Bret McKenzie (Lindir) Talks The Hobbit

Bret McKenzie is best known for being one part of "New Zealand's fourth most popular folk-rock act", Flight Of The Conchords.

Keen-eyed Lord Of The Rings fans might also know him for his potrayal of the elf Figwit...

Ah bless.

In Lord Of The Rings, his character's name was Figwit, but it was never actually said out loud.

Good on you for trying, Empire. Laugh

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded b*****d with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

*teeheee* Love this guy!

And I can't WAIT to see what Sir Ian and he cook up for a musical! OMG! It could either be brilliant, or nasty scary! Either way... I'M THERE!!!

I really need these new films to take me back to, and not re-introduce me to, that magical world.

We got to hear his voice in ROTK

He says "Lady Arwen we cannot delay. ... My lady."

Interesting that the article specifies that we will see him in the second film. I doubt that is right; why wouldn't we see him when the company first reaches Rivendell? But we'll see.

So he won't be

Tauriel's love interest. That means our list of candidates runs thin. Good, good...

Don't forget

Bilbo. And Smaug! Tongue

My Top 5 Wish List for "The Hobbit"
5. Legolas will surf down Smaug's neck
4. Bilbo will be revealed to a Robot
3. Naked PJ cameo as Ghan-Buri-Ghan
2. Use not only 3D, but smell-o-vision, with axes coming out of the seats and poking the audience when appropriate
1. Not only keep the claim that Thorin & Co. ran amok in Mirkwood "molesting people", but depict said incident in vivid detail!!!!!

Hehe...you're right, she's not nearly hairy enough!

Along with Bombur, Gloin is the only other married Dwarf in the Company (there being a shortage of female dwarves in general). His wife is an acclaimed beauty with a particularly fine beard.

BTW, Bard is mentioned as being married as well in the 2010 casting sheet:

BARD is a direct descendant of the LORDS of DALE. Strong, weather-beaten and powerfully built, he is married with a young son.

And more recently, on this forum Carne discovered that a New Zealand actor named Michael Fowler was working as a stand-in for "Bain", IE, Bard's son...? So I suppose he might still be a family man in the new films, but his wife and son don't count as "major" casting..?

Bombur will Blow us AWAY!

He is "the Key" to much of the humor we will see!.
Steven Hunter under all that STUFF? is gunna be WonderFULL!
The Most Un-likely candidate for a Quest, since he is SO Huge.
A Super-Chubb?
Fat jokes aside, he has, a great BIG Role, here.

The design for Bombur is interesting as it's almost identical to the Obelix character from the French Asterix cartoons.

Seriously speaking though

Out of the characters you mentioned only Elros is in any way plausible, and he's so extremely peripheral there's zero chance of any major romantic subplot.

Besides... who on Middle-Earth is he? And do we still have any official word of him, or is he still basically just an IMDb rumor?

Kili!! Thranduil!! seriously??????

wait......I know there was an intial fleeting refernce to her falling in love with an Elf Lord (sorry that I had to remind you ;) ).....but where does it say concretely that she will have a love interest????
........I mean PJ could, I dunno, be -original- and make her a non-romantic she-elf????.....(only kidding PJ)

I belive it won't be anything major.

Maybe something of the sort of Faramir/Eowyn romance in the movie version.

That's a sad comment on its own right

The amount of screentime Faramir/Éowyn got in the theaterical version is just sad... I know it's a long movie and they had to cut out something blah blah, but sadly I don't always agree with PJ which themes and scenes are cuttable. The Pelennor Fields could well have been half a minute shorter to let the audience know Éowyn's and Faramir's character arcs had closure. Now they just reach their Darkest Moment and then fade away, only to be seen smiling (Why are they smiling? She was rejected by her love interest and his father made suicide, for all the audicence knows) in the backround. And don't let me get started with the Sons of the Steward. PJ, why? WHY?

If Tauriel/x has more screentime than Faramir/Éowyn, I'll be a very unhappy fangirl. Mad
