So, what are your "Hobbit" plans?

All this stuff and nonsense about the commercial (as opposed to the artistic) side of Sir Peter's current project has got me in a financial state of mind. Believe it or not, all day at work today, in the back of my mind, I was doing some calculations, mentally adjusting my calendar and my bank account, based on current and forseen future projections. This has got me to wondering, where my fellow Tornsibs are in their "Hobbit" preperations? What are your "Hobbit"plans, starting, say, Oct 1st? (seeing as people are lining up in Norway already!?!)
When, how, and in what fps are you planning on seeing it in? Midnight showing? Line parties, and when are YOU planning to line up? Moots? Can you, way early on? Who are you going with,, how many times, etc. What merchandise are you buying, for who, etc etc.
And are you taking any off this stuff seriously? After all, it's just a movieCool (....stage whisper: "NOT." )

I'll make my own list.

--1)Tickets: I happen to be very lucky, and have Wednesdays off from work. So on Wednesday, Nov. 7th I'll be right at my theater of choice, buying in person (I live only minutes away, and besides, on special occasions such as this, I don't trust to Fandango!Smile)

--2)Showings: I plan on going to the midnight showing, at our town's only IMAX theater, they only have one IMAX (or rather, BABYMAX) screen at my local mall 18-plex, and so I have no choice as to the fps. I hope the midnight IMAX showing is in traditonal something. I plan on buying for myself, a friend, and possibly a fellow Albany, NY sib if he wants me to.
Depending on if my town gets 48fps, I'll be seeing it at least 3 times: the midnight showing Dec 13th (14th), once Saturday night (15th), and once the follwing weekend in 48 fps if possible. Once in 3D, once in 2D, and yikes....

3)Check one: (this is according to Empire Magazine's helpful guide to "Hobbit" formats in the October issue--theaters will have to pass out maps with film type keysCrazy showing what theater is what format. Would be cool if it was in the style of Thorin's map.)
-2D 24fps (tradtitional film)
-2D IMAX 24 fps
-3D 24ps (traditional 3D)
(oh yeah, and in the U.S. there's also " REAL" 3D vs some other kind of 3D--and we're still in 24 fps:)
-2D 48fps (this will exist?! It's not enough to tell the ticket lady, "I want 2D, not 3D"--you can't assume it's normal" if it's 24, then--is your head spinning yet?!? Grrr.)
-3D 48fps
-3D IMAX 48fps
(Let me correct that: Is your head EXPLODING YET?!CrazyLaugh
This should also be nteresting b/c with digital, a theater can presumably add or drop formats based on customer demand. If this is the cae, it will be interesting to see which format swiflty proves most popular.)

For me, see above.

4)When are you buying tickets? Where (online or in person? And it would be nice to add what your journey to your theater will be like--distance, methhod of travel, and BTW where you are.)

5)Who are you going with for each showing? How any times will you see it?( Again, for me, see above). .

6) Are you going to a line party?
(Well, as my theater is in a huge shopping mall, the chance of line parties more than 24 hrs in time leght are impossible. At least in winter. Though for The Phantom Menace, that was such a HUGE insane oaccasion, the mall security bent the rules a little, and allowed fans to camp in the parking lot 36 hrs or so in advance. I suspect many of them were childhod fans too. Heck, in 1999 we were all of an age. Even the police.Tongue I could tell some other line stories but I'll save that for later in the thread, after youve shared yours!
I'll be getting out of work at 5 on Thursday and racing directly to the theater, and I know the lnes wll have started early in the morning. Extra sweaters, bag with books, food and drink (something hobbity I am sure like scones and tarts and muffins!) etc.

7) How are you saving money? (I started a Hobbit fund during the summer, which is filling up slower than I hoped, but will, God willing, greatly increase from Nov. 2 on, since due to a quirk of the calendar, I will be getting an extra paycheck that month!)

