had my wife and i last night/this morning (11pm-1am) completety mesmerized by it's beauty, it's power, and it's story. As most of you know, i love very much trying to capture the rapture of nature through a camera. So i will say that we were completely captivated by the photography here. It just was breath-catching enthrallment, to reach again trying to use words to relate this experience. It is ascendingly human, if i may put it that way. It is spiritual. I will reiterate again the value of 3-D, that is used in this film. You find that you are just, THERE I was not apart or removed as a static obverver. I was immersed in the life of this experience as i am in any other real life experience in this world. The main element used here is water, and because i am a lover of water, (in&over&under it) this was a magnificent experience for me. If you happen to like Bengal tigers, well, hold on to your britches.

100% CGI and star Ray Winston's voice is attached to someone else's physique, but I really love this movie. Bonus, it features a great golden dragon!

It must be a tad chilly up yonder huh? Fur-lined what-evers are the order of the day. The bottom is going to dropout here the next few days. Yes, actually looking at it again, it had quite a dream-like quality.

Though I was shocked to find out the tiger was 100% CGI. Honest to God, a few scenes in the boat I thought the tiger was real. For the first time in my life I am completely astounded at what today' pixel wizards are capable of--and all that wasn't even WETA. The island was simply gorgeous. Was taken aback by the ending though--def gives you something to think about (won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it, but it's quite jarring.) you can tell that the 2nd story was probably the true one, from the acting. I hadn't read the book, but I suspect that the way this was told, if that ending came from the book, even those familar with the source material would have found it disturbing. Ang Lee leaves it all up in the air, though, but again, from the acting...you can tell which story was true. And if you see the movie again and remember any of that and run the alternate scenario out in frot of you on the screen instead....well. All in all, a beautiful, lyrical film, and it's a shame it didn't do more at the boxoffice here in the US (though the take is huge in China.)

I LOVE Beowulf, wretched excess and all. Never get sick of it. Well, I was going to continue my Les Miz critique, but seeing as nobody's interested, I'll hold off for now. Magpie tried to start a thread on it, and nobody replied to that either. I thought she'd visit this thread at least.... Happy New Year everyone....

I have to say the popularity of the 80s musical version dampen's my enthusiasm somewhat, and this is based on that version, no? Regardless, the trailer looks great -- except that Anne Hathaway looks a little too healthy in one of the scenes, not that I can't live with that, but she's supposed to be destitute I thought It appears that many of the cast of Burton's Sweeney Todd, which I thought very well done, appear in this one as well. I hope to see it soon. Want to see Django Unchained first. Still haven't seen The Hobbit

I think Sunflower was referring to this thread by Sueb1863, Or maybe this one by PattyJB. ... and if I was following Sunflower correctly, she was trying to make the point that perhaps people were too distracted by The Hobbit to care about The Miserables or any other recently released film. That aside, your reaction still has me chuckling.

because it doesn't amount to anything in the grand scheme of things, but I would rather stick pins in my eyes than see that film. Or any other musical for that matter.

I had already saw The Hobbit twice I decided to see Les Miserables on Friday. I really enjoyed both movies. Martin did really well as Bilbo and I totally loved the Dwarves. One of my favorite scenes was the riddle scene with Gollum and Bilbo. I was totally blown away by Les Miserables the, singing, for the most part, was incredible. Now I have to read the book!

Actually that was my first reaction too Starling... though like you I decided it was better to say nothing. But then I saw the trailer and my interest became piqued: - I'm a sucker for that period in military history and the costumes looked great; - I quite liked Sweeney Todd... and as I said I recognized many of the cast of that movie in the trailer; - When I said Anne Hathaway looked too healthy, it wasn't necessarily a bad thing from a certain perspective (nudge, nudge); and ... Wait! Why am I defending myself here? I didn't go to this much trouble explaining why I wanted to see Breaking Dawn 2 (which I missed in theatres thank you very much)

I'm sure there is something seriously wrong with me for that to be true and even more so that I would admit it. If Les Miserables comes to my neighborhood second run theater and it's a week I can make it, I might go see it. If not, I doubt I'll rent the movie. I don't hate all musicals. I like Moulin Rouge! I liked Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. (great dancing!) Pirates of Penzance. And Rocky Horror Picture Show. And I like the music from quite a few.
