1. The Company has a discussion about their next moves after they climb down from the Carrock, sitting in a little cave at the foot of the steps near the ford. After they finish the discussion, what is the next thing they all do?

Going to Beorn's house

2. Name two kinds of animals that act as Beorn’s servants.

Bambi, Thumper, and Ms. Piglett aka Deer, Rabbit, and Pig (That's three but since I'm most likely wrong I'm tossing guesses out)

3. When Beorn returns from his excursion, as part of his explanation for what he’s been up to, he shows the Company two things that he’s just put outside his house. What are these two things?

A goblin head was put on a steak outside of the gate and the warg skin was nailed to a tree I believe

4. While the Company journeys from Beorn’s house to the eaves of Mirkwood, what does Bilbo see at dusk prowling nearby (he sees this same thing again in the morning when the Company sets the ponies free to return to Beorn’s house)?

A large Bear

5. What is Gandalf’s final bit of advice to the Company before he leaves them at the edge of Mirkwood?

Stay on the path

Here we go again [In reply to] Can't Post

1. They're setting our for Beorn's house, I believe.
2. Ponies and dogs.
3. A warg skin and a pierced goblin head. (By the way, that always reminds me of Ugluk's pierced head in TTT)
4. Beorn. Though, of course he doesn't yet know it's Beorn. So, what he sees is simply a huge bear.
5. Don't, under any circumstances, leave the path! *Sigh*, and what did they do? At least they can't say, they haven't been sufficiently warned. Though, of course, when you're starving ... It probably wouldn't have got them out of the forest anyway. And he says something about about trusting in Bilbo's burglar qualities.

But here goes nothing anyway...

1. Oooh yes, they get all nekkid and take a bath, splashing around in the shallow river and **part of answer censored** And after the bath, I imagine, they all braided each others' hair. Not in the book, you say? Well, it's all in my head then. I'll keep it there.

2. I wanna say horses, or maybe ponies, and dogs, I think, big dogs, pony-sized dogs?

3. Did he take out the kitty litter? Probably not, as I can't remember any cats being mentioned. Well, then I guess it's a goblin's head and a Warg skin. Ugh, yeah, so much for decorating your front garden.

4. A big bear (aka Beorn himself)

Take a nap. Have you seen Carrock? That's one heck of a climb down!!

Name two kinds of animals that act as Beorn’s servants.

A sloth and a tortoise. That's why they were there for days. It took them that long to get the food!

When Beorn returns from his excursion, as part of his explanation for what he’s been up to, he shows the Company two things that he’s just put outside his house. What are these two things?

A projector and a screen, so that he could show them his vacation slides.

While the Company journeys from Beorn’s house to the eaves of Mirkwood, what does Bilbo see at dusk prowling nearby (he sees this same thing again in the morning when the Company sets the ponies free to return to Beorn’s house)?

A self-inserted fanfic writer.

What is Gandalf’s final bit of advice to the Company before he leaves them at the edge of Mirkwood?

"If you get lost, Ask For Directions!" He knows how stubborn those Dwarves can be.

Odd, I seem to remember more of these [In reply to] Can't Post

Which is odd because "Queer Lodgings" was never a favorite chapter...

1. They bathe in the river. Which presumably means Thorin washes his hair, causing himself to appear even more majestic than usual! Heart

2. Dogs and ponies. (Ha! I could only remember dogs, but you mentioned ponies in question 4!)

There is something odd about his dogs though. Mine could no way no how be trusted near a table, she would scarf the food down herself. She routinely snags my breakfast if I turn my back... Though she is great at prewashing dishes for the dishwasher! Laugh

3. The head of an Orc and the pelt of a Warg.

4. A bear.

5. "Folllow the yellow brick road!"

(Loose paraphrase, there. More like, do not wander off the path).

There are times when one is glad that Tolkien changed some of the original wording... [In reply to] Can't Post

1. The Company has a discussion about their next moves after they climb down from the Carrock, sitting in a little cave at the foot of the steps near the ford. After they finish the discussion, what is the next thing they all do?
They open up their hamper and have a nice picnic lunch of cold mutton sandwiches. Don't ask where the Eagles got the bread and pickles.
(They go skinny-dipping in the River. I wonder if Thorin remembered to bring his shampoo along?)

2. Name two kinds of animals that act as Beorn’s servants.
He tried hedgehogs and rabbits, but the former had prickly personalities and the latter just gave him the runaround. So he settled on critters like dogs and sheep.

