Top 5 directors to make "The Hobbit" [In reply to] Can't Post

1. Peter Jackson (Obviously)
2. Sam Raimi (A perfect choice)
3. Gore Verbinski (Great with SFX, can do comedy, drama and horror)
4. Andrew Adamson (Background in SFX, good at many things)
5. Brian Singer (Forget "Superman Returns", everything else he's done is great)

NO, the point of my boycott was always as stated on the Web site [In reply to] Can't Post

Which was - to get New Line and Jackson to talk and keep Jackson involved.

http://www.dpsinfo.com/boycottnewline/

(Now an archive site! Yes!)

Jackson MIGHT still direct, but keeping him in the producer's chair pretty much guarantees the right kind of scripts, direction and production. It pretty much guarantees Weta's intense involvement.

I just hope PJ can get everyone back. [In reply to] Can't Post

For this to work he needs to get WETA, Lee, Howe, Shore, Dan Hennah, Ngila Dickson and Alex Funke to sign onto the film. And I can’t imagine Middle-earth being anywhere but New Zealand. Without these key people I don’t see how he can come to anywhere near the quality of LOTR.

May your beer be laid under an enchantment of surpassing excellence for seven years!

But I'm home now and the news hasn't been debunked in the meantime, so let me just do the Nestea plunge into the sea of celebration. Whoopee!

Interesting, about the second film [In reply to] Can't Post

I mean, how in the world are they going to do that? Will it be the White Council? How are they going to expand on 60 years between the two pieces without making a pile of crap? I would be so very disappointed if the Hobbit and its sequel turned out to be, well, bad.

A few things, though:
*WETA HAS to be involved.
*New Zealand is the filming place. End of story.
*Howard Shore FTW.

And for goodness sakes, get back all the old guys (and perhaps some new talent) who worked on LOTR. The sets, the costumes, the languages... fantastic.

The script just has to be good. And here's for hoping they choose a decent cast. Though I wonder how they'll deal with the number of dwarves and if they'll decide to make it smaller. Ooh boy.

sUVI!!! [In reply to] Can't Post

dear Suvi!
you're always so logical in your musings about the Hobbit. Better than me for i'm still. in coherent. Well good points you've raised about how things are going to be. Howard Shore and Weta coming back are definite musts for i think another Oscars are locks if they are. ;)
But yes, it'll be interesting on who's going to write the script... i hope PJ does it as well too... but not butcher it too badly...

(btw, what is "FTW"--- i always see it and am not sure...) :P

"By Elbereth and Luthien the fair, you shall have neither the Ring nor me!" ~Frodo

"And then Gandalf arose and bid all men rise, and they rose, and he said: 'Here is a last hail ere the feast endeth. Last but not least. For I name now those who shall not be forgotten and without whose valour nought else that was done would have availed; and I name before you all Frodo of the Shire and Samwise his servant. And the bards and the minstrels should give them new names: Bronwe athan Harthad and Harthad Uluithiad , Endurance beyond Hope and Hope Unquenchable.." ~Gandalf, The End of the Third Age , from The History of Middle Earth series

I agree with you, Ainu Laire about getting a lot of the old talent back. I think its important for the Hobbit to have the same Middle earth feel so to speak as LotR.

High school, actually [In reply to] Can't Post

College comes in a few months. I figure out whether I get to go to UCLA or not in three months >_<

But my teachers thought it would be really funny to put in a bunch of tests- large enough to be finals- right before the holidays. Despite the fact that the term doesn't end until January.

I hate my life. Well, not really. Oh wow, I'm excited. No cynism is possible for me today. :D

"off stage" [In reply to] Can't Post

Are there moments where Jackson & co. improved on the books by not showing something? By which I mean not those things that one may guess to have happened (as some viewers propose that the hobbits visited Tom Bombadil between the Ferry and Bree, though there is not one indication of that onscreen) but something that clearly happened both in the book and on screen, but is presented directly in the book and elided on film?