8) What do you plan to buy?
(Well, Empire magazine is the first essessinal, I still have the LOTR ones, they have the best magazine Tolkien film coverage ands down. All the major magazine articles. I have ENtertainment Weekly subscription already so that doesn;t count. Starting Dec 10 , every USA Today and NY Times issues with HObbit relate stuff in them, I had a ritual of hauting the drugstores every day to look through the paers. I know, I know..I save things, OK?:)I have a big box set for all this.
--all the major tie-in books
--finally buying paperbacks of the HoME, which I have yet to finish
--The BBC LOTR radio recording, someone give me info on the name of this and if Band Noble carries it--you know, Ian Holm as Frodo)
--the soundtracks, of course
--I will FINALLy complete my "mission-quest-thing" to acquire The LOTR Complete Recordings, which I couldnt afford back then, AND Doug's Music of LOTR book, ditto
--Any Hobbit-related books of same
--MAYBE a Tuariel figure (funny, I never liked toy tie-insl but someone gave me a Arwen on her palfrey action figure and love it)
--besides, the DVD's, any EE's IF we have them, though if each film is 2 hrs long I don't know if we will
-a 2013 Hobbit calendar of course
--THe Frodo Franchise" in paperback, my hard-cover is getting dog-eared
--I have LOTR Monopoly and I'd love to have TH same

That's all I can think of, for now--as to its importance--that too for later!

That is alot to consider

I will take your post a little at a time. I will probably post again to answer some questions. (Hope that's okay.)
I'll start with tickets. I don't know when I will get ticket s. My exams end on the day the Hobbit is released, and it would be great to celebrate the end of the semester by seeing the Hobbit. But I don't know if I should purchase tickets in advance, if I should just go the day it comes out, or wait a few days and buy tickets the day I go see it. It's something I'm not too sure about yet. I will see the Hobbit, and I really want to see it, I just haven't come to terms yet of when I should get tickets. It'll also depend who I'm going with, which I will answer in another post.

Decisions to make ...

Loved your post. I’ve been so busy of late that I haven’t had time to post, but you’ve reminded me of times past and the excitement ahead.

I went to the LOTR movies with a non-Tolkien friend. At the time of ROTK my mother was dying and I felt I couldn’t leave her. My friend thought that I needed a break and arranged things with both the cinema and the resthome – if my mother worsened they knew how to contact me. It was marvellous to watch the movie and to have some time away.

While I have no doubt my friend was thinking mainly of me - he knew how much I loved Tolkien and the movies - I suspect he was also thinking of himself as he has always said that he wouldn’t have bothered going to any of the movies if it hadn’t been for me explaining things to him.

This time things are again a little different. In Christchurch we have so few movie theatres as most have been demolished because of the earthquakes. It has meant that we often have to go to movies at a day or time that wouldn’t normally suit. I will be going to whichever cinema is showing the movie.

But I do have to decide when – my movie friend lives in another city and comes to Christchurch for the summer holidays – but this time he arrives a little later than normal – so do I wait a week and go with him, or do I go straight away and then go a second time with him? I strongly suspect that it will be the latter!

First viewing

Will be 2D, 24fps, a weekday matinee showing with my wife four or five days after opening night. Hopefully, with no more than 15 or so other people in the audience.

Good luck with that

Top movie of the year? Only 15 people in the audience? Even in backwater towns out in the East Coast you still draw much greater crowds for smaller movies Wink Best of luck to ya.

First viewing shall be the whole shabang, myself. Using it as my birthday present, and while I'll be unable to catch it opening day, I will go to any expense to get to an IMAX theater for spectacular 48 fps 3D! There's no reason to hold off the revolution, my friends!

Some friends and I have started a book club

solely for the purpose of the movie release. We're reading a book a month, culminating in The Hobbit for November/December. After that final meeting we're heading out to see the film. Still don't know where, but would LOVE to attend a party of some kind in the Southern California area. We'll see what pops up!