3. When Beorn returns from his excursion, as part of his explanation for what he’s been up to, he shows the Company two things that he’s just put outside his house. What are these two things?
A sign advertising Warg-fur hats, complete with decorative tail, and the remains of their picnic lunch at Carrock - he's very fussy about littering!
(An impaled orc head and a stretched warg skin, which would make a lovely coonskin-style hat, don't you think?)

4. While the Company journeys from Beorn’s house to the eaves of Mirkwood, what does Bilbo see at dusk prowling nearby (he sees this same thing again in the morning when the Company sets the ponies free to return to Beorn’s house)?
Gollum.
(A huge bear.)

5. What is Gandalf’s final bit of advice to the Company before he leaves them at the edge of Mirkwood?
"Keep your peckers up!" (Seriously - this is in the original draft!)
(What he really gave them turned out to be the worst advice possible: "Don't leave the path!")

Queer Lodgings:

1. The Company has a discussion about their next moves after they climb down from the Carrock, sitting in a little cave at the foot of the steps near the ford. After they finish the discussion, what is the next thing they all do?

They all sing "Yellow Submarine".

2. Name two kinds of animals that act as Beorn’s servants.

A dog and a horse

3. When Beorn returns from his excursion, as part of his explanation for what he’s been up to, he shows the Company two things that he’s just put outside his house. What are these two things?

A golblin's head on a spike, and a vampire staked to the ground.

4. While the Company journeys from Beorn’s house to the eaves of Mirkwood, what does Bilbo see at dusk prowling nearby (he sees this same thing again in the morning when the Company sets the ponies free to return to Beorn’s house)?

It's a great big berserker bear out to eat them! Or it's just Beorn, a great big berserker bear out to watch them.

5. What is Gandalf’s final bit of advice to the Company before he leaves them at the edge of Mirkwood?

"STAY ON THE PATH!" And, 'may the road rise with you."

I know the answers, really I do, I'm just messing around. Wink

One of my favorite chapters. [In reply to] Can't Post

I always found this chapter particularly magical as a child. Here goes nothing:

1. They go skinny-dipping. I'd like to see this scene in the next movie. At the very least they're going to need to tidy their hair. Nori is looking a bit of a mess.

2. White sheep led by a coal black ram and dogs that walk on their hind legs.

3. A warg skin nailed to a tree and a goblin head stuck at the gate. Personally, I would have gone with a nice potted plant by the door, but that's just me.

4. The shape of a large bear.

5. "Stay on the path!" Actually, Gandalf is a bit annoying here with all his advice. I would have been tempted to go exploring too.

Just keepin' the bench warm!

1. The Company has a discussion about their next moves after they climb down from the Carrock, sitting in a little cave at the foot of the steps near the ford. After they finish the discussion, what is the next thing they all do?

Settle in for the movie (after they get their popcorn and use the... ah... facilities).

2. Name two kinds of animals that act as Beorn’s servants.

Curly the sheep and Larry the dog. Moe and Shemp the bees never appear together.

3. When Beorn returns from his excursion, as part of his explanation for what he’s been up to, he shows the Company two things that he’s just put outside his house. What are these two things?

A big ol' goblin head on a stick and... ummm... a warg pelt? wolf pelt? warg wolf oof... I can't remember which ones are in TH.

4. While the Company journeys from Beorn’s house to the eaves of Mirkwood, what does Bilbo see at dusk prowling nearby (he sees this same thing again in the morning when the Company sets the ponies free to return to Beorn’s house)?

Winnie-the-Pooh's former next-door neighbor but one, Baloo's
second cousin once removed, or Brer Rabbit's best friend... oh, bother, I can never tell these bears apart!

5. What is Gandalf’s final bit of advice to the Company before he leaves them at the edge of Mirkwood?

"Bye-bye, boys; have fun storming the castle!" Oh, oops, wrong reference again. Crazy

Something along the lines of "don't drink the water" and "stay on the trail"?

1. The Company has a discussion about their next moves after they climb down from the Carrock, sitting in a little cave at the foot of the steps near the ford. After they finish the discussion, what is the next thing they all do?

Bilbo and Gandalf go to Beorn's, and the rest hang behind, ready to follow in in pairs. Because apparently that never gets old.

2. Name two kinds of animals that act as Beorn’s servants.

Dogs and ...ah....badgers. When they're off duty, time to make the cute youtube clips!

