Screencap of the Day Sign-Up for ROTK

Screencap of the Day was created by canadanthony many years ago. Mortae restarted it after he had left the boards and I've taken it over now that Mortae has gone. It depends on volunteers to lead for one week, posting an image three times for discussion.

This week we are moving on to Return of the King. In just 106 short weeks we will have finished the movie trilogy.

We now have Magpie's fantastic image guide! You can learn how to post images HERE.

We need a total of 5 volunteers--Choose 1 week to volunteer (each person does 3 days-Mon, Wed, Fri-of screencaps)

Week of June 30
June 30-1 Screencap from
Part 1
July 2-1 Screencap from
Part 2
July 4-1 Screencap from
Part 3
Week of July 7 --
July 7-1 Screencap from
Part 4
July 9-1 Screencap from
Part 5
July 11-1 Screencap from

Week of July 14 --
July 14-1 Screencap from
Part 7
July 16-1 Screencap from
Part 8
July 18-1 Screencap from
Part 9
Week of July 21
July 21-1 Screencap from
Part 10
July 23-1 Screencap from
Part 11
July 25-1 Screencap from Part 12
Week of July 28
July 28-1 Screencap from
Part 13
July 30-1 Screencap from
Part 14
August 1-1 Screencap from Part 15

Anyone who wants to help, just familiarize yourself with the website, http://www.framecaplib.com/lotrlib.htm. Bookmark this site, if you wish.

Each person will be assigned a part, seen at the top of the screen or at the left margin. For your days, choose the most evocative screencap in the part; you have 24 to choose from in each part. Copy the link of the cap and post it in your thread or post the image if you're more technically inclined, with the subject labeled "Screencap of the Day."

Keep the questions brief! These are not scene discussions! Three or four should do. The first question should be strictly reflective (i.e. What did you first think/feel when you saw this scene?). The second should be a technical aspect of the scene (cinematography, editing, score, art direction, etc). The third question should be a miscellaneous one, perhaps a controversial question you remember us discussing at one point. Remember these are just suggestions. Feel free to change these if you want, but remembering the brevity, as these will be featured every other day, so people may get bored if the questions require or spur lengthy answers.

Magpie has been kind enough to provide us with a great step-by-step guide to posting images. TORn Image Guide

And as always, if you have any questions, feel free to ask me here or PM me. I'm happy to help.

Thanks!

Week of June 30th

I really want to do this part, but I'm going on vacation on Thursday, would it be alright if I make my posts a day earlier (last one being late Wednesday)?

"WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN"

Did you ever wish certain moments from LOTR could've made it to the screen? Have you ever imagined what would have happened if all of the original writings from the script actually made it to the films? Well, "What Could Have Been" is the right discussion for you! Starting this summer will be a series of topics about what could have been in "The Lord of the Rings Trilogy". Be on the lookout, and be sure to join in on the fun!

No problem, One Ringer

As long as you take care of all three posts, I don't think it will be a problem if they're early. The week of June 30th is all yours! Thanks and have fun on your vacation!

Comment about images.

First, thanks to Arwen's daughter for leading this discussion and to everyone who hosts.

And, thanks to Arwen's daughter for pointing out the new image posting guide.

I would like to reiterate a comment I made in this post which became a sticky. I tend to overlook new posts when they're sticky and I'm not sure if everyone caught it. I'm going to basically copy that post here in this thread for those who might have missed it.

After I was declared the go-to-gal on the movie board for image posting help, I decided it would be easier to write it all down in one place for reference rather than answering each individual question. Well, some of you know how obsessive I am. It developed into quite a little website. Altaira's looked it over and we're ready to go live.

Torn Image Posting Guide

I've put a link in my footer.

I've made a few general comments in my announcement on Feedback that might bear reading but I wanted to touch two aspects here (since we post an insane number of images! :P )

Size:
When I first started the image posting tutorial, the footer images had a maximum size and a preferred size. In this post, Ataahua said that images embedded into the body of a post should conform to those guidelines. Since then, Altaira has changed the guidelines for footers (converting the preferred size to the maximum size). But the original sizes are still in place for embedded images.

Maximum Size for an image embedded in a post is 480 pixels by 360 pixels and 50 KB.

These boxes are the maximum size:

-------

Preferred size for images embedded in a post is 240 pixels by 180 pixels and 50 KB

These boxes are preferred size:

-------

For screenshots that are long, I tend to do 450 px wide. If I wish to focus in on an area, or
have a more squarish picture, I probably do a little larger than preferred size.

Hotlinking:
Just an additional gentle reminder that hotlinking is bad.

For more information, you can check out the thread on Feedback or the website.

I'll take the week of July 14

I've got a crazy-busy summer going on, but if sibbies don't mind a hit or miss on me getting back after posting, I'm game :D

Thanks lots Arwen's daughter. I'm so glad you've taken this under your wing. *applause* And thanks also to Magpie for giving us a good, solid foothold on how to share our images the best way while still supporting how it affects the boards. I've been using this ever since she posted it :)

That guide is FANtastic!

I've gone through my life here thinking I really understood the boundaries and references to everything, but this has me doing a double-take on some. AWESOME! I'll be sure to follow it closely my week of posting and beyond!

Thanks so much Magpie :)

ha! who would have thought it?

We need a waiting list for discussion leaders!

At times in the past, we could only get folks to lead with chocolate cake bribes!

See what a new Hobbit movie can do for you???

Isn't it great!

Less than 24 hours to enlist 5 volunteers. Some months we could actually be starting the new wave of discussions before all of the slots were full. I'm glad to see everyone so enthusiastic this month! Thanks guys!! Smile
