He's in brown plaid here. (more pics here, and here.)

At PJ's walk of fame ceremony, he was in blue plaid.

And we know that red plaid he wore in the BTS.

Would he be in plaid for the US premiere? Any bets on the colour?

Norway has come with two so far now that are incredibly positive.

They highlight Lee Pace as Thranduil and compliments the character for being far more layered than what we are used to in the elves. Loving that he's far less kind than we know elves for.

What they were saying in Elvish [In reply to]

So, I've been obsessively replaying the part of the interview where they speak elvish and comparing it to the clips from the movies that are online to see if I can figure out what lines they're using. (I have time to do that now that I'm on vacation!Wink) As far as I can tell, It sounds like the first couple of things EL says are the first bit of the elvish lines from the scene where Tauriel heals Kili. OB is definitely using his line from FOTR where he's talking Haldir on the flets in Lothlorien, and I *think* LP is stealing a line from the scene in DOS where Leggy carries out Thranduil's orders to close the boarders and uses Elvish to tell the guards to close the front gate.

Quote
but old grumpy man seem to be his anthem for the Elvenking eh? Tongue

Lol, as fabulous as Thranduil is, I think I can see where LP is coming from the grumpy old man analogy. It seems consistent with how Tolkien's elves are that the older they get, the more likely they are to get tired of the world and its many imperfections. It really is just like how some humans may allow themselves to become grumpy as they get older, only elves lives just keep getting older and older and their grumpiness is more likely to come from becoming jaded with because of their long lives as opposed to grumpiness caused by physical struggles that come with age.

IMO, one of the most interesting things LP touched on in the interview was what he said about facing death causing one to start looking for love and meaning. Along with his comment about all the years Thranduil spent underground thinking about "the diamonds" I interpenetrate what he said as possibly having something to do with his relationship with Legolas.

Knowing what we know about Thranduil, he's truly spent hundreds if not thousands of years keeping his kingdom pretty much frozen in time. According to LP he's spent a lot of that time obsessing over the loss of his wife's necklace, and we've also heard that although Leggy adores his father, Thranduil has for all intents and purposes forgotten about nurturing the relationship with his living, breathing son because of his obsession with the necklace of his dead wife. I really, really hope that this new comment about facing death causing Thranduil to think about finding love and meaning means that we're going to actually see a better relationship start growing between him and Legolas. Maybe that could even be part of the healing that fulfills the Fisher King story arc.

"The skies don't seem to be as dark as usual
The stars seem brighter than they've been before
And deep within I feel my soul is stirring
As though my hope has been restored.

The shepherds say they've heard the voice of angels
Confirming rumors spread across the land
That a child protected well from Herod's anger
Is our Father's Son and the Son of Man.

Love is raining down on the world tonight
There's a presence here I can tell
God is in us, God is for us, God is with us, Emanuel."