3. When Beorn returns from his excursion, as part of his explanation for what he’s been up to, he shows the Company two things that he’s just put outside his house. What are these two things?

Head of goblin, skin of Warg'll
Make you want to rinse and gargle.

4. While the Company journeys from Beorn’s house to the eaves of Mirkwood, what does Bilbo see at dusk prowling nearby (he sees this same thing again in the morning when the Company sets the ponies free to return to Beorn’s house)?

Bear!
Where?
Where what?
Where bear?
Not technically, more a shapeshifter really.
Huh?
Oh look, bear left.
Why, is there a fork up ahead?
No, but it still has part of the spine attached.

42. [In reply to] Can't Post

1. The Dwarves being good miners, they begin panning for gold in the river, which they find to be a rather wet process. So naturally they would take advantage of free water for bathing, laundry, and panning gold, and kill three birds (oops, maybe not a good choice!) with one well-placed nugget.

2. Beorn has many animal servants, some are a little slow (such as the turtles and snails), and some tend to stop in the middle of everything to chase mice and groom themselves (who let the cats in?); luckily the dogs behave (if there's no cats around) and the ponies will do anything for an apple with honey.

3. Wow, I don't think I can sugarcoat this! The skin of a very unlucky warg, still watched over by his faithful goblin friend--unfortunately minus his body.

4. The Loch Ness Monster, King Kong, Godzilla, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, the Beast with 1,000,000 Eyes, the Brain from Planet Arous, three different subphyla of giant insects, the Thing, It, She, Them, and the Blob. And a Bear.

5. "And whatever you do, be sure to catch the great amusement parks and entertainment Mirkwood has to offer! Endless trees! Black squirrels, black spiders, black deer, black water, black butterflies! A lifetime of wandering! What's that? Smaug! Well, just stay on the path then. (aside) BORING!

Extra Credit answer: Life, the Universe, and Everything. And especially Thorin's pants (I mean hair--heeheeBlush)

'"Never laugh at live dragons, Bilbo you fool!" he said to himself, and it became a favourite saying of his later, and passed into a proverb.'

1. The Company has a discussion about their next moves after they climb down from the Carrock, sitting in a little cave at the foot of the steps near the ford. After they finish the discussion, what is the next thing they all do?
Skinny-dippin', but without (as far as we know) the hairy little women.

2. Name two kinds of animals that act as Beorn’s servants.
Sheep and dogs. Beorn does not keep cats. Apparently, Beorn only likes animals who serve him, not the other way around.

3. When Beorn returns from his excursion, as part of his explanation for what he’s been up to, he shows the Company two things that he’s just put outside his house. What are these two things?
A warg pelt and a goblin head.

4. While the Company journeys from Beorn’s house to the eaves of Mirkwood, what does Bilbo see at dusk prowling nearby (he sees this same thing again in the morning when the Company sets the ponies free to return to Beorn’s house)?
A bear. In fact, a Were-bear, not to be confused with a Care-bear, or a Hair-bear.

5. What is Gandalf’s final bit of advice to the Company before he leaves them at the edge of Mirkwood?
Stay on the path!

2. Name two kinds of animals that act as Beorn’s servants.
If you don't count the bees and horses (which do not quite serve), we have the dogs and sheep.

3. When Beorn returns from his excursion, as part of his explanation for what he’s been up to, he shows the Company two things that he’s just put outside his house. What are these two things?
The grizzly trophies! A goblin head and a wolfshame (okay, warg's hide).

5. What is Gandalf’s final bit of advice to the Company before he leaves them at the edge of Mirkwood?
You mean, after the peckers bit was deleted?
(But seriously - why was it? You could keep the whole chapter XX-rated, and for the family-friendly movie just skip it, like the Barrow-downs in FotR. Gandalf could give Thorin a package of cram just before the forest gate, like Strider with the swords on Weathertop, and voila!)

2. Name two kinds of animals that act as Beorn’s servants.
You can relate to this one, Ro! Horses and dogs... 2 of your favs!

3. When Beorn returns from his excursion, as part of his explanation for what he’s been up to, he shows the Company two things that he’s just put outside his house. What are these two things?
A warg pelt and a goblin head. Gives a whole new meaning to heads n' tails ;)

A Monstrous Teddy Bear!

5. What is Gandalf’s final bit of advice to the Company before he leaves them at the edge of Mirkwood?