But you are what you love,

Plans and savings

If I could get a hold of some of that troll gold, I am very tempted to hop the Tasman to New Zealand, as in Australia we don't get the film until the 26th of December. Not for the premier, (am otherwise engaged) but for the general release on the 14th of December!

Funding is tight though!

Well...

I will buy tickets as soon as they become available and will go to whatever is the earliest showing in 2D I can go to on the day it's released (which is 12/12/12 in Finland). Unfortunately I'll probably have to skip any midnight showing though. I'll probably go alone on Wednesday when it comes out and try to drag some friends with me during the weekend when I go see it again (and again and again).

Everything is under control

Have already reserved holiday for the 13th, as I expect there to be a midnight showing the previous night. I don't know when tickets will go on sale, but I have the theatres newsletter (the only theatre showing movies in original language), so I expect to know in time. Going with my friend and my brother. After that probably go y myself one or two more times. Maybe have to do a German screening for the sake of my friend, don't know if I will be able to endure it.
I've recently preordered two of the books being released beginning of November. Need to find a colleague to bring me Empire Mags from London business trips, that won't be a problem. Sondtrack, might actually buy as :gasp: CD for the shelf, and not merely through itunes as I have grown accustomed to. And anxoiusly looking forward to getting a poster for my workplace. Don't know yet about memorabilia, but a calendar should be considered.

Once more dreamt of PJ last night. Blush He still hasn't invited me to a premiere although each time I have this dream I have dropped hints like anvils on him But we had a glass of wine, and he keeps offering me jobs. Unsure

Haven't made up my mind yet....

...but I know I will be seeing this multiple times in the cinemas. It's my first viewing I need to make a decision on.

I live near Los Angeles, so I assume finding a 48 fps screening won't be a problem. I can make the trip to ArcLight Hollywood, where there is reserved seating (less lines) and the latest film presentation tech. I'm just not sure if my first screening should be in 48 fps or not.

Should I focus on story, structure, and characters first rather than marveling at the technical side of the film? That is what I'm leaning towards now. I know many of you are planning to see the new frame rate right away though too. What would you guys suggest? Either way, I will be coming back for multiple viewings, as I am a film student.

I'm not a huge fan of 3D, but I do trust Jackson to use it well, just like Scorsese did with Hugo. I also am interested in seeing how the frame rate will affect my opinion of it. But do I wait until after I see the film once?

not very extensive plans

I´ll probably see AUJ twice. The first time I want to see it with my husband and several friends (probably 5). We´ll probably wait to see it 3-4 days after the premiere. We all prefer to see the film in the evening, not on a midnight showing. I´ll buy the tickets online.

The second time I haven´t decided on yet. Perhaps I´ll go with one of my sisters.

I would prefer to see the film in 2D first, so I´ll have to check where this option is available as I´m sure the majority of screenings in the major cinemas will be in 3D.

I´ll buy the DVD´s of course, probably EEs if this option will be available. I might buy an art print or a poster if I find anything I like, but apart from that I´m not planning on buying Hobbit merchandise or tie-ins, I´ve never been particularly interested in that kind of things; not a collector you see. I´ll probably buy the BBC LoTR radio recordings sometime next year, though.

Um... my plan is basically this: walk into local cinema when I have time to watch the movie, buy ticket on spot and watch it. Period.
No saving money required, no elaborate plans required either.

Not many plans really

- One 2D 24fps screening in the local cinema with my dad
- One 3D 48fps IMAX screening in the city of Rotterdam with some friends. That is, if 48fps is available.
- Soundtrack on cd

That is the minimum plan :-P

Funny you should ask

I just this week emailed my best friend the information about The Hobbit. I've taken a half day off work & we'll meet for lunch before seeing an early afternoon show. We will see it in 3D but I'm not sure what other options will be available. I plan to see it at least one more time with my eight year old granddaughter in 2D.

