Opening week [In reply to] Can't Post

I only know the the opening week number (Mon - Sun) - $34.5m. It opened on a Monday. That makes comparisons more tricky.

A Chinese poster on the IMBd board [In reply to] Can't Post

who has already travelled to Hong Kong to see the film, posted an hour ago about the opening in China:

"Busy - Long queues for tickets, but that is to be expected on day 1. Wait a week or two to see the real impact. I am sticking by my 100 million forecast."

Someone is now saying... [In reply to] Can't Post

... it might have a bigger opening day than Skyfall. But again, Skyfall opened on a Monday.

Meh, we'll see in a few hours or tomorrow, when first numbers come out. Until then, it's all pretty murky.

I just want it at 60+ million. That would put a nice cherry on top of the theatrical run.

Icing on the cake [In reply to] Can't Post

Well, I'm really happy with what it has done so far and that so many people love the film – anything more is just the icing on the cake. (Although it will be really nice for it to go higher...)

Most of all, I am happy for PJ and all the other creatives who have put so much effort into this film.

I'm cool with 35-40 million [In reply to] Can't Post

Because that is what is needed to break the big one. I hope for 60-70 million, but I won't lose any sleep if it won't match that. Just as long as it makes at least 35-40.

In the forum of... [In reply to] Can't Post

... boxoffice(dot)com some people always provide some numbers.

Apparently it did better than Skyfall on its opening day (with the advantage of prices and Friday and the disadvantage of the smash hit JTTW) and official numbers are to be expected in the next 10-12 hours.

Latest tracking has it doing 40m Yuan on opening day [In reply to] Can't Post

According to someone from China. That would be about $6.4m. Pretty good. Since it's early (it got posted like 8 hours ago), take it with a grain of salt.

Q&A time! [In reply to] Can't Post

1.Was it translated or subTitled..?
Both. In my city there're 27 cenimas showing AUJ, most of which are english version with subtitles.

2.The dragon kite in the prologue
... how cool was that?
IMO the dragon kite is OK, but PJ &co have to do better if they want to entertain a ChineseWink

3.
The East Asian look or Mongolian
kinda taste of Dale?
I thought the architeture style is kinda
Mediterranean£¿Didn't pay much attention to the vogue of Dale though. I'll watch more carefully when I go to see it again this afternoon.

First estimates are in: 35m Yuan [In reply to] Can't Post

That would be $5.6m for Friday. With that number, the weekend should be around $20m. Enough to reach $50m total.

Dale [In reply to] Can't Post

I think this was (sort of) modelled on Turkish towns – PJ mentioned this somewhere. So yes, it does have a Mediterranean feel.

From the little one sees of Dale, it does have a Turkish-town feel to it (I've been to Turkey many times).
