Hugo Weaving will return as Elrond in The Hobbit!

As I've posted in this thread:

Hugo Weaving WILL return as Elrond in The Hobbit, according to GDT, what he said at 02:10:55, at the Player in this link:

I guess this is news worth starting a thread for, I guess. So what do you all think of this news?

Can't watch~

I dunno if it's because I'm in the US or what but it's not letting me load the video.
What exactly did he say?

And yay! I was hoping Hugo would be involved, I adore him.

This is what he said:

Simon Mayo: "Andy Serkis, he is back.."
Guillermo:" Yes, Ian McKellen is back, and Hugo Weaving as the roles that they originated in the trilogy."

Unlike some message boards like IMDB, newly active threads don't jump to the top around here. Once a thread has fallen off of page one, your best option is usually to start a new one.

since Elrond is in The Hobbit

it was expected that HW would be back. Plus they say they`ll add White Council into the story so more reason for him to return since the role is bigger now. WC should also bring back Cate Blanchett.

GdT has mentioned ...

GdT has mentioned Hugo being in the Hobbit before. He had included Hugo in a few of the early conversations when it’s come to Andy Serkis and Sir Ian.
Here are 2 examples ... but they say the same thing. Smile
I aslo think it was mentioned on the WETA chat but I cant be sure.

Guillermo Del Toro Talks 'Hobbit' Casting, Creatures ...
'Hugo Weaving, Andy Serkis, Ian McKellen — they all must be approached to do the movie,' the director says.
By Josh Horowitz

MTV: Although one character that clearly comes up in the Hobbit is Elrond — Hugo Weaving.
Del Toro: Oh yeah. We have to approach him — of course. Hugo Weaving, Andy Serkis, Ian McKellen — they all must be approached to do the movie.

and I cant imagine the Hobbit without Hugo Elrond Weaving. There would be no one to explain the map! eek! Wink
I'd take my guess and say that he's been approached then .

great to hear...that just jump started my excitement...Evil
really hope Cate is back...I read she said she'd accept if asked...the entire Lothlorien sequence was a definite high point of 'Fellowship' for me...she was THE perfect choice for Galadriel...
hope like heck Christopher Lee & Martin Csokas somehow make the return for the White Council scenes.

A non-grumpy Elrond?

Or will Weaving play him just as grumpy having a house full of Dwarves?

"My hospitality grows *thin*!"

Now all we need is Liv Tyler tra-la-lallying up in the trees.

******************************************
The audacious proposal stirred his heart. And the stirring became a song, and it mingled with the songs of Gil-galad and Celebrian, and with those of Feanor and Fingon. The song-weaving created a larger song, and then another, until suddenly it was as if a long forgotten memory woke and for one breathtaking moment the Music of the Ainur revealed itself in all glory. He opened his lips to sing and share this song. Then he realized that the others would not understand. Not even Mithrandir given his current state of mind. So he smiled and simply said "A diversion.”

Awesome

Really psyched to see so many actors able to return to the roles they played in LOTR. Not only is it good for continuity, but I believe the reverence and respect they brought to their work in LOTR will help inform any new actors cast in The Hobbit as to what is expected of them.

Now it's all about counting the days until we hear about Bilbo, Balin, Thranduil, Beorn, Bard, etc... Can't wait!

I liked grumpy Elrond in FOTR

he was so much fun at the council when Hobbits started popping up and joining the Fellowship. If his Hobbit Eldrond is anything like that, and nothing like daddy-o Elrond of TTT and ROTK, I`ll be a happy camper.

Liv tra-la-laing in the trees, lmao. And running about the tree with Aragorn. But in all seriousness, her voice is angelic. I found her tra-la-laing more suitable for LOTR than Enya and especially Annie Lennox`s tra-lal-laing.

I think they'll have the opposite problem.

Trying to pad the script out for two movies.

Still wondering though...

If this news was leaked on purpose by GdT, giving us every now and then a name of an actor that will play in The Hobbit to keep us happy and entertained, or was this a slip of the tongue??

Not silly at all

I think that recasting Elrond would have been greatly disrespectful to Hugo Weaving's protrayal of the character. But, instead of bringing Mr. Weaving back, they could have written the part out entirely and had Gandalf read the map. I just wanted to point out that Hugo Weaving wasn't the lock that some people might think (until now, of course).

Forgive me, I didn't mean to target your post in particular. I probably should have posted to the original post. Blush

... if he meant to say those three actors reprising their roles is simply his intention? I would love to hear some elaboration on that statement that says "Hugo Weaving, Andy Serkis and Ian McKellan have all signed contracts to reprise their roles".

Guillermo did say they would be back - so I hope that it does mean they were wined, dined, signed and ready to be divine .... Smile

It depends on how GdT defines "iconic moments"

GdT has stated that every "iconic moment" will be in the films. If he defines "iconic moments" the same way that I do, they won't have any trouble filling two films.

Bravo.

And it's not exactly like this was gonna be a surprise, folks? Now having Chrstopher Lee signed would be nice! If they do, I hope that Guillermo is filming these out of sequence like LOTR was, and there is a way for Lee's scenes to be among the first ones filmed, and in London. I don't think the studio would have a problem with that.
*Praying for the 10th time that Lee will be up to the job, and the Good Lord watch over him*

How will GdT announce the Cast?

So now we know HW is back in The Hobbit, and the actor playing Bilbo Baggins will be announced in a few weeks, I wonder how GdT will announce the other actors that will play in The Hobbit. Will he announce them all at once, or only one at a time? And if announced one at a time, how much time should be between the announcement of two actors? A week, two weeks, a month? If GdT would announce them one at a time, that would be so much more fun, because then we could discuss the actor he announced, and at the same time enjoy and look forward to the next actor he will announce. If they are all announced at once, it certainly would be really enjoyable at that moment, but afterwards there's not much more news he can share with us I guess. and everyone's attention might fade away a little.Or maybe they might pick up my idea about using Twitter for their experiences in the process of filming The Hobbit, so theré will be almost every day some news to enjoy, as you can read in this thread:

possible other movie casting announced on Twitter

Apparently, beautiful Lynne Collins said on Twitter "celebrating John Carter of Mars!!!!" and now many online news pages are taking this as very likely casting news for Martian Princess Dejah Toris (Miss Collins certainly looks the part). Since her Twitter leak came at the same time with offical Pixar announcement that the movie will resume filming in Utah this November, the likehood of actual casting news is very high. Therefore, whether GDT and PJ will use Twitter for news broadcast or not, watch that space, some happy actor may yell the secret for online comunity to see.

It had to be.

A no-brainer, really. Elrond's first appeared in The Hobbit, and he's ageless, so he'd hardly have changed much by the time of LOTR, meaning the same actor can easily play the slightly younger version. Glad to have Weaving basically confirmed, in any case.

And here we find you, smoking and...feasting!
