How did you welcome the arrival of 2013? Can't Post

My answer is #7 - usually the neighbors set off fireworks, we wake up and mumble Happy New Year and go back to sleep. Those neighbors must have moved...

Muttering sulphurously [In reply to] Can't Post

at the neighbours who let off fireworks from 11am to 1am, each new lot starting just as I was drifting off; then at the meathead who roared his car around the streets doing wheelies; then at the two earthquakes after 3am.

2013 really didn't want me to get much sleep that night.

It was really less than a "tiny party" [In reply to] Can't Post

It was a typical New Year's Eve for us. With only one of our three adult kids at home, we headed over to the local Olive Garden for an early dinner out (they have delicious soups and reasonable portions there).

Then back home to play a game, this year we did a couple rounds of Monopoly Millionaire Deal card game - new to us, and like a quick version of Monopoly. After which we knew none of us would hold out until midnight! I fell asleep reading a book about Durham Castle. Have you ever noticed that if you start dozing off while reading about something, the subject matter tends to enter your dreams? I have vague remembrances of brief dreams with something about Cuthbert and the Danish invasions of Northumberland...

Quiet New Year's Eve. [In reply to] Can't Post

OhioHobbit and I watched an old James Bond movie and went to bed at 9:30 p.m. I slept all night (neighbors were quiet this year -- I guess they are getting older, too) so I missed the midnight arrival of 2013.

Well i am sure it was fun on TORn nevertheless!

As for myself it was just a small gathering at gf of her family, then at midnight we set off some lanterns into the sky with messages we had wrote on them for the coming year.

took my daughter. My granddaughter was upset that we went without her but as she was moving from airport to airport (texting us every time she got on, off or just got bored waiting for the next flight) returning from a visit with her dad it was unavoidable. I suppose I'll just have to go again to keep her company.

Tiny party at home. [In reply to] Can't Post

We had Mr. Eruvande's parents over for dinner, including black eyed peas, and played pool and the xbox in our new man cave.

At 11 pm, central time, we decided it was midnight in New York and that was good enough for us. We had some nasty dry champagne, and the Little Eruvandes had sparkling apple cider. I'd rather have the apple cider, really.

Yes we are party animals. Do not try this at home. Tongue

Games with my family, then fireworks [In reply to] Can't Post

We've made New Year's a family celebration for a long time. The tradition is to play Fictionary at my dad's house. We've been saving the papers for decades, and they make fun reading. The best word I learned this year was "tsimmes: the over-complication of a relatively simple situation (also a stew of vegetables and fruits)"

This year we also played Apples to Apples. Our kids are grown and went to parties of their own, and my sister was away at a party of her own, but my out-of-state brother was visiting, so he and my dad and Uncle Baggins and I got together for a low-key party. We came home at 11, wanting to avoid the drunks, and set off a fireworks fountain at our house.

Indeed... [In reply to] Can't Post

I live less than 10 minutes drive from the World Famous San Diego Zoo in an area called North Park. Most folks don't realise that San Diego is the 6th largest city in the US, and we have our fair share of gang activity in the inner cities and north counties. Most of it is crystal meth drug trade related....

Please don't get the wrong impression of my city though....relatively low crime rate, and a beautiful place with a ton of stuff to do and see Smile

Idiots tend to shoot holes in the sky on the 4th of July as well....

A little bit of everything. [In reply to] Can't Post

Little D and I spent the evening at a friend's house as they were having a small party. 7-8 couples and their children. We haven't been to a New Year's Eve party in years - I am usually watching the ball drop while Mrs. D is well into REM sleep.

I knew things were going to be a little crazy upon our arrival when my friend told me that he turned on the pool heater a few hours ago (ambient air temp was a balmy 25 F). Good food (beef tenderloin on the grill), spirits and lots of games (euchre, anyone?). No Twister though. At midnight, shared a wonderful bottle of champagne then proceeded to light off several large fireworks. Due to the summer drought, there was a burn ban, so we had LOTS of things to choose from our Fourth of July stash. Then the polar bears hopped into the pool, got out and ran across the street to a neighbor with an indoor hot tub. We just took pictures, which I won't be uploading. Laugh

San Diego is lovely. [In reply to] Can't Post

I worked and lived there north of Balboa Park for three months in 1981 and thought it was wonderful. I grew up in S. Cal but haven't lived there for 30 years, but now when I visit family in LA, I occasionally take the nice train ride down for the day. I would expect similar holiday excitement where I came from, but I was surprised that things have changed in San Diego, too. Evil

New Year [In reply to] Can't Post

I went to my sister's home with family members to celebrate the New Year. We had a nice holiday supper and exchanged gifts as we didn't all saw each other at christmas. I had a few drinks and we played card games (which I am really not good at) and I stayed there for the night. She provided some of us who slept there with a good breakfast and that's about it. I got home tired for I didn't slept to weel on a couch. Overall it was good.

though it was in the late afternoon, and we didn't have any party to speak of, so I voted the last option

I could count on two hands [In reply to] Can't Post

the number of times i've gone out for New Years in my live-- i'm not much for holidays. This year was one of the quiet ones. Don't remember exactly what i did, but i'm sure it involved what i would normally do on a night off-- eat dinner, possibly carry-out, catch up on some dvr tv, maybe a movie, look at the internet. I like to go out when it's not so crowded and noisy-- i like to actually talk to the people i'm with.
