Happy 15, TORn! [In reply to] Can't Post

I would not be where I am now in my life without TORn to help me along the way. My experiences earlier this year in New Zealand I chalk up partially to you guys. It will be 10 years for me later this summer... it has been a wonderful time.

Sir Richard also gives his regards :)

NARF since age 8, when I refused to read the Hobbit because the cover looked boring and icky.

Glad to be back home. [In reply to] Can't Post

I had an encounter with a cyclist this morning who thought I had driven too close to him. Not content with waving me down and yelling at me through my open window, he actually opened my car door to continue yelling at me. I had to use both hands to wrench it closed again. I was a shaking mess afterwards.

Which is why I'm having a cream doughnut for lunch.

Oh... I had some great news! [In reply to] Can't Post

I mentioned some weeks ago that my Brother and 2 Sisters and I were being tested to see if any of us were bonemarrow/blood matches for our eldest Sister (she has MDS-cancer). I recently found out I'm a match! :D So we're waiting for her to return to Michigan from wintering in Arizona to talk with the doctors and get things going. It's a wonderful blessing considering her first prognosis would have her not with us now... let alone well enough to qualify for a transplant!

Register with the National Blood Donor bank... you never know who it could help :)

Wow, something similar happened to me the other day [In reply to] Can't Post

but the cyclist just stopped in the middle of the road and glared at me. That's pretty horrible that person actually opened your car door to yell at you. Totally get how that would make you shaky. Hope the cream doughnut helped.

Frightening. [In reply to] Can't Post

But I am glad to hear you are ok now - was the cream doughnut tasty?

Cyclists can be very intimidating. I had the same experience about 4 years ago.

My worse experience, mind, and the only time I've thought "well this is me over" was about 6 years ago. I was walking home at about 11pm at night down an alleyway. A cyclist came towards me with a hood over his head. He passed me, but I suddenly heard his brakes. Before I knew it he was in front of my again, blocking my way. He then asked if I could help him, and he rummaged in his bag. That's when I thought "well this is me over". Then he pulled out a piece of paper and asked for directions. I must have let out the biggest sigh of relief when he carried on his way.

I had something similar happen. [In reply to] Can't Post

The cyclist decided he needed to intimidate me when we got to a stoplight and reached through my open window for me. I closed the window on his arm and then the light changed so I took off. I opened the window just enough to let his arm go. My little Escort could go faster than him and I lost him at the next turn but I don't think he was going to do anything after that.

I reported it and it turns out there was a very aggressive speaker at a local cycling club meeting the week before telling cyclists to stand up for their road rights. This particular zealot follower was seeking out confrontation.