I'm going to try to keep it low-key

No overnight line parties or advance ticket purchases for me. I'm not too keen on trying to duplicate the camping out stunt I did for Trilogy Tuesday 9 years ago.

Back then I was single, in college, and maybe a little too caught up in the pop culture excitement. Now I'm a 34 year old father of 3 who works late nights; the energy just isn't there.

I plan to watch the film probably on the Saturday of opening weekend, in 24 fps 2d with my wife, and leave the kids with a sitter (they're all too small for anything more sophisticated than Winnie the Pooh.) Keeping it a low-key family thing for the first showing is how I want to experience the movie the first time, like I did with FOTR.

Then I'm hoping I can catch a showing during the following week in 3D at the new IMAX theater at the mall here in Lubbock, assuming they finally have the place open by then Crazy

The question now is...

does one listen to the soundtrack before watching the film?

"'Ai! ai!' wailed Legolas. 'A Balrog! A Balrog is come!'
Gimli stared with wide eyes. 'Durin's Bane!' he cried, and letting his axe fall he covered his face.
'A Balrog,' muttered Gandalf. 'Now I understand. What an evil fortune! And I am already weary.''

I am extremely jealous

Of all this excitement. I fully expected to be feeling the same sense of anticipation and anxiousness for the opening myself, but at this point I just can't seem to dig it out. If anything I'm actually not even sure now that I want to go see it at all Unsure. And that realization really kind of blows me away... After decades of waiting for a real movie adaptation I never imagined this would happen. Big conflicting emotions about the whole thing. It feels very bizarre and strange...

I will still go see it, for sure. But the trailer made me realize that there is little chance of this actually being a really good movie.

It will likely be decent, kinda fun fantasy, with its share of stupidities, and that's about it.

It wasn't so much the trailer for me

I've been feeling this way for over a year now since they released the dwarf designs. It just seems like they are making a joke and kind of a mockery of the story to me. The last trailer just further cemented the feeling. This really isn't the thread to go on about it as I don't want to ruin the fun of those that are excited, but it brought out what I had been thinking about recently with the release coming up is all.

Collector's Editions

I shall get most of the literary tie-ins - already have Brian Sibley's book on pre-order, and the Weta Design Chronicles - and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Collector's Editions of the EEs like we were treated to with LotR. I might get a few other bits of 'tasteful' merchandize if anything catches my eye, but I won't go overboard. Probably the kids will end up with more Hobbit-related stuff than me! We've already got Christmas lists drawn up with LotR Lego, sets and suchlike... the forthcoming Wii Lego LotR videogame is also desperately waited upon!

The best thing for me is that my kids are all old enough to enjoy the movies at the theatre with me properly this time around. SmileHeart

It's all in your expectations

The first time I went to see FOTR, despite having kept up with the trailers, TV specials, spoilers, etc., my brain still expected it to follow the book. When it didn't in spots, I felt conflicted, even though I generally loved the movie overall. With more and more viewings, I got more and more used to it, and grew to love (most of) the changes too.

With you, it sounds like the opposite: you expect it to be so *not* like the book you're convinced you're going to hate it even before you've seen it. Maybe this is one of those 'expect the worst, then be pleasantly surprised' situations? If you *do* decide to go see it, I hope that's the outcome for you. Smile

wow lot of planning

I plan to pretty much, walk into cinema, buy ticket and then watch the film, simples Smile

I dont really feel the need to buy any tie in books, i have followed things on here real close and tbh i think they are just cash grabs. I got the lotr ones and i read them once and after that they sat on my self for a few years til i gave them away. Obviously if others find they have repeated viewings in them, then its a great idea for an xmas present.

I am going to get or ask around to see if someone is getting my little sister the lotr lego xbox game - if no one is then i will get it for her as i think she will love it and secretly i wanna play it as well!

In reply to R11 i have been less enthusiastic about this film since the trailer but at the end of the day its just a trailer and can give the wrong impression on what the film will be like. For me i think it will be good but nothing special i would love it to be special though and hope it can smash my expectations.

