Film and TV pump billions into NZ's economy

From stuff.co.nz:

New Zealand's film and TV industry has risen to become one of the country’s most lucrative - reeling in more than $3.23 billion last year. Film Auckland chairman Pete Rive welcomed the study as an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the local screen community. He hailed Spartacus, Mr Pip, Emperor (starring Matthew Fox), and The Hobbit as examples of recent successes.

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded b*****d with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

The Gaffer and I would have eventually reached NZ, I'm sure

But thanks to LotR and TORn, we got there sooner rather than later, and more than once! So we've done our bit for the Kiwi economy, very happily Smile We'd go back tomorrow. NZ is truly one of the world's special places. (I hope y'all don't mind sharing the crown with Scotland Tongue )

Do we walk in legends or on the green earth in the daylight?

A man may do both. For not we but those who come after will make the legends of our time. The green earth, say you? That is a mighty matter of legend, though you tread it under the light of day!

Humbled to. ;)

I visited Scotland in 1995, driving through the lower Highlands and over to Skye. The landscape is jaw-dropping. One area of New Zealand that reminds me of driving among Scotland's mountain tops is the Napier end of the Napier-Taupo road.

Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."

Sauron: "Mine's better."

It was Dunedin that reminded us of Scotland

Driving from Port Chalmers into Dunedin, we said to each other, we could be driving along the Moray Firth outside Inverness---at least until we took a closer look at the vegetation! The original settlers caught the resemblance, too, since the Scottish names are fairly thick there. With the cool, drizzly day, we were feeling thoroughly dislocated Crazy

Inverness: The first place we saw sunshine

after three weeks in Ireland. We fell asleep on the banks of the river in the sunshine. *Very* happy memory!

Pssst, Ataahua

I wonder if you know about a very good new series that started on TV last night called 'The History of Scotland'. It's riveting. It's on ChoiceTV - Freeview 12 if you have it. If you don't get to see it on telly, you may be able to catch it on DVD at some stage.
I have quite a lot of Scots in my background, and my Great Granny had the most beautiful Scottish accent.
When I hear bagpipes I go just a wee bit weird...

I caught five minutes of it

while scrolling during ads. I really want to see this! However I can never find out when Choice TV is being screened or what programmes are on. (My Freeview 12 is the racing channel - I think Choice is on 7 or 8 here.)

I'll have to do some searching online as the local newspaper is rubbish beyond the main channels.
