Yup, I imagine something like that

And then the EE for TABA would be released just before Christmas.

I'm still hoping they push TABA to December 2014

A Middle-earth movie in the middle of July? Unheard of! Evil

This would be ideal!

Should we gatecrash the filming next year, just so we can selfishly have TABA at Christmas? Evil

The last I knew, DoS will still debut theatrically on December 13, 2013.

The last DOS release

was in 2000. I'm pretty sure Microsoft is done with it.

I still work on old DOS systems

so this particular acronym is going to take some getting used to for me.

TDOS

Microsoft ended their development and support of DOS a long, long time ago. There is no new release planned.

I don't think DoS:EE will be released after TaBA's cinema bow

The Extended Editions are all part of the build-up for the next film. having a whole new range of DVDs in stores around the new film's cinema release is extra advertising. Plus, for fans, it's great to have a whole period of one film (cinema, DVD, EE DVD) before the next.

My guess would be:

2012
Dec - AUJ cinema release

2013
May - AUJ DVD release*
Nov - AUJ: EE DVD release
Dec: DoS cinema release

2014
Apr - DoS DVD release**
Late June/Early July - DoS EE release
July - TaBA cinema release
Dec - TaBA DVD release and boxset of theatricals (ready for Christmas)

2015
Apr/May - TaBA: EE DVD release and Extended boxset
October - Middle-Earth deluxe boxset (as they have done with Harry Potter and The Dark Knight trilogy the autuman of the following year of their final films' release)

That'll be my guess. Spaces them out as well as they can whilst hitting the marketing points (new film out/Christmas/etc) they need to

*I don't think they'll rush it for April, I think they'll try and keep it in cinemas as long as possible. More and more big films are taking five months to come to DVD now - Hunger Games, Avengers and Dark Knight Rises for example

** For this one though they have little choice but to get it out

I think it will get bumped, too.

In fact, I'm gonna be a conspiracy theorist and say July has never been anything than a cover. I could very well prove wrong, but I firmly believe that we'll be getting There and Back Again at Christmas time.

They have set a date though

And they must have got on many people's (companies) nerves splitting the films so late on. Would they risk changing it again?

They had dates before...

I just don't think they'll release two films within 7 months of each other. Would I love to see TABA so soon, sure. But I also want it at Christmas like all the others.

Time will tell.

Agreed

I don't mind waiting!

Though that's what I was getting at. They've changed it once before. They probably want to avoid that again. Any delay in filming next year may push TABA back. Here's hoping! Cool

I would not be at all surprised

If the additional filming or whatever was responsible for the "delay."

Maybe they're uncertain about the success of the films?

Another year of marketing is expensive, so perhaps if AUJ does well enough they'll push TABA back, if it under-performs they'll keep TABA where it is.
