( I really can't believe it's been nine years -- I've blinked and I missed them! I suppose that's what having three kids does to you.) Well, nine years ago today a bunch of TORnsibbies gathered with us in San Diego (and many more gathered virtually!) and celebrated the wedding of NZ Strider and myself. It was such a fun and fantastic weekend, made all the better by getting to share it with so many excellent and admirable TORnsibs. And a couple of well-known TORnsibs even took part in the wedding. Greendragon's stunning rendition of "May it Be" left quite a few people with tears in their eyes, she sang so movingly! And Altaira was a lovely bridesmaid -- and her reading was absolutely, perfectly spot-on and so well chosen. I have so many lovely memories of that weekend, and it's all so tightly entwined with TORn, that it's inconceivable to think of having an anniversary without celebrating it here too! And can I just say that having these Hobbit movies released on our anniversary has got to be THE most perfectly fitting anniversary present EVER? You'd think we planned it this way! NZS and I had a lovely time out today, which included a matinee showing of DOS (yeah, it's brunch and a matinee these days -- no more dinner and a movie!). I loved it (as if that's a surprise), and he liked it but isn't sold on 3D HFR. Sure was a great way to spend our anniversary! Mathoms? My brain's too buzzy from DOS to think up some limericks yet, so I'll just offer what I suppose are pretty appropriate mathoms. These pics are a few months old now but the kids haven't changed much! First is all three at a beach near our house; second is NZ Toddler, just after her second birthday.

Congratulations to you and NZS. It surely doesn't seem like that many years since we were following your wedding on TORn.

Wow, I remember reading all about it on TORn! I hadn't been a member that long, and all the pictures that everyone posted allowed me to put faces with nicks. The kids are gorgeous and I see the boys still have their long hair! Here's to many more happy years.

I remember seeing the pictures of your wedding here on TORn and realizing you were on the roof of one of the buildings in Balboa Park! It's a small world. Consider yourselves toasted with champagne (or perhaps a nice Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc?) and the very best wishes for many more years together! Love the red boots on NZ Toddler, and the barefoot boy on the beach - one after my own heart.

As you know, Ro, you and NZS were married on my and my husband's own wedding anniversary. In fact, if the Gaffer's and my marriage was a hobbit, it would have "come of age" on your wedding day. Add another nine years to that, and our marriage is now the answer to life, the universe and everything (And we're getting pretty darn long in the tooth, but I'll draw a curtain over that issue.) Unfortunately, DoS doesn't open here until tomorrow, Friday the 13th (which is also a day of good omen for us, since one of our sons was born on a Friday the 13th). So we're delaying our lunch-and-a-matinee celebration until then. All the best to you and your beautiful family!

I'm sad because I'm going alone. My husband (deseased) loved the LOTRs movies so much and we had our first date in December and were married December 16 and his birthday was December 27. It's been almost four years since he died and I am looking forward to seeing the movie but just wish he could be with me.

I remember seeing the pictures from that wedding, all of you all dressed up and gorgeous! And then the move to NZ - what a time you had with that, getting all your four-footed family members over safely! And I'll never forget your subject line at one Fiesta shortly after Eldarion was born: "Moo." All of us moms could relate to that! And thank you for this perfect mathom. The kids are growing so fast, what an amazing family you have!

And here's to many many more in the future! I think I wandered away from TORn right before your announcement so I didn't hear about it until I came back. Your story and others remembering had me a bit teary-eyed. I wonder if the good Professor ever imagined people would find each other like this in his Middle Earth? *sigh* Gosh, I'm such a sucker for this kinda thing.

When you first cracked open The Lord of the Rings way back when, I bet you didn't think it'd lead to marriage, three kids and a Southern Hemisphere home. As Bilbo said, “It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.” May you all have many years of happiness ahead.
Celebrimbor: "Pretty rings..." Dwarves: "Pretty rings..." Men: "Pretty rings..." Sauron: "Mine's better." "Ah, how ironic, the addictive qualities of Sauron’s master weapon led to its own destruction. Which just goes to show, kids - if you want two small and noble souls to succeed on a mission of dire importance... send an evil-minded beggar with them too." - Gandalf's Diaries, final par, by Ufthak.
