*Also loves Thorin as in channeling Bella Swan / Katniss Everdeen and up for a love triangle.

Lee Pace with that blonde wig is the closest thing to an angel in the history of cinema. They did a great job with his costume and make up. And Lee Pace is a great actor, he totally dominates the scenes with that elven grace and sense of inner strength and old age. I love how they portrayed Thranduil overall, it's a lot like I imagined him in the book. My favourite scene with him is the first time you see him, the close-ups of his eyes, crown, staff and jewellery... it's just so beautiful.


I do hope there's more Thranduil in the EE. I would love to see a scene with him and Legolas where they are more gentle towards each other.


I can't wait to see Thranduil in BoFA. He looked amazing in that elven armour we saw in the vlog

You used the perfect word down there to describe him. One I have used around too. Mesmerizing! Captivating. I found myself unable to take my eyes off him when I first saw the movie because there were all these tiny small changes to his expression that was perfect.

My very favorite moment was when the camera zoomed in on him when Thorin shouted at him. His face going from shocked and almost hurt like expression to a fraction of a second you see a sneer before he's in Thorin's face.

I just loved the hurt look on his face because I didn't expect to see it. This stone cold elf suddenly showing all these emotions.

Lee Pace is amazing though so I wasn't surprised that I loved him. Such a versatile actor. I mean, to even think that this is the same guy that is the adorable pie maker in Pushing Daisies? It's unheard of!

Most of the words have been already used to describe the king of the woodland realm...majestic, mesmerising, mystical etc. I've never known any character to have this effect on me before...those eyes, that presence the way he talks and the way he walks, I haven't been a teenager for many a long year but I am in awe of him everytime he's on screen. I can't wait to see TABA because I love the hobbit films but would be a liar if I didn't have an alterior motive for watching it. Well done Lee Pace and Peter Jackson for nailing it..couldn't get a better Elf King. I want to see him and what he can do in battle we've seen what his son can do, so what can we expect from the king (he took off the orc prisoners head in a blink of an eye with his sword) I think he will be awesome! I like his son Legolas, I love watching him in action even though he can be a little OTT at times but he must have taken after his mothers side cos although he is cool he is certainly no 'chip of the old block'.

I like how our first glimpse of him (in DOS) comes in the form of these little snap-shots of his character; the bejeweled fingers, the crown and then the eyes.

Now I can leave for work happy, with thoughts of Thranduil in my head.

There's only ONE King!

That's really what it comes down to, his eyes! They are just amazing. When he talks about the gems and they take on that sparkle/gleam --love that part!

While Thorin is "my man" (dwarf... whatever) and has been for years (well, RA has at any rate), Thranduil IS pretty impressive. He is what I always imagine male elves to be like when I am reading the books. Lee Pace is plays him very majestically, in his own way and is completely convincing imo The Elves are a little too androgynous for my taste- think it must be an age thing... I would definitely have been a Thranduilite in my 20's and early 30's

Thranduil first turned my head when the trailers came out, and his deliciously rich, smooth, velvety voice came out on the voice-over. I was hooked with the voice before I saw the face. The whole package is amazing. LP's height adds the final touches as he towers over everyone else.

I've taken an interest in LP's work since June of last year, and have enjoyed The Fall and Pushing Daisies in particular. I have to say his English accent has greatly improved since he filmed Miss Pettigrew Lives For a Day, where it sometimes veered between Northern English with a hint of Scottish! As an English person, I find his accent in DOS more than passes muster! I noticed in in the B-Roll online video that he was still pronouncing 'endure' with an American accent, but had swapped the pronunciation for a perfect English one for the final take.

Happy to be among fellow Thranduil appreciators!

For TABA
- fighting... YEAAAH.. but please no weird-PJ-fighting (Legolas surfing down the stairs & the Mumakil).. more the Aragorn-fighting style
- the reaction when Bilbo gives him the necklace.. Awww.. I literally can see the gaze.. *drools*
- if Legolas calls him Ada I will be f**** freaking out in the cinema, really

Im soooo totally into this "Ada" thing.. and the gorgeous fanart on tumblr does not help, either

Because I think there's a lot of T & L fans on this thread. Personally I'm a [friendly] lurker in that until Thranduil appeared my attitude toward elves was "eh". And as a Thorin Thrall if someone's going to dis the Mountain King they had better be something special, which I found Thranduil to be. Not that I wouldn't have laughed if Thorin head-butt Thranduil, but seriously Thranduil to me is the epitome of every elven king leader-of-the-wild-hunt folklore story I have ever read. The Fisher King indeed.

So while I don't have raging objections to Legolas and Tauriel (at the moment) there IS only a limited amount of screen time. So, I'll say it - to me these two pale in comparison. For me anyway.
Think Legolas in particular is suffering in comparison to his daddy. And while my attitude is there can NEVER be too much Thorin and dwarves, assuming there's going to be elves, I want lots and lots of Thranduil, and save T & L stuff for the EE version.

But I figure elf lovers by default have more right to say than anyone. On the other hand, for me, I'd rather see the Mirkwood elves than spend a lot of time at Dol Guldur.

So.. let's come to things I'm really looking forward

for the EE
- I want to see the interaction between Legolas and Thranduil, the scene from the B-rolls, where both are standing & it looks like if they have an argument. I think *possible spoilers* that Legolas did not rush immediately after Tauriel out of the palace but went to his dad to report that Tauriel went missing and tries to convince him, that he can join her (or he + other elves should join and aid).

