While I feel that this poster and the one yesterday are a bit too crowded for movie posters, my dislike is overwhelmed by my excitement of seeing new pics.

Are we certain that pic of Lee is not from LOTR? His face doesn't look like it's aged a day.

I think this is my favourite poster of the ones released so far, actually -- it looks like the posters the LotR trilogy had!
Since the site doesn't allow right-clicking to get the url of that big version, I pulled the link out of the HTML instead. Here's the full size. :D
Saruman looks a lot younger and less decrepit! So does Elrond, actually.

All those pictures were very cool!

Elrond, Saruman, Gandalf, and Galadriel look almost just like they did ten years ago!

And I like the two references back (or forward) to LOTR. "Servant of the Secret Fire" as DanielLB pointed out was very cool, and Smeagol's, "Up, up, up it goes!" I think is funny. In the book Gollum just says, "Up, up it goes" but this slight change makes the quote almost identical to the one from the trilogy where Smeagol said, "Up, up, up the stairs we go!" (In one of the Comic-con reports it also said "Up, up, up" but I thought it might have just been a mistake)

Apparently Smeagol likes things in threes too! Sly

The Wormtongue effect.

How could anyone look at this Saruman and believe he's a good guy? Or is he meant to represent 'good but dangerous', like Galadriel?

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

Omisions.

In terms of making a quality and approachable movie for the casual fan, introducing Cirdan, Glofindel and Erestor into the story not long after introducing the 13 dwarves would be very tricky to do. Tolkein never gave them essential roles in the White Council so it's not surprising they've been omitted.

Radagast on the other hand is more surprising an omission given he's in the film anyway. There must be a good reason. Maybe he'll be protrayed as more 'washed up' than in the books.

Theoretically, all three (five?) Istari were members of the White Council--at least in potentia. The two 'Blue Wizards' were, of course, missing in action; however, Radagast's lack of participation was completely his own fault.

Tired of worrying with it. But Glorfindel can be better than assumed.

Aside from being the mightiest of Rivendell's Elves, aside from Elrond, and his close friendship with Gandalf and Elrond, at Elrond's council he comments on events from White Council meetings, concerning Saruman, etc.

Still a great picture. I mean to put it on my social media.

That's still a bit of a cop out / sop to the lower common denominator, and an unneeded shame given the fairly minor addition of an actor in a beard (Cirdan) and a slightly wider shot to get Radagast in there with a line or two. You don't exactly need to introduce them to the audience or take up screen time to show them. Think Ioreth in the houses of the healing (albeit that was in the ROTK EE).

Minimal cost and I'm sure that casual fans aren't that thick that they'd (literally) lose the plot. More dedicated fans would nod sagely and appreciate the correctness.

Besides, the complexity and number of characters in Game of Thrones and Harry Potter don't seem to have dented their mass appeal any. I'm far from convinced that including a couple of extra characters in the White Council would make the film any less approachable to a casual audience. The film will still be successful as a result of the success of the LOTR films which means the "casual fan" market who would be flummoxed by Cirdan/Radagast would surely be relatively small).

There may be plot/character reasons for Radagast to be absent, but yes, there's no particular reason there couldn't be some random Rivendell elves in the background (and maybe there will be!). But this is assuming there is something akin to a formal White Council meeting in the films, and not just a couple ad-hoc discussions among the individuals who happen to be there.

I expect any White Council meeting that takes place while Thorin & Co. are in Rivendell to be just such an ad-hoc affair. Any full meeting of the Council should come later, after Gandalf leaves Bilbo and the Dwarves following the encounter with Beorn.
