Can't say I agree with the "difficulty" level on some of the riddles

Great game though! Makes me even more worried though that PJ has made up a couple of his own riddles for the scene. Crazy

Because he is still attached to the film
And I'm sure there are many ideas that were born out of his mind that were still used.

The script undegoes constant revision though. When he was director they hadn't started filming. The script would have undergone endless re-writes once PJ took over. Smile

I've always enjoyed riddles
ever since I had to study original Anglo-Saxon ones. It's interesting that many of them display the type of humour that the English still have today.

This one is strange/unexpected and even Monty Pythonesque; almost along the lines of a trick question like "What has he got in his pocketses?":

Riddle: What is green and has four wheels?

Answer: [spoiler]Grass. I lied about the wheels![/spoiler]

Who would have thought that the Anglo-Saxons had such an off-the -wall sense of humour?

Edit: Unfortunately, my spoilers haven't worked. If someone can tell me how to do it, I shall put up a rude one to demonstrate where the English got their love of double entendre from. I don't feel I can post it un-spoilered, LOL!

Most of those are pretty good. A few have issues with the way the submitter typed the answer that prevent you from getting credit even when you're right. There was only one I couldn't figure out. :)

Even though the script is constantly undergoing rewrites, much of the original still remains largely unchanged. If you compare the original three film scripts with the final version, you'll find plenty that remains. (I think.)

Has the line:

My tail "sports" feathers to guide me along.

Really? Sports? That word is more modern than I am...

My guess is that these aren't all from the film, though. There's little to no reason for the excellent riddles from the book to be changed.

Although I wouldn't be surprised if some of the book riddles will be changed or that entirely different ones will be included, unnecessary though I deem that.

I hope not, but there is no limit in my mind to the possible changes that the filmmakers might make. If they think that this scene (or, for instance, the "good morning" sequence that both of us like so much) would work better in a different way in their film they will do that way.

The site says that all the non-Tolkien riddles (that I've seen) are from Craig Williamson, author of "A Feast of Creatures: Anglo-Saxon Riddle-Songs" as well as "Beowulf and Other Old English Poems." I don't think they're meaning to suggest these will be in the film.

This is my 2 cents on the Del Toro credit issue
The way the WGA determines who receives credit on a script is incredibly arbitrary. Del Toro worked for a time on the initial draft of the screenplay and possibly contributed an idea (i.e. a gag, a line, etc) that made it into the script.

The credits are based on the draft that was handed into the studio. It's pretty likely that what he contributed to that draft got replaced in subsequent drafts via further pre-production rewrites and Walsh and Boyens' constant tweaking of scenes during production. There's also the decisions the actors and director make whilst filming to take into consideration.

Lastly, he's a name guy now, and one WB is backing by letting him helm Pacific Rim. I wouldn't be surprised if the studio was able to twist a few arms at the WGA to make sure his name came up, just so it's out there int he public eye.

But being a core part of the team that drafted the entire first final draft of the script means that despite significant changes since then by PBJ etc, the bones of the script will very much have GDT's stamp on it. And I hope so. He's a much better writer than P, B and J, and a more thoughtful student of myth and legend.

At least, the Craig Williamson ones are pretty good. And I enjoyed it myself as well. In fact I even submitted my own riddle! Laugh

But the fan riddles are a mixed bag. Some of them are good, while others are not. Regardless though it was very fun. Smile
