Dwalin has a mohawk in Moria. I can't remember the exact moment when you see it, but I remember thinking it was cool. (I've seen the movie only twice, and the last time was the weekend before Christmas.

Have their own "young" section (i.e. you see their Azanulbizar designs). If other Dwarves from the Company were present, would we expect to see this in the Chronicles book? (Sorry, this is more of speculation/discussion, than an observation. Thanks for all your hard work gramma.)

amazon.de (in Germany, that is) lists both the blu ray and regular dvd as being available as of December 31st of this year --- that's got to be wrong! I mean, they'd be losing all the Christmas business, plus the second part of the trilogy, Desolation of Smaug, will be in the cinemas before one has a chance to refresh one's memories --- and get ready for --- this next installment. Does anyone have different information? Last time I looked on amazon.com an amazon.co.uk, both said something like no fixed release date yet. I can't wait that long, boohoohoo!!! And I hope to get in two more viewings, at least....

Okay, so I've just returned from another amazing viewing of The Hobbit and I noticed two things: 1. When Balin arrives at Bag End, Dwalin is just trying to get hold of the contents of a big cookie-jar. Without success though, as his dwarven hands are too big. 2. Thorin is the only one of Bilbo's unexpected guests who knocks at the door (and not very gently). All the others use the doorbell.

When they're in the Goblin's Lair and are grabbing and throwing weapons, it looks like one of them gets tossed a mallet/hammer/not sure what it's called and the momentum causes it to swing back and strike a goblin right behind the Dwarf. I think it's Ori, but not sure, as it happened rather fast. But if it is Ori, then it looks like he learned a new skill of swinging a mallet over his head to hit something behind him. I'm seeing it again this weekend, so I'll see if I can catch who it is in "Goblin Town".

I always laugh at that scene....not because he can't get the cookies (cause he actually has his fingers around some of them).... ......I laugh because of the way he jumps when Balin yells at him.....like a little kid who just got caught by Mommy with his hands in a cookie jar.....LOL

Hope you don't mind. 83 -- It's Nori that has the sausages around his neck, not Ori. 121 - Gandalf, Oin, and either Fili or Kili (not sure which, as they're the only two riding behind Oin) wager Bilbo will show up. 124 - I think that's Bombur snoring/sucking in moths, not Gloin. 263 - Bifur and Nori are in Thorin's group. (Bifur is behind Oin... or Balin (who seems to disappear in shots)), and Nori is between Bifur and Dori. When Bilbo's hanging off the ledge, there's a shot where you can see Thorin's group (in order): Kili, Dori, Nori, Bifur, [Balin], Oin, Gloin, Thorin. 263/4 - Fili and Kili should be swapped - Fili's on the same leg as Bilbo, and Kili with Thorin. There's a few shots where you can see both of them in their respective groups, especially once the giant crashes - Fili's part of the group on the ground.

...he shows how naive and experienced he is in the scene when Bilbo is hanging from the cliff. Ori attempts to grab Bilbo, but only knocks Bilbo's grip almost sending him down. Luckily Bilbo still has his one hand on the rock. Poor Bofur tries to grab Bilbo but can't get to him. That's when Thorin jumps down and pulls our Bilbo to safety... ......then Dwalin reaches down and saves Thorin....whew!.... but that's another story....

Here's a couple more from my first IMAX 3-D viewing!!

Geeky observations! My daughter and I went to the IMAX 3-D viewing yesterday--my first IMAX movie! All I can say is how utterly amazing it was!! The movie was so much better in this format, The scene with the Necromancer in Dol Guldur especially brought out a much better view, with vague features seen on the Necromancer's face and head. Some quick observations: Flowers at Bag-End: There are white foxgloves growing to the right of the front door. In the scenes with Frodo and Bilbo, they are not quite blooming; when Gandalf meets younger Bilbo, the lower blossoms are open. I see nasturtiums growing around. When old Bilbo is sitting on the bench, there are blue flowers behind his left shoulder, I think they're lobelia :) When younger Bilbo is sitting on the bench (I think he is sitting in a different place on the bench) I see yellow "daisies" behind his right shoulder. I couldn't catch what kinds have changed but the flowers in general are a little different between the flashback and the "present" time. DALE AND EREBOR STUFF: I did see a Dwarf-woman carrying a tray. 9. The turtle kite is light yellow. BACK TO BAG END STUFF: 36. When Frodo comes out of the pantry, there is a string of garlic bulbs just inside the door. 40. In the chest--It looks like Sting is on top. Frodo pulls out two swords: one is squared off and looks like a goblin or orc sword; the second is shorter and broken. I think it is the sword the Troll has and uses to threaten Bilbo. RADAGAST STUFF: The hands of the statue holding the sword when Radagast enters Dol Guldur tighten on the sword-hilt. Very creepy! The Necromancer is whispering "Radagast". GOBLIN TOWN STUFF: The throne of the Goblin-King has carving on the back. I couldn't see what it was, but I did see a circular design. OUT OF THE FRYING PAN: I watched Sting throughout this scene. Sting glows when Bilbo is fighting the orcs--but doesn't seem to when he faces Azog. I'm very sure this happens each time. Sting is either glowing very faintly or not at all when he's near Azog. That's all that comes to me right now. I can add more when I've recovered from this fabulous experience!
" Well well!", said a voice. "Just look! Bilbo the hobbit on a pony, my dear! Isn't it delicious!" "Most astonishing wonderful!"

