so no the code was not needed, plenty of streams going round and lots of people giving there spare ones out! but didnt anyone notice all the alan lee designs for smaug on the walls behind the computer during the 'fake' smaug section. so basically we all know what smaug looks like, just check the alan lee drawings he has been doing for years!

I'm guessing that the Company are going to be chased to Beorn's (by Orcs), thus all entering his Hall at once. That's what it looked like.

Not having seen every map ever made of ME from the First Age (i.e. when Colbert was 11), was that a real map? We thought maybe it might have been a map that he made as a pre-adolescent. It had that homemade look. If so, that would be totally awesome, particularly since he framed it. I did really want to see Beorn. Not in bear form, but in scruffy woodsman form. Maybe in a future vlog.....

He did this for us, and he didn't have to. Putting on something like this takes a fair bit of behind-the-scenes planning and coordination. I fully realize how frustrating it is for those who wanted to catch it live but couldn't, but at least it will be available soon (albeit in an edited version). PJ is so very good to us, and I for one am hugely grateful. Thank you, PJ, and Jed too! Loved it loved it loved it. Especially (am I repeating myself yet?) the bits with Thranduil. Fabulous. I feel like a little kid trying to wait for Christmas, only it's 100 times worse!

Can we assume from what we've seen that Azog's orcs seem to pursue the dwarves to Mirkwood, before getting into a scrap with Thranduil/Legolas/Tauriel and their elves? I'd say that's the most logical placement in the story for Azog's death, though I dunno how they'd get Thorin to do it.

Okay, I'm going to stop drooling at some point, but I'm just too excited right now! *looks around for a mop* Wasn't Thranduil lounging casually on his throne in one of the first bits where we saw him? Not sitting stiff and regally, but sprawling...or am I just remembering wrong? And yes, Bilbo fussing over Kili! So sweet! And Kili just doing the trademarked Durin Glare. You know what this should mean, though: the company is attacked by orcs AFTER escaping from Thranduil and before that boat scene. That boat scene would be Bard bringing them to Laketown, wouldn't it? So probably they're attacked sometime between escaping the barrels and being rescued by Bard. And Kili gets wounded! C'mere, you sweet dwarf, I'll kiss it better...

Was that a bat that flew out of the tomb, or was it a moth? And if it was a moth ... was it Radagast? It implied to me that whatever flew out was Radagast in one of his shapeshifting forms.

Not sitting stiff and regally, but sprawling...or am I just remembering wrong? yes, i believe there was some silvan sprawl. that throne was mighty pointy. thranduil should watch where he drapes himself. can't wait 'til we really get to see thorin and thranduil really get in each other's faces. how tall. is lee pace? he looked quite a bit taller than armitage, when they were together. i wonder how they're playing with the heights. cheers -- .
aka. fili orc-enshield +++++++++++++++++++ the scene, as i understand it, is exceptionally well-written. fili (in sort of a callback to the scene with the eagles), calls out "thorRIIIIIIN!!!" just as he sees the pale orc veer in for the kill. he picks up the severed arm of an orc which is lying on the ground, swings it up in desperation, effectively blocking the pale orc's blow. and thus, forever after, fili is known as "fili orc-enshield." this earns him deep respect from his hard-to-please uncle. as well as a hug. kili wipes his boots on the pale orc's glory box. -- maciliel

Just because this is a sneak peek at DOS, does not mean that some of this footage isn't slated for the Extended cut But if it does not make that EE, rather than mess with geographic inconsistency, it may just be a flashback story Gandalf imparts to explain why he did not catch up to the Dwarves earlier as they climbed the mountains. After all, the encounter with Thrain is going to have to be a flashback as well.
Just posted on another thread but i think it needs addressing here too
I feel that this scene was cut out of AUJ. I was expecting this scene being in the extended cut of AUJ most likely as following Gandalf after Rivendell while the Dwarves are in Goblin town. It would have just have fitted, as the previous shot of gandalf was with Galadriel "The riddle of the morgul blade must be solved". Just to add to to this I've got ' The Hobbit Chronicles of Middle earth' and there is a section in there is a couple of pages in there which discusses it! (Pg 150-151 for anyone who has it). It says - "While Gandalf seeks answers beneath the mountains, Thorin leads his company over them..." Yet more proof that this scene was originally going to be in AUJ. What I'm wondering is how they're going to explain this in AUJ? A possible prologue but unlikely. Since most of the audience probably won't realise that this scene was originally meant to be on the other side of the misty mountains, they will know no different... However the problem with this is that Galadriel says at the white council "They were buried in the high fells of Rhudar". Now Rhudar is on the side of the misty mountains which they just crossed over! And i highly doubt that Gandalf will travel back across it in DOS. Guess we've already got a film inconsistency... Any thoughts? Peace, Love and Rock & Roll, Garfeimao The orange stripey One Cruise to Middle-earth

That would explain why he seemed a bit confused as to where he was, as well. Returning to human form might be similar to being woken up quickly and thinking—where am I? I think I like a shape-shifting Radagast!

He's like 1.91 (6 ft 3 or something). But that must have been a test or something right considering how tall Thorin was there. And Thranduil was totally draped on his throne lol. I LOVED that a whole lot than sitting stiff like a statue. Did anyone notice the antlers over his throne? WHAT did you do to your elk!!! Lol

... suspiciously like the antlers on the "moose" he was riding in the prologue, hmm... bad moose? And I loved that he was lounging on his throne at the beginning of that shot, that would only make Thorin more angry, it's going to be epic!

Kili has a line there, he says it's just a scratch. It went by so fast it was hard to tell, but it's possible Kili hadn't told anyone about it, in the low in the boat shot, after Bilbo says it he quickly looks at Fili almost apologetically. On the other hand, Fili doesn't seem to really react much so maybe either he knew and was in on it(I can see Kili getting him to not say anything because of Thorin or something), or he didn't need to react much because well...he didn't need, they are so close it wouldn't have been necessary for him to do more than look at Kili for him to know Fili was thinking. (LOL Kili must have been impossible to stay mad at as a kid, because even as a young adult, he's got the puppy dogs eyes down perfectly) And yeah I thought it was interesting that apparently even after they escape Mirkwood, they are again attacked by orcs. As I recall there's a scene in one of the vlogs where after the dwarves get out of the barrels, they suddenly start grabbing for big stones on the rivers edge...perhaps this is when the orc attack occurs? So it seems like then they manage to meet up with Bard, it's kind of confusing. They get out of the barrels, get attacked, run into Bard. Yet they show a scene of Bard looking at barrels?
