P.S. [In reply to] Can't Post

My big fold-out map of Rohan/Gondor shows a river flowing from the N. Mts. of Shadow thru Henneth Annun to just below Cair Andros.

Hmmm, thoughts?

NOT! [In reply to] Can't Post

I’ve been a Tolkienophile for 45 years, yet I’m still but a lowly Gondorian while you (being the most knowledgeable Tolkien-newbie I can think of) are a Tol Eressean.

Is there no justice? Mad
Is Eressean a word? Crazy

You no doubt will take the lead should I ever finish… Unsure

Wow! [In reply to] Can't Post

Good question. I believe it's actually the Redhorn Gate. Are there any inns in Minas Tirith? I have to admit defeat on this one. What is the name of the ruined town that sits by the Grey flood, several hundred leagues south of the Shire?

Yes, it's Redhorn Gate OR Redhorn Pass [In reply to] Can't Post

I was never quite sure why Tolkien called a pass over a mountain “a gate”….

Yes there was an “inn” in Minas Tirith – The Old Guesthouse. I don’t know if it served mead, and could then be considered another “tavern” or if it was just a rooming house.

The town would be Tharbad. In the mid to late Third Age there was also a ford across the Greyflood although I don’t think it was ever called the Ford of Tharbad. This is where Boromir lost his horse in his quest for Imladris.

Give two names for the stone monoliths that lie on either side of the Anduin just north of Nen Hithoel…..

Very good Faramir [In reply to] Can't Post

Also called the Pillars of the Kings or Gates of the Kings.

The rapids are Sarn Gebir.

Name the battering ram that broke the Great Gate of Minas Tirith and its length.

Ok, this is getting out of hand! [In reply to] Can't Post

Which often happens when Darkstone’s rind arrives. (Is that rind or mind? – nope rind will do.) But welcome anyhoo! Smile

Faramir, yes Grond is correct. But there was also an original Grond which was the mace of Morgoth. It was known as the “Hammer of the Underworld”. I don’t think Grond the battering ram was called such.
Grond the ram was 100’ long with an iron head shaped like a wolf.

BF, I don’t know of any other name for Radagast than Radagast the Brown (unless you’re delving movie-wise which I would have blocked?). But I believe he has a Quenya name somewhere which translates to lover of birds? Maybe some of the woodland creatures like foxes and such called him “Rad”? Cool

How many names for THE Ring can you think of? I can come up w/ 7 but I know there are more…..

I thought we were going off-the-head. Anyway my 7th was Master Ring. too

And fudging here too…Frown
There’s also “The Ring of Doom” (I remember this from the song in the Bakshi cartoon?)
Ring of Rings
The Great Ring
The Burden

I suppose more could be made up, but it gets a little silly – eh?