Zen Viewing

One must walk into the theater without expectations. The movies will be what they are. This is difficult to do as we have saturated our minds with all that we know about the content and the process of making them. You need to relax and let it happen. A critical mind will interfere with the first viewing, There will be time to criticize later.

I have vague plans

I'm afraid my finances will be decimated after going to Wellington for my birthday/TH Premier funtimes, but I plan on seeing TH multiple times.

I will go to the midnight screening with my partner, probably. Then I'll watch it again with various groups of friends, both in 3D and 2D. I'm not sure if my local theatre in Christchurch will get upgraded to 48fps, but I have a feeling it won't. I plan on seeing it at least once by myself. I don't plan on queuing for ages for tickets or anything, though - I'm disabled so it wouldn't actually be possible for me. I just hope people will be conscientious of their fellow movie-goers when the time comes :)

It's also possible that the university sci-fi club will do a private screening for club members, which would be pretty awesome. We did one for The Avengers and it was great fun to be in a theatre completely filled with geeky friends - it was like a big party!

I remember when FotR was released, I was living in a tiny little town which wouldn't be screening the movie for at least a month after it was showing in the cities, so my parents took me to the city to see it. When it finally came to my hometown, I saw it several times a week, as it only cost NZ$5 to go to the movies. It was all volunteer run, and even had intermission so they could sell snacks and make more money to keep the place running. Very cute!

Similar to the LOTR movies

I have to wait until the days around Christmas to see The Hobbit with my siblings. We'll have to figure out which day since Christmas is a Tuesday - maybe Christmas Eve or Sunday the 23rd.

There are five of us, and since my brother and I are the biggest fans, he and I have to sit in positions 2 and 4 so that there is a sister on each side of us in case they have questions.

Now, that sounds like it would have a lot of money in it, but there's enough for film 1 viewings, some books, a dvd or 2, some toys, etc. I won't be able to go as nuts on the extras like I did for LotR... no travelling to conventions/Oscar Parties, a few Sideshow pieces, etc.... but I will enjoy going to the films, fersher! I'm in contact with my local theatre managers trying to work out a multi-viewing ticket price ;)

I'm working with the theatre about putting together a LotR marathon in December and a Hobbit line party. I've done a marathon with them before, but never a line party... so that's a bit intimidating ;)

I'll be buying my first batch of tickets as soon as they go on sale! The first day, I'll see it at least twice. I prefer to go to these alone or with people who are geeks; but mostly alone so I can really be absorbed into it.

Making a costume for Halloween/Opening Night for The Hobbit. If I don't get it done in time for the first film, I'll either wear my gramma gammer costume or my gramma Wraith/Nazgul costume... it's very comfy :) Believe me, nothing is weirder than a 5' 3" 60 yo gramma Black Rider ;) As long as I keep my hood on, it's just a mini-Black running around.

I'm taking at least one day off from work to get to the theatre all I want! I'll go see them in 3D a few times, but most of my transports to Middle-earth will be the old-fashioned, conventional format. I don't want to be distracted AT ALL!

Practice patience and tolerance. The worse part of my theatre viewings is when the people around me eat and rattle their packages. Drives me NUTS! AND... AND... those people who stand up when the credits start and just stand there... putting on their coats... waiting to get into the steps/isles.... while I'm still sitting there obviously watching the credits. You'd be amazed how many people do the same sort of thing when the movie is starting!!! They show up just when it's beginning and stand there taking off their coats, discussing who will sit where, rattle their freakin' food.... ARGH!!! SIT DOWN! So have a care, folks, when you're in and out of the movies. Don't be a tourist and dawdle in front of those sitting and enjoying their experience. *puff, pant* Not much makes me angry... but this stuff really does! This and oblivious drivers ;) And empty ice cream containers. *sniffle* So sad....

