TORn parents: Post pics of your kids (or grandkids, nieces/nephews, pets, whomever you'd like to share...)

Here are my two oldest from this past Christmas morning: Lucas is on the left of the photo, he turns two in a few weeks. Nicholas is on the right, he just turned three the other day:

And here is my little Joey - he's just under five months old (the pic is from when he was three months - he looks pretty much the same at the moment Angelic ):

Wow Fingon,

your two oldest boys look like twins!

Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..."
Dwarves: "Pretty rings..."
Men: "Pretty rings..."
Sauron: "Mine's better."

"Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded b*****d with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.

Re: [Wynnie] kitty pic

lovely couch, Wynnie.

I admit to not being much of a pet person--especially now that we just got rid of two cats that found their way down into our crawlspace to keep warm during this cold snap, and their wailing and crying (poor things) drove my son nuts. (He is autistic, and sometimes noises that wouldn't bother us disturb him greatly.) We ended up having to pay to have them removed because there is so much snow on the ground here we couldn't get to them. Now, of course, we've seen to it that the crawlspace cover has been replaced.

But they are cute cats, and truly the couch is lovely.

I thought it would be fun to join in. Here are some photos of my dog Joy. She's getting old now but she still has lots of energy barking at the neighbor dogs and running down the drive way hill. I dont know her exact age but I'm pretty sure she's at least ten. My family got her when I was about 13 or 14. She's my first and only dog.

When the seas and mountains fall and we come to end of days, in the dark I hear your call calling me there, i will go there and back again.

Let's see how this works.

Here's the latest addition to the family, Lono.

Heehee! Whenver I see kitties chillin' in the sink

there's a really bad part of me that wonders what would happen if someone turned on the water. (And no, I would never do that.)

Pele actually *likes* water!

She sometimes hops in the shower with me. She doesn't completely submerge herself, but she'll sit at the far end with no problem. Strange cat.

Lono, on the other hand doesn't like water all that much. If he's walking along the edge of the tub Pele pushes him in.

My kitties

The orange one is Emily and the B&W is Toesie (uncreatively named because she has too many toes). I wish I had a picture of the two together, but they don't play well together. Emily is rather particular about who she will sleep next to, and Toesie just doesn't cut it apparently.

oh, she looks like a sweetie

I lost my most beloved shepherd Jenny last summer, at the ripe old age of 13 years and 8 months. A good age, but it's always too soon for them to go.

I'm now planning for my next shepherd, who should be born in June if things go as plan. Here's her mommy-to-be:

Good looking doggie there. I'm sure your new pup will be great. Shepherds are the best dogs!

Out of the darkness of my life, so much frustrated, I put before you the one great thing to love on earth: the Blessed Sacrament... There you will find romance, glory, honour, fidelity, and the true way of all your loves on earth, and more than that: Death: by the divine paradox, that which ends life, and demands the surrender of all, and yet by the taste (or foretaste) of which alone can what you seek in your earthly relationships (love, faithfulness, joy) be maintained, or take on that complexion of reality, of eternal endurance, which every man's heart desires.

and the other member of my household

Mandu the Small but Doughty. I got him at the shelter three years ago; he had fleas & ear mites & a respiratory infection, so his first week with me involved a lot of dosing with medicine, but what a payoff. Best cat I've ever had.

This is Chairman Meow, his buddy from next door, also a shelter rescue, making himself at home on my couch. Isn't he a handsome cat?

Belle the Terrible(ly) Cute, Devourer of Baseboards

at least when no one is keeping a close eye on her. She is, after all, still a bit of a puppy. We adopted her last year, and it's been a treat!

This is her future "husband" Snowy, who is owned by my in-laws. He's about a year old now, but this pic is too cute not to share.

it's easy to tell that those three are brothers!

Funny how strong the resemblances are in some families -- my husband's family is like that; mine, not at all.

Belle and Snowy

They're both purebred Maltese, though most people guess Bichon Frise or something Else. We kept them in a Maltese "puppy cut" for much of the year, mostly because of the heat. Also, they play so much that we think they're much happier with shorter fur; whenever it gets too long they get it tangled and dirty very easily...which means lots of baths. Neither one of them are big fans of baths.

Here's a more current pic of Snowy before getting sheared:

Here's a pic from last fall... The girl dogs both gang up on the boy...go figure. Ginger (my in-laws' Cairn Terrier mix on the right) distracts Snowy from the front; Belle usually takes the "tail detail." Snowy looks a lot more ferocious here than he actually is...mostly, he's a bit of a Romeo.

I should have recognized it

I remember now that there's a picture of a Maltese on the spine of my copy of Middlemarch. I'm afraid the poor doggie in the book gets a cool reception from the main character:

Sir James interpreted the heightened color in the way most gratifying to himself, and thought he never saw Miss Brooke looking so handsome.

"I have brought a little petitioner," he said, "or rather, I have brought him to see if he will be approved before his petition is offered." He showed the white object under his arm, which was a tiny Maltese puppy, one of nature's most naive toys.

"It is painful to me to see these creatures that are bred merely as pets," said Dorothea, whose opinion was forming itself that very moment (as opinions will) under the heat of irritation.

"Oh, why?" said Sir James, as they walked forward.

"I believe all the petting that is given them does not make them happy. They are too helpless: their lives are too frail. A weasel or a mouse that gets its own living is more interesting. I like to think that the animals about us have souls something like our own, and either carry on their own little affairs or can be companions to us, like Monk here. Those creatures are parasitic."

"I am so glad I know that you do not like them," said good Sir James. "I should never keep them for myself, but ladies usually are fond of these Maltese dogs. Here, John, take this dog, will you?"

The objectionable puppy, whose nose and eyes were equally black and expressive, was thus got rid of, since Miss Brooke decided that it had better not have been born. But she felt it necessary to explain.

"You must not judge of Celia's feeling from mine. I think she likes these small pets. She had a tiny terrier once, which she was very fond of. It made me unhappy, because I was afraid of treading on it. I am rather short-sighted."
