The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim vs Rings Of Power: Face Time

Screen Rant's January 2, 2024 article leads with this click-bait headline and subtitle:

Quote
2024's New Lord Of The Rings Movie Is A Slap In The Face For Rings Of Power Season 2

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim steps on the toes of Prime Video's existing prequel and has a better chance for public approval.

Then continues:

Quote
2024 will see the release of the movie The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, and this is quite a slap in the face for Prime Videos' The Lord of the Rings: The Ring of Power season 2.

It's quite the ironic title, and calls to mind a quote from "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home."

Rings Of Power did quite a lot of face slapping for the writer to set this from Amazon's [voice of Obiwan] certain point of view.

The writer includes this caution in the article::

Quote
What's more, Helm Hammerhand's story was only briefly explored by Tolkien, so War of the Rohirrim will have much more wiggle room any way. So long as characters like Gandalf aren't brought in, the 2024 movie should do fine.

The writer implies, perhaps unwittingly, that it was a mistake to include Gandalf in Rings of Power. Many of you had the same concern, but about Gandalf being on Middle-earth in the Second Age. The writer seems confused. Gandalf has more right and justification to be in the movie than the TV show. I'd love a little Ian McKellen in the anime movie.

Evidence

Look how bleak the landscape is for content (or even information generally) being produced and digested in the modern digital hellscape. I saw somewhere that someone has coined the phrase "anti-fan" to describe the current climate and I think it's right on target

Your post is a just a tithe. The internet is awash with combative clickbate. That's because it works.

In reality no one is slapping anyone's face.

"So which story do you prefer?"
"The one with the tiger. That's the better story."
"Thank you. And so it goes with God."

Gandalf Should be Otherwise Occupied

Gandalf has no place in the story because he should be in Eriador aiding the Shire-hobbits through the Long Winter. Likewise Saruman does not seem to intervene in the war, although he does receive permission from Steward Beren of Gondor to settle in Isengard in the year 2759 after the war concludes.

Perfectly timed release, if rumours are true

Isn't it rumoured that RoP season 2 will introduce Felaróf and the mearas? Wouldn't that mean we'd see Calenardhon become Rohan?

If we see the beginnings of Rohan at the end of season 2 then that's a perfect time for audiences to jump into War of the Rohirrim as a supplement to the story, rather than competition against it.

Rumors and Rumors of Rumors

As intended, all rumors have been put into doubt by the recent Fellowship of the Fans statement linked to in the "Amazon Releasing and Spreading False ROP Rumors" topic. It's like a giant reset of the rumor mill.

I really hope that this was one of those false rumors started and spread intentionally by Amazon. But, you're right that the timing would be fortunate for the release of the film!
