Big FOTR music event - Oct 09: Concert & Book Release

This has just been posted at Doug Adams' blog. In case it be lost amongst the information let me tease out and bold this item first:

Tickets Go On-Sale Friday, December 19th at Noon

To read the full entry, go here: http://themusicofthelordoftheringsfilms.blogspot.com/2008/12/fotr-live-radio-city-music-hall-oct-9.html

Concert:
  • FOTR score performed live to the movie (theatrical edition)
  • Radio City Music Hall
  • Oct 9 & 10, 2009 (Columbus Day weekend)
  • Switzerland’s 21st Century Orchestra, under the baton of Maestro Ludwig Wicki
  • The Collegiate Chorale, the Brooklyn Youth Chorus, and vocal soloist Kaitlyn Lusk
  • Shore will introduce each evening’s performances, in a pre-concert lecture with Doug Adams, author of The Music of the Lord of the Rings Films
  • Shore (and I'm guessing Adams) will be available to greet fans at additional events scheduled throughout the weekend.
Book Release:
  • Doug writes:
Although we still have some details to work out it's not yet official, the current plan is to release both The Music of the Lord of the Rings Films book and The Master Box box set--including The Rarities Archives--at this event. And yes, we intend to do so in high style... with a little long expected release party!

For more information on the book/rarities releases, see this forum post or this home page article.

I wonder if Mr. Cere is perhaps hinting at this in the Moot section of the forum.

I should have provided this in the original post. I was just a little too excited.

*splutters in anger*

At myself and Radio City, not TORn or TORnsibs or anyone else . . .

I missed that part on the homepage article, about box office tickets going on sale "beginning on the second day of sale at the Garden and Music Hall Box Office" -- and I don't see anything about this on the Radio City site, which just says tickets go on sale today. Went slip-sliding over there in the icy slush (almost fell twice) through hordes of slow-moving tourists, only to be told I can't buy tickets until tomorrow. Grrr . . .

Sorry, just venting. Very annoyed. Mad Mad Mad

Which day?

Which of the two days are you planning to buy for? I know TORnados can't all sit together but it would be fun to Fellowship before and/ or after.

I am definitely planning to be there BTW. 8)

Interesting.

People at Doug's blog are reported having obtained their tickets.

I was out yesterday in slush and I was so tried of the slippery stuff by the end of the day I could just have screamed.

the storms of Caradhras will not stay my hand....

....from handing over my hard earned cash to my local Ticketmaster store tomorrow morning.....I had my New School graduation ceremony at Radio City, and have seen concerts there from Rush to Indigo Girls....this will be a fantastic historical multimedia event, I'm sure fans worldwide want tix....having seen the LOTR symphony, with Howard introducing it, I can only imagine how great this will be!

Can TT, ROTK....and then The Hobbit symphonies be far behind??? Seriously, Shore's music has had sellout crowds and given orchestras work, when the audience for classical has been dying out, at least in some areas of the U.S.

this will ROCK....will post when I have my tix in hand....

They must've bought online.

I could do that too, but I figured the fees would be less if I went to the box office. Tomorrow I'll either try the box office again, or just be lazy and buy online. Maybe I'll see how slippery it is out.

Though if TORnsibs are going on another night, that would be fine too. Which night are you planning to go?

But maybe by the time it actually comes around... but by then I'm sure the tickets will be gone.
Darn... Why can't they have cool stuff like this where I live? Crazy

Legs....

Yes, Rush did their 30th Anniversary show at Radio City, several hours of their best, including Peart's drum solo, where you'd think he had more than four limbs.....

I remember I did see the Rockettes there at a Christmas show perhaps? Radio City is fantastic....

*mournful graon* No way to get there

but omg what a fabulous event! I'm really sad about having to wait long for the release. First Harry Potter moves from November 08 to July 09; Doug's work moved an entire year away; our "announcement" for The Hobbit/Film2 at the end of the year/Christmas... all such a torment. I'm beginning to develop a lack of trust when it comes to promised production dates.

But I've already started a "Doug Adams Piggy Bank" to prepare for his expanded achievement. *twitch* This is going to be so extremely good!!! :D

Thanks Magpie!

*Sigh*

My finances are not enough to accomodate both this and U2s upcoming tour, which I've been trying to save up for, for the past year....(and they just announced their new album's name and release date)...so I will not be able to get tix to the event itself...

