I am under the belief that it would be impossible for anyone to do this

For one thing, there is so much material...at least six three hour films. Secondly, there is little dialogue to use (meaning lots of cheesy movie dialogue in its place), and thirdly due to everything going on there is not time for character development, as the audience simply wouldn't have time to get to know any of them, even some of the more prominent characters such as Feanor. Finally, the Tolkien Estate own The Silmarillion completely, not to mention the fact that they absolutely despise PJ's adaptations (at least most of them do). End of lecture.
"Radagast is, of course, a worthy wizard, a master of shapes and changes of hue, and he has much lore of herbs and beasts, and birds are especially his friends."-Gandalf, The Lord of the Rings.
