While I like the prequels (more than the originals, overall).

So you're the one!

And i would agree with whoever said George Lucas' downfall started before the prequels. His descent to the dark side began with Return of the Jedi (belching frogs, teddy bears, musical numbers) and was complete by Temple of Doom. But you can not include Empire in that-- C3P0 might get a little annoying, but that movie is truly great.

Jar Jar [In reply to] Can't Post

Help me out here.

Peter Jackson's craft is not up to snuff, but Jar Jar, wooden acting and the worst dialogue written outside of Shark Attack 3 ("I hate sand, it gets everywhere.") passes the test?

I've met plenty of people that like the prequels, but never one that prefers them. I'm just joshing anyway.

Well then, yes, that's me [In reply to] Can't Post

Revenge of the Sith is by far my favorite, followed by The Empire Strikes Back. Then Phantom Menace. A New Hope and Return of the Jedi are probably tied somewhere below that, and Attack of the Clones is the worst of the bunch, IMO.

You're probably the only person on earth that thinks that The Phantom Menace is superior to the original Star Wars. Not that this is a bad thing.Tongue

Many prefer the prequels and like the originals.

And TPM also holds a place in my heart that none of the originals have. Also, ill take Jar Jar any day over countless moments of Teddybear Civilization. Tongue

Teddybear Civilization [In reply to] Can't Post

Definitely one of the lowest points of the original trilogy. I cannot figure out why they went with teddybears over an army of wookies.

One of the many highlights of TPM for me was Anakin's relationship with his mother. Their farewell scene was absolutely brilliant.

I also greatly enjoy the politics of the prequels. I'm disappointed that so many of the senate scenes from episodes 2 & 3 were left on the cutting room floor.

Correction: the one and only highlight. [In reply to] Can't Post

(and the Maul / Qui-Gon / Obivan threesome)

Not because of Anakin, because he was an awful actor, but the mother was okay.

Agreed [In reply to] Can't Post

one of those decisions that just makes me go.....if only!! Why, why , why??

An army of wookies would have been quite interetsing. Theres just too many puppets and fuzzy little furry bears for the great sequel to TESB.

Not really a fan of Kindergarden Vader, Sly but i greatly appreciated the politics of the prequels and like you, wish they had kept more scenes.

The Maul/Qui-gon/Obi-wan fight [In reply to] Can't Post

was absolutely fantastic! The choreography is brilliant, especially once it gets down to just Maul and Obi-wan. The intensity just blows me away every time.

You might think Jedi has more highlights, but Menace definitely has more for me. I could list them, but since we've both already made up our minds, it would just be an exercise in futility Wink

Wookies [In reply to] Can't Post

From what I've heard, that was the original idea. Not sure why that was scrapped.

I love little Anakin. I think Jake Lloyd does a great job for a child actor. It's important to remember that much of his characterization (yippes and soforth) aren't an acting problem but a directing problem. Many of them should have been cut. But his scenes with his mother are absolutely fantastic, and I enjoy them every single time I watch it.

I also think Qui-gon is the most down-to-earth and relatable character in the entire saga. He's definitely the anchor of the film, and Liam Neeson gives a wonderful performance. Another great actor is Ian McDiarmid. He just nails it in every scene he's in.

I could continue to rave, but I'll stop there for now Angelic

Ok then... [In reply to] Can't Post

Naboo...gawd that place is gorgeous. Heart

Ewan McGregor makes a wonderful young Obi-wan, and continues to do so throughout the next two films.

Natalie Portman is as beautiful as ever, and does wonderful as the young Queen/handmaid. She's more likable when the undercover handmaid, but being queen is alright too. And her costumes are all fantastic. Props to the costume designer on all three prequels. Padme's outfits are some of the most wonderful I've seen. I also love that the small carved piece of wood that Anakin gives her in TPM is in her hands during her funeral. Wonderful, wonderful.

Ok, that's enough for now. Maybe someday I'll treat you to my thoughts on Revenge of the Sith Tongue