BUT....will there be a way to meet Mr. Shore and Doug Adams regardless of that? That's my dream, it's been for the past 7 yrs....Unsure Are all these events right after the performances.... or are they seperate events that will be open to the public free of charge, or cheaper, anyway.
I don't mind missing the performance per se (the ROTK score is my favorite and that's the Symphony I am really waiting for....well... who am I kidding...... Sly I'll die to go to any one of these....)

In any case, I would love to meet all sibs who are going....I have yet to meet anyone from TORN...it's a short and easy trip for me down there....just 3 hrs...and if I can't get in the building, could I give something to one of you for him to sign for me?!?

*heart breaking, This has been my dream but cannot go....to meet Shore anyway........I got to meet Doug Jones though, that was one of my 2 dreams, so anything is possible....

(and BTW, I have just been too tired to finish the account of that meeting I tried to put up in OT a while back...so if anyone wants an account, and pics, just PM me)

Why in New York and why just in the weekend after RingCon. I can't combine the two, and I already have tickets for RingCon. Unsure I would have loved to come to New York, see the performance and meet sibs. Oh well, maybe another time. Me too!

I got lazy and bought them online as I didn't want to go slip-sliding over to the box office again. Mad Crazy

Apparently seats aren't exactly going like hotcakes as good seats are still available, especially if you have a gold AmEx card, which I do. I had been planning to cancel it last month (before getting billed the annual fee) and totally forgot, and now I'm glad I forgot. Now I can feel lucky instead of stupid. Cool

I thought it was funny that it asked if I want express shipping on the tickets. Yeah, I'm really worried about getting them in time. Tongue Laugh

At some point, we should probably move to the Moot section

I will say my heart greatly desires this thing. I have talked to dear hub and he doesn't think it's unreasonable. I have traveled extensively by car all over the US but only short trips by plane and the thought of being in NYC frankly frightens me a little. I am holding off on a decision for a short time but I'd love to pick brains about traveling to NYC at some point.

I will be torn in two (no pun intended) about mooting. The soundtrack segment (at Doug's site) is getting semi-organized too.

Got my tix! Saturday night....

I spent two bucks and saved $23 in Ticketmaster charges but jumping on the subway and going to Radio City....got the same row I was seeing on Ticketmaster....Orchestra JJ....that's close....these were $84 each I think.....I only hope I can see all the performers and are now down too low....those in the first mezzanine will have a great view and hear it well too. The sound at Radio City is great....

am surprising my sister with a ticket, she plays viola and has performed LOTR music with some crack orchestras....we've seen Shore's LOTR symphony but this should be even better with the actual movie....

I'm sure tix will sell the closer we get to the concert date! It was cold and icy (still is) but I walked around and saw the tree at Rockefeller Center and saw a couple get engaged on the skating rink as the crowd cheered....there were two little old men in front of me yelling "zeez iz good news!" It was like watching Aragorn and Arwen with two old Tooks.....ok, perhaps in my mind...lol.

Oh dangit...resistance is futile:)

I have changed my mind and decided that I really, really, REALLY want to go to this, not just meet you all. Problem: I have 1) just finished moving and am low on funds in the first place, and 2) I was going to use the $100 I had saved for U2, for a ticket...I don't have time to check the site, but considering the venue, I know even the cheapest ones are a LOT more than that....
(who cares, the U2 tickets can wait...I'll manage that somehow!)

(am off to work and in a hurry)...but the money had to go just last night for storm related funds.to help a friend who was without power. let's see...we had an epic Ice Storm last week that was so bad that a state of emergency was declared in 2 states-NY and Mass.-- and we've gotten Federal Disaster Aid. Lucky I didn't lose power though, though today some people in rural areas are *still* without power....
Friday we got almost a foot of snow, we are beginning another day-long storm right now and--no lie--are supposed to get another storm Christmas Eve.
The downtown area, with all the 19th-century architecture, looks beautiful in the blizzard right now.

Excuse the rambling post. But I have to leave in 5 minutes (running late this morning) and don't have time to write....I was going to PM some people on this but really truly do NOT have time...

