again at the top of a deadly horde of killer orcs. For Gandalf begins a race against time because he has to figure out the connection between the most dangerous orc commander and the growing evil, which takes shape in the ruins of the fortress of Dol Guldur."

If Azog and or Azog's forces are living at Dol Gudur and serving The Necromancer - what would Gandalf have to work out?

English description

Just a note that all the German translations of the character descriptions have been nearly the same for all the toys revealed so far, which means the really odd ones like Azog are also probably accurate.

This is the Fimbul description from the figure box:

"One of Azog's master hunters, Fimbul is a particularly vicious Orc. Leader of the pack of Warg riders who hunt down their victims astride giant wolf-beasts Fimbul has picked up the scent of the Company of Thorin Oakenshield and is intent on tracking down the Dwarves before they can reach the Lonely Mountain."

All we have is guesswork and speculation right now, but to simplify what we're discussing

It seems likely Yazneg will not hail from the Misty Mountains, thus, Yazneg's presence at Out of the Frying Pan would suggest Dol Guldur/the Necromancer's forces playing into the plot at this point.

Could be but who knows?

Yazneg might hail from Dol Guldur and be with troops. He might be a sole emissary from DG there on his own. He could be from Mt Gundabad. He could be Azog's spirit in another body. He might look much more ordinary prior to a confrontation with Gandalf's pyro-technics. He might be one of Sauron's servants who has been searching the Gladden Fields for the ring. There are an awful lot of options.

The other intriguing element is from the Wargs' character descriptions.

WARGS
The huge, fierce, wolf-like monsters are among the most fearsome predators in whole Middle-earth. The Orcs breed the Wargs to hunt in packs and to ride on their backs into battle. The most dangerous of these beings is the White Warg, a giant she-wolf, which the huge pale orc Azog the Desecrator is riding.

So more than one White Warg, Yazneg dies and Azog takes his wolf, Azog somehow is Yazneg or this is just the same as the mounted Nazgul in the Lego Weathertop set?

Yes, intriguing ideas as to how this is going to pan out...

Azog's spirirt placed into another vessel seems possible...hence why John Rawls was at first cast as Azog and Manu Bennett's performance seems to be (at least partially) motion capture? So, Bennett for Azog in flashback and as a disembodied spirit, John Rawls as the host for Azog's spirit (Yazneg)? It could work if PJ went down this road...though it does seem as if they refer to Azog as a distinct entity having "returned" as a huge pale Orc riding a White Warg (presumably not in flashback) and not as "Yazneg" here.

IMO, it's quite possible we won't see Yazneg riding the albino Warg (as depicted here) unless he is in fact host to Azog in some form.

Is it possible that WB or Lego have served an injunction?

After all, two of the sets depict events which are now in the second film. They may be due to be removed from sale until next year, and all the publicity materials reprinted.

I'm surprised that no one has commented on Legolas and Taurel rescuing Fili and Kili from the spiders yet (unless it's in another thread that I haven't looked at yet).

Why would he change his name?

Can't he just call himself Azog again?

lego video

That video is brilliant toy marketing. A little suspicious that the child knew about Tauriel.

What about is Saruman who tells Sauron about the dwarves?

This could be the beginig of his treason...

I can not guarantee his safety - understood...
Nor will I be responsible for his fate - Doh!

Saruman isn't an outright baddie by this time

He needs to be shown to be good (or at least partly good), for his treachery in FOTR to make any sense. There would also be a whole load of other ramifications if Saruman and Sauron were on speaking terms during this time.

Smile

This bit of news was inside of the EW magazine

That the elves would help rescue the dwarves. I'm hoping that Bilbo rescues them first, and as they're escaping the spiders start to come back and surround them until the elves come in to save the day...and then capture them...

He should be a different kind of bad

He is, according to the Appendices, corrupted in the sense that he wants the ring for himself and is searching for it, kind of like Boromir or Gollum. But then in LOTR he becomes an actual servant of Sauron and goes from bad to worse.

I don't think there is a huge mystery about Yazneg

In the book, the wargs are a separate (but allied) force to the goblins. They pick up the Dwarves trail whilst out raiding, and communicate that info to the goblins.

I expect the movie will be very similar, apart from some of the wargs will have riders, led by Yazneg. Where they originated from will not be revealed until later, when Yazneg will report to (reanimated) Azog at Dol Guldur. Azog is furious that Thorin Oakenshield escaped and kills Yazneg, steeling his white warg in order to pursue Thorin.

Thus, Azog (with a substantial force of warg-riders) is already on his way to the Lonely Mountain after Thorin when the White Council attack Dol Guldur.

Which is fine by me

They can show Saruman becoming intrigued by the Ring, but shouldn't have a Sauron-Saruman tea party.

I think

That you're all reading too much into some Lego sets. These are the same people who put Iron Man into 'Loki's Cosmic Cube Escape'.

I'm still sticking to my original theory

That both Azog and Bolg are incarnations of the evil spirit Yazneg.

The Lego "Yazneg" matches the Bridge Direct description of the returned Azog riding a huge white warg. It also appears to me that the Lego figure has an attached beard similar to Bolg's. The photos the two figurines of Yazneg show him with two flayed, bearded faces attached to his belt (which I think may be Thror's and Thrain's.) I am guessing he wears these when he incarnates as the orc leaders.

Man is but an ass if he go about to expound this dream.

It sounded like a teen rather than a child, but what is really suspicious is that, while

he knew Tauriel's name, he didn't know the names of half the dwarves. If genuine, that is awful. lol

He might know all the Dwarves names

But they LEGO pieces are pretty rubbish representations of the film characters. Or he might not be that familiar with all their names. Remembering 1 female name is a lot easier than 13 similar sounding names.

Recalling now would probably mean a lot of money down the drain

So they've just decided to release them anyways, as with the Bridge Direct Legolas and Tauriel figurines.

Yes, I think they've chalked up this Film 2 merchandise being released early

as a side-effect of the trilogy decision, one which is fairly minor in the scheme of things and would require a lot of money and effort to correct. But all in all, that's better for us as we get to see these things far sooner! Wink

My Top 5 Wish List for "The Hobbit"
5. Legolas will surf down Smaug's neck