That said, however... I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE to go to the first viewings when the place is packed to the gills with people who love these films! The energy and excitement is palpable! You can swim in the good vibes and anticipation! Excited, geeky noises coming from viewers (woots, gasps, laughter, tears, applause) doesn't bother me a bit... cuz usually I'm right in there with them... if not the instigator ;)

Hobbity stuff I've already got:
Sideshow/Weta: Gandalf sitting and smoking pipe and exclusive Bag End environ with rooms. I consider both of these Hobbit-esque pieces since they came out well after LotR items.
Hobbit Hero Pack Bilbo, Thorin, Dwalin, Kili, Fili 3.75" action figures
Hobbit 6" Bilbo
Hobbit 6" Gandalf
and the 3.75" Legolas/Tauriel set
Hobbit tie-in book (with Bilbo on cover)
Hobbit tie-in book (Bilbo or Frodo in tattered cloak)
Hobbit Annual
2013 Tolkien calendar by Howe/Lee
pewter Bilbo/Gollum Riddles in the Dark
Empire magazines (and any mags with Hobbity news)
Comic-con invisible Bilbo
Comic-con acorn pin
Hobbit t-shirt (Bilbo in door)
I know I'm forgetting stuff... but there you are :)

Compiling The Hobbit Geeky Observation List. That means I'll take a tablet with me every time I go to write down observation. A HEADS-UP TO EVERYONE! I'm in the process THIS WEEK of asking for observations from all of you based on what we've already seen to put onto the list. There's going to be a list for each film, so be sure to note which film the observation is for. If you're not sure what I'm talking about, check out my link below to see the LotR Observations lists. They're in the process of being updated/edited... so a few changes are being made. Please don't give the observations here... just watch for my post in a few days :)

This is all just so surreal. We've been waiting for these films for so many years and through so many threats and changes... I'm just so happy that they have finally been born and that Peter Jackson and his entire filmic-family are the ones to do it. I can't think of one single thing that has not been done or included that I have remorse for. I'm already so territorial anticipating these that it's getting hard to focus. So many years of hoping. This is all such a dream come true!!!

I really need these new films to take me back to, and not re-introduce me to, that magical world.

Not taking any chances

I will probably decide whether or not to see the film in theatrical release based on a composite of reactions expressed here and elsewhere.

Really?

Personally, I wouldn't listen to anyone's views and opinions on whether one should see the films. Especially not from here Wink

Not quite what I mean

Specific opinions as to the quality of the films or whether they should be seen won't affect my decision. An overall mental picture of the content based on the collective response will (including all spoilers.)

This may depress some, but I don't want any of it to come as a surprise.

Plans...

I plan to see it:

Opening Night (4K 3D 48fps) and several times there after.

I will see it in (probably both in the same day):

4K 2D 24fps
4K 3D 48fps

For subsequent viewings... not sure which format yet because I haven't seen them yet.

My plans...

I'm going to the midnight premiere, dressed as Radagast.

Well...

The one thing that drives me insane in theatres these days is people who cannot even refrain from playing with their phones for the two-two and a half hours it takes to watch a movie. Sitting in the dark and having someone's phone screen glare into my eye drives me mad every time. The other day I even started cussing to the woman next to me who was starting to use her phone, in German none the less as I was so mad I had forgotten I was in Bath. Blush
Now the idea someone would actually start typing away on their tablet in the dark theatre.... Are you sure you want to do this? Better hope I won't be there. Evil

well to be honest...

I'll be seeing it in 2D at 24fps definitely not on opening night. I'm going to wait till Friday or Saturday and see it before noon, that way i am only paying $5 bucks to see it and not giving WB any more of my hard earned money than humanly possible. Angelic I still believe the whole "3 film" decision was their idea to generate more revenue over the course of this trilogy and I won't give them any more of my money than I have to. Tongue

You and Sunflower seem to be birds of a feather in this regard

I'm not like this at all. I actually wish I could generate this kind of enthusiasm for, well, anything. I hope you both enjoy the movie, I have a feeling PJ will do a good job.