.what I want to ask is...since I am broke right now, is there a way ANYBODY can get me a ticket and I can pay them for it, via "installment plan"?SmileSmile

This is a once in a lifeitme thing and this stuff NEVER comes my way. I am determined not to miss this. Once a few years ago, I missed out on Springsteen tickets--they sold out--but via the Backstreets exchange on his website, I got a ticket from someone the same way.
And you wouldn;t have to send me the ticket, until you get all the funds.:)

Please excuse this, but I really am suddenly broke right now, and am afraid it will sell out very soon. And I don't care where I am in the building, as long as I get in--I don't care if I am up in the balcony in the last row, away from you guys..though being with a sibbie would be nice. But that's OK....

(Whoever the Mod. is, right now, please excuse this post. I don't mean to be putting a post like this "in public" but like I said, I really have to run, I was origionally planning to PM a few people but don't have time.
If it isn't TORN "policy" , just give me a pass this once, OK? I hope you'll undertsand.:)

I have to work late tonight and won't be able to cjeck back until late tonight or tomorrow morning...but if anyone can help, I'd appreciate it...:)

I might actually do this!

I read this post rather wistfully, and went to mourn to my friend about this unattendable event, and she gave me a puzzled look, and asked why the heck I couldn't go. So, I pointed out that it was in New York, and I'd be in college in Texas, and she pointed out that I've got a job, and means of saving money, and it's Columbus Day weekend.

Anyway, I was kind of inspired to ask my dad about this, who said that it'd be fine if I went, and I didn't really need his permission, since I'd kind of be living away from home, anyway. I spent two days alone in France before (it improved my French, if nothing else), so I don't really think he has any problem with me going to this.

I'm almost afraid to post this, in case something changes, and I end up not going, but as of now, I'm planning on buying a ticket for Saturday sometime this week. *nervous giggle*

Doug kind of reassured me that he didn't think a quick sell out was an issue because of the size of the venue. Additionally, someone in this thread (can't remember who at the moment) said they weren't flying off the shelf.

That was me.

I looked at tickets when they first went on sale, and then about 30 hours later, and IIRC no more than a few rows had sold in that time. This was true in all price categories. I didn't make note of exact ticket numbers or anything though.

Plus as you point out, this is a big venue, and there are two nights. And it's almost a year away! With the economy the way it is, most people (myself included) don't know where they'll be living or working in Oct. 2009, so it's difficult to even think about making plans.

I figured it was you...

But it was so much work to open up another tab and navigate to the post to find out. :-)

Doug hinted that a third concert could get arranged if these two sold out, as well.

I bought two tickets - 1st mezzanine, Row D, seats 505-506

I have no idea if I can go, but didn't want to miss the chance!

Each cloak was fastened about the neck with a brooch like a green leaf veined with silver.
`Are these magic cloaks?' asked Pippin, looking at them with wonder.
`I do not know what you mean by that,' answered the leader of the Elves.

I love it!

It wouldn't have occurred to me to put those two melodies together, but it works great. I love mashups. Smile

Thanks for the link. I really should check that blog more often, but there's too much other internet out there.

I can picture that.

Somehow she'd step out of the barrel looking as elegant as ever, and we'd all be standing around trying to figure out why she doesn't look bedraggled. Tongue Laugh

I just won my $3000 court case today, so now I will DEFINITELY be there =)

Woot! I was relieved that they are not flying off the shelves. My ticket will be for Saturday night if I can manage it.

The 3 of us have Orch#5 Row GG 505-507-geez we went for it.\\

"Tolkien, like Lewis, believed that, through story, the real world would become a more magical place, full of meaning. We see its patterns and colors in a fresh way. The recovery of a true view of the world applies both to individual things, like hills and stones, and to the cosmic - the depths of space and time itself. For in sub-creation, in Tolkien's view, there is a "survey" of space and time. Reality is captured on a miniature scale. Through stories like The Lord of the Rings, a renewed view of things is given, illuminating the homely, the spiritial, the physical, and the moral dimensions of the world."

Tolkien and C.S. Lewis- The Gift of Friendship -Duriez

May the grace of Manwë let us soar with eagle's wings!

In the air, among the clouds in the sky
Here is where the birds of Manwe fly
Looking at the land, and the water that flows
The true beauty of earth shows
With the stars of Varda lighting my way
In all the realms this is where I stay
In the realm of Manwë Súlimo
