dusting off my flame-proof suit and laying in a stockpile of popcorn and S'mores ingredients. No doubt Draupne is sharpening the horns on her helmet and piling up the cans for flinging. Evil

Now all we need is Bullroarer and his legendary spiky boots to show up and we'll be ready for anything. Sly

"Of all faces those of our familiares are the ones both most difficult to play fantastic tricks with, and most difficult really to see with fresh attention. They have become like the things which once attracted us by their glitter, or their colour, or their shape, and we laid hands on them, and then locked them in our hoard, acquired them, and acquiring ceased to look at them.
Creative fantasy, because it is mainly trying to do something else [make something new], may open your hoard and let all the locked things fly away like cage-birds. The gems all turn into flowers or flames, and you will be warned that all you had (or knew) was dangerous and potent, not really effectively chained, free and wild; no more yours than they were you."

The way i see it is, [In reply to] Can't Post

Tolkien's work is a work pursued with pure and complete abandon. It is a work of heart and a work of soul and a work of love. To me the work of Jackson has to be judged in the same manner in that it strives and achieves those same transcendent qualities. In my heart Jackson has.

"Tolkien, like Lewis, believed that, through story, the real world would become a more magical place, full of meaning. We see its patterns and colors in a fresh way. The recovery of a true view of the world applies both to individual things, like hills and stones, and to the cosmic - the depths of space and time itself. For in sub-creation, in Tolkien's view, there is a "survey" of space and time. Reality is captured on a miniature scale. Through stories like The Lord of the Rings, a renewed view of things is given, illuminating the homely, the spiritial, the physical, and the moral dimensions of the world."

Tolkien and C.S. Lewis- The Gift of Friendship -Duriez

May the grace of Manwë let us soar with eagle's wings!

In the air, among the clouds in the sky
Here is where the birds of Manwe fly
Looking at the land, and the water that flows
The true beauty of earth shows
With the stars of Varda lighting my way
In all the realms this is where I stay
In the realm of Manwë Súlimo

all the other brilliant artists and craftspeople who designed and made swords and costumes and props and sets and everything else. I am still flabbergasted by the care and artistry that went into everything in those movies. I sure hope they can get some of those same people, and others who take their work this seriously! I only know the names of a few of them, but have the greatest admiration and respect for all of them.

Oh for the love of Bruce! [In reply to] Can't Post

Really?

Raimi always drops Bruce in somewhere and many of us here love the cameos. I would love to see him, perhaps as a King of the Elves. Unless the writers greatly enhance that portion its a walk on/walk off role. Good clean fun.

Now getting the Buick in will be the real challenge.

I wish my name was "Barrow Wong". Maybe I should change it. And now for my quote:

I think he was on quite a roll for a while [In reply to] Can't Post

I like each of these films:

A Simple Plan (1998)
For Love of the Game (1999)
The Gift (2000)
Spider-Man (2002)
Spider-Man 2 (2004)

Spider-Man 3 felt to me like the studio interfered and I hope that is what happened because if not Raimi really lost his way.

What I do love about Sam is:
1) Loves the material
2) Is as true a geek as those of us here
3) Has a sense of humor but gets action too and doesn't lose his character (except SM3 mentioned above)
4) Enjoys character
5) Spider-Man 2, which is about as good a superhero film as any ever made, gives me wonder and even confidence.

Nobody is allowed [In reply to] Can't Post

Officially nobody CAN write the script because the writers are on strike. I feel confident that after the director is in place it will be Phillipa Boyens, Fran Walsh and PJ. I wonder if they will feel the freedom to re-write the script every single day.

Who would want to? [In reply to] Can't Post

Would directing these films be even more of a heartache than usual, given that the director's creative hands will be tied, even more than is usually the case, by the heavyweight writer-producers?

Between coming home to this and also news that Britney Spears's 16-yr-old sister is pregnant (by a 19-yr-old dude she apparently met in church!) my poor brain cells are fried.(Big sis Brit is apparently not taking the news well either.) I don't follow the tabloids, but this is just too much for one night.