My daughter and I went to the IMAX 3-D viewing yesterday--my first IMAX movie! All I can say is how utterly amazing it was!! congrats! I love IMAX 3D. Had to choose the first day between IMAX 3D or the new HFR 3D. Choose the IMAX and glad I did. Saw The Hobbit 5 times that first day. Did go back several times and saw it in the HFR 3D and totally enjoyed it. But most of my viewings have been in IMAX 3D. I did see it once in 2D and once in regular 3D. but back to the geeky stuff....lol I did see a Dwarf-woman carrying a tray. There are several Dwarf-women in that scene. The dark haired women are easier to spot. There are also women running while escaping from the dragon. But like many scenes, you can't blink or you miss them...lol The hands of the statue holding the sword when Radagast enters Dol Guldur tighten on the sword-hilt. Very creepy! Yeah....I caught that the first time and it's creepy for sure. Reminds me of the Weeping Angels on Dr. Who. Which is kinda cool if you think about the fact that Sylvester McCoy was the Doctor at one time....

Kili is on the other leg, not with Thorin

I had read Gramma's list the other day and then just went for viewing #4 last night keeping in mind to pay special attention to Thorin, Fili, and Kili during the Stone Giant scene. I'm absolutely certain of the following: Kili has one foot on each stone giant leg. As the stone giant legs separate, his feet start to separate as well and he goes to the right of the audience. Fili, on our left, says to Kili, "Grab my hand", but the giant moved too fast to allow this. When it appears that Kili and the other Dwarves on the stone giant leg on the right of the screen are smashed and killed, Thorin screams "Kili" a couple times. When we see that the Dwarves to the right of the screen are not killed, we hear, "They're alive!" and Thorin rushes towards them saying, with great relief, "Kili". so, I believe you are mistaken, unless I have misunderstood you. Gramma, this is a fantastic list! It gave me specific things to look for on my 4th viewing that I may not have noticed yet. I haven't posted much in years and years and years but I remember your dedication and prolific posting. :-)

I was looking for the Dwarf women,

but, as you said, everything moves so quickly and I tried to look at everything at one! The hair of the Dwarf woman I saw was a medium blonde. I did see Peter Jackson as well in his cameo! I wish I'd seen Doctor Who when Sylvester McCoy was playing the part, unfortunately at that point I wasn't getting it here in the US. I did see the TV movie, when McCoy's Doctor get shot! and he reincarnates into Paul McCann's Doctor Who. Oh yes, I am now a big fan of IMAX 3-D! It took a bit to get the glasses positioned over my own glasses--I'm too nearsighted to see without them--but once settled, it was perfect. Last row, right in the middle, wow.

The women in Dale are easier to spot because they are not running. But with all the movement of people in the town and the camera zooming along, well, it still is a bit tough to spot them...lol. Last row, right in the middle, wow. I suggest, next time you go to IMAX theater.....sit in the middle. I mean, middle row and middle of that row. Maybe a few rows behind middle row....but not last row. Better location for picture and sound. Of course that may mean getting to the theater a little earlier so you can get where you want. But you will be happy once you try it there. I wish I'd seen Doctor Who when Sylvester McCoy was playing the part I've seen some of the earlier doctors over the years. I've also been privileged to see Mr. McCoy several times and talk to him and get his autograph. If I am ever lucky to see him again, I guess I'll have to add an autographed picture of Radacast to my picture of Dr. Who...*sigh

I did see two swords in the chest and one of them certainly lokked like a goblin sord to me (I think Frodo even takes it out to examine it if I'm not mistaken). Whether the other one is really the trollknife, I cannot say. I'd have to see it again. By the way, thank you, you've just given me an actual reason to see it again (not that I need one ).