Reasons why I think so:
- Legolas wears different garments when he meets Tauriel at the river
- Legolas says "the king is angry" - how would he know if he would have rushed directly after her?

Ohh.. I would dye for that scene, really!

Also I have the impression that the Thorin/Thranduil scene is longer, it seems (for met) cut at the beginning.

And I want to see how his red coat lands on the throne. it must be in. it MUST !

For TABA

I agree Thranduil needs to be the main elf in TABA but I still like L & T as individuals so I don't want them to go away entirely. That and I've had a powerful crush on Legolas since I first saw the LOTR movies last summer. (Rowan, you can put an asterisk next to my name on the list because I'm creating a love triangle by being a Thrandy Thrall AND a Legolas Lassie! ) Seriously, the majority of the Leggy pics make me swoon nearly as much as the Thrandy pics! My fave:

How about this: I'd like more Leggy/Thrandy moments in the DOS EE, plus a one or two in TABA, Tauriel can finish out her story with a limited amount of screen time(preferably without dying), but Thrandy gets the majority of the elven moments all to himself. That would work just fine for me.

His real backstory is much more tragic than some silly little skirmish with the "serpents of the north", which he never actually fought. And for all the foreshadowing they've put into the Ring (which was lacking from the book), showing his father and most of their soldiers die in the Battle of the Last Alliance would have been a great way to show another, canonical parallel.

All the interactions with Thranduil, Legolas, and Tauriel. They seemed to talk more about how fond Legolas is of Tauriel than of anything that actually mattered. I never talk in the theater, but at one point I remember doing this exactly (whispered of course):

Thranduil, you don’t have anything better to do than to discuss who Tauriel has a crush on, are you kidding me? Legolas was brought into this movie because he’s Thranduil’s son, yes? Why. Don’t. They. Act. Like. It. Why. Don’t. They. Elaborate. On. That. On the canon characters in the movie. Why are we talking about things that don’t matter!?

...like the names of the blue wizards. I'm not sure, but suspect Thranduil's backstory may be in "Unfinished Tales" (with the stuff about Galadriel & Celeborn) rather than in LOTR or TH - if so, they can't use it. There's certainly some Thranduil info in UT.

Usually, it takes a pairing to get my undivided attention, but Thranduil has latched onto it all on his own. (Though he does have fantastic chemistry with Thorin, I think I know how that'll end. )

Thank you, everyone, for this thread. So many gorgeous pics and great ideas. (And I, for myself, want more of all of that in the eventual EE and final movie!)

Those are some of the better Thranduil + Legolas pictures I've seen. I think their beautiful too and that means a lot coming from me because I don't usually like "anime" style artwork.

It's nice that someone's finally portrayed Thranduil as a kind, loving father. A lot of the artwork I've seen of Leggy and Thrandy seems to suggest that the artist assumes Thranduil would be a bad father who's arrogance and harshness with outsiders also translates to his parenting skills (ergo, they think he'd be kind of mean and condescending to Legolas too). I really don't like those and I don't think, (given some things Lee Pace has said about Thrandy's views on the sanctity of elven life and how they would therefore raise their children) that that would be the case at all.

Yes, that is a superb scene full of tension,atmosphere and top notch acting but we only got half of it. There are parts of the rest of the scene in the vlogs. We got the beginning with the slow tease of his crossed thigh; his hand with the bling; the close up of the Autumn crown and silver-blonde hair and piercing sky-blue eyes with the thick, dark eyebrows. I think that gives a lot of character to his face. Why oh why did PJ and co. leave out that scene where he is draped, yes draped ! on his throne looking haughty and superior and luscious all at the same time and making snarky comments to the dwarves.Then he stands and does that super sexy cloak fling thing - oh my ! and descends the steps with perfect elegance snarking and sassing the dwarves as he goes.What were they thinking ?!!! Did they not think we would want to see that? Surely they realise how popular Thranduil has become and will restore the rest of this scene in the EE. I also want the scene where Thranduil is talking to Legolas, dressed in that gorgeous dark red cloak and holding his oak staff, to be in the EE. as we have seen so little of the Thranduil/Legolas dynamic.

I hear you and feel your angst, too ! lol. I just hope we don't have to wait almost a year for the DOS: EE like we did for AUJ. That will be almost impossible for me !

RG pointed me to it yesterday (I think it was yesterday). Love the way he slides his sword into the sheath. So smooth and elegant.

I so agree with you on this. I will never understand these decisions either. I am really hoping Thranduil will be more prominent in TABA and they will treat his character with the respect that he deserves.That includes giving him his full character arc as occurred in the book. You are so correct, too, about poor Legolas. I am so annoyed about how they have reduced him to a caricature! He is the king's son ! He would be his closest ally and confidant.We should be seeing a deep and meaningful conversation or two between them. Thranduil could use Legolas as a sounding board to help him come to his own conclusions about the decisions he must make. It would make for some powerful scenes especially if Legolas did not always see eye to eye with his father. I want these scenes in somewhere !

However, I'm afraid I do not think there should be any 'deep and meaningful' exchanges between Thranduil and Legolas. Bloom simply does not have the acting ability to portray deep and meaningful parts, as is clearly evidenced even in his performance in LotR. He was fine in that because he was part of an ensemble cast and didn't have to do anything much except shoot arrows, slide and jump (via CGI), and play with knives.

Legolas also looks considerably older than Thranduil, which makes any appearances of these two characters together seem rather ludicrous.
