watching paint dry appreciation society: fwd look spreadsheet

So sorry. I couldn't resist Felagund's, who predicts several thousand hits, suggestion to create a control study of site traffic.

some conclusions we could draw!

  • There are a lot of drying paint enthusiasts on TORn. In which case, there is probably great disappointment that I teased a spreadsheet but haven't delivered.

  • Not mutually exclusive to the above, the word has got out on the Interwebway that TORn is where keen observers of drying paint can get their fix. See above for the spreadsheet disappointment world we're now in.

  • TORn is the subject of a botfest. Including bots who love drying paint.

    Demo Spreadsheet

I prefer the first option as the funniest.

Felagund's prediction is being proved correct with this thread already, surprisingly, or not, close to 50% of traffic's read count.

Most Rings of Power threads don't have that readership.

    Detective Work

Whoever is doing this (if such is the case) appears to have begun shortly after March 1st. Speaking of The Rings of Power, check out the thread "Rings of Power was Written by Aliens Posted on 9 September 2024 by Sørina Higgins":

Posts 51+ were on the final page where several posts were added during the second week of March.

    There's a 4th possibility

A mischievous TornSib has written a web scraper specifically to mess with your control post.

Would any such TornSib be so mischievous? Would I? Evil

(No I didn't, but maybe only because I didn't see this thread until it already had 26K views...)

Happiness: money matters, but less than we think and not in the way that we think. Family is important and so are friends, while envy is toxic -- and so is excessive thinking. Beaches are optional. Trust is not. Neither is gratitude. - The Geography of Bliss by Eric Weiner as summarized by Lily Fairbairn. And a bit of the Hobbit reading thrown in never hurts. - NottaSackville

Well, honestly, it is. I just couldn't find

any pics of intent TORnsibs studying this thread.Angelic
Perhaps we'll need a new forum. So many possibilities, in all possible genres, including Story and Song.

If it is the last, we should

take this opportunity as World Citizens to create a program that would inject Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics into their software.

Despite its initial surge, the bots seem to have lost interest in this thread.

    If bots they be,

perhaps my idea of infecting them with Asimov's Laws worked, and they've moved on to Aid Mankind, seeing we're self-sufficient here, and not worth bot-hering about.