King Arthur: You know much that is hidden oh Tim.

Tim: Quite.

That's entirely possible.

However, my friends are going with me, dressed as a Hobbit and an Elf. The one dressing as a Hobbit is really tall, so it's going to be pretty funny.

I don't have to worry about missing

any opening night costumes where I am. Since the Dark Knight shooting the theater I usually go to has banned costumes so there really isn't much need to go to opening night to see anything like that. Besides when i can see the same film for $5 instead of $10 or $12 I'll do it Smile

Well, that's Gramma for ya

I often call her the "5th Founding Member" of TORn (though she'd deny it and deny it). Smile She's sort of an institution around here. I wish you could meet her, Mr Shelob. I think afterwards you might even forget to be skeptical. She's just that much of a sweetheart....AND Tolkien fan extrordinaire...

You know

Back months earlier, and over the summer, I was excited but there were times when it really was all just, some days, meh. But since Comic-Con, or right about there, I think in a paradoxical way the films have become more important. Not that I'm really obsessed or anythingSmile, but I find it unbearable to even read the news anymore.....and everyone I know is going through such heard times. There's been little enough cheer to go around. And nobdy seems to have real hope for the future or dream any really big dreams. It's all they can do to hang on, and everyone is turning inward.

I take a look at the world around me, and can't help thinking that Th is coming along at just the right time. It's more than just escape...we really need to be reminded of something that in a mass medium and will bring us a bit of joy. (Hence my thread last week in Main.)

Her enthusiasm is infectious

Honestly, I love people like that, as they help relieve me of my bouts of cynicism!

On TORC, there is a user "Wildwood" who is equally fun-spirited, though she refuses to watch the films. Her posts are full of smileys, and offers of chocolate, and I just can't help but get all caught up in it.

There, I said it. I am a sucker for positive women!

My Hobbit screening plans are more advanced than I would have guessed they'd be at this point

Even though I'm looking forward to the film hugely and am literally counting the days it was only the other day that I realised I had made plans to see it seven times already, all in the first couple of weeks!

Screening 1 is a nice easy one - I am lucky enough to manage a very nice cinema and so, as it turns midnight between the 13th and 14th December, I'll be starting a staff screening of the film. 2D, 24FPS. I've said it before but that's how I left Middle-Earth - that's how I plan to re-enter it. And, as I say, that'll be with a few members of staff and my girlfriend.

Screening 2 will be on the afternoon of December 14th (I'll be working the evening and can't wait - I worked all of the openings for LOTR and feel very nostalgic for those shifts) at the cinema I used to work at and the one I watched all of the original trilogy at. That showing will be 3D and will be just me.

Screening 3 will be on December 16th and will be with a friend who I travelled around New Zealand with back in 2010 where she got dragged to many of the locations. Luckily she loved them and so this will be our chance to see some of what we saw together on the big screen. And that will be in IMAX, in 3D and 48fps. That one's the real treat!

Screenings 4 and 5 will be the week after Christmas when I visit my relatives back home. I took my little sister to see each of the LOTR films every Christmas when they were out and, although she's no longer little, I intend to keep up the tradition and take our 16 year old niece along too who is currently mad about Lord of the Rings. And my best friend lives there who I watched all three of the originals with and he's the biggest Tolkien geek I I know so seeing it with him as soon as we get the chance in mandatory.

Then, over the new year, I've made vague plans for screenings 6 and 7 - once at my cinema (it's free!) with my girlfriend and her parents and once at the local IMAX digital with a friend.

I'm sure there will be more screenings afterwards as well. I ended up seeing Fellowship about 13/14 times on its first run (it was when I started working at a cinema and the excitement of being able to go for free got to me) and have gotten to at least 20 big screen viewings of it n the years since. Never once has it felt diluted. I hope it's the same way with The Hobbit.
