Me, just 2 - was hoping to squeeze in a 48 fps showing this weekend, but it didn't work out. But soon!

I plan to take it to at least three before its run ends in the cinema.
Last night I watched the Norwegian film Troll Hunter - lots of fun. Their trolls are scarier than The Hobbit's trolls, although TH's trolls are funnier.

Disney's Christmas Carol and The Muppets

Mixed feelings about the CGI Christmas Carol. The Ghosts were spectacular, particularly the Ghost of Christmas Past - which I think is the best I've ever seen. However, the same thing that worked for the Ghosts made many of the human characters seem stiff and a little disturbingly unrealistic. This version also included the darker elements of the original short story which, we should remember, is a Ghost story which isn't necessarily child oriented.
Then, I finally caught an airing of The Muppets, which I've wanted to see for nostalgia purposes as well as due to good reviews. It's a cute kids movie, of course, but as an adult who grew up with the franchise and is aware of what it's been through, I can't help but read a moving allegory into it of the studio pulling itself up again after the devastating double knock-out blows it suffered with the tragic deaths of Jim Henson (Kermit, Rowlf, Dr. Teeth) and Richard Hunt (Scooter, Janice, Beaker) - and I'm pretty certain that was intended. Yes, I'll freely admit I teared up when the first notes of The Rainbow Connection started, as it's had a whole new significance since those events.
Sidelined with a cold, so I haven't gotten to The Hobbit yet.

Second time in 2D, I'm not really ready for 3D viewing! First time was last weekend with Geeky Son and hubby, this time with the entire family, as my girls are home for the holiday, and we tend to all be rather geeky. 
And yes - the second time, it's even better.
I did see Lincoln last weekend, excellent performance by Daniel Day-Lewis (hubby, who's a Civil War buff, says Lincoln did indeed have a higher-pitched voice), but we agreed it was overall just a step above a PBS presentation, don't know how it's getting 4-star ratings.

but we have tickets for an 11:45 am Christmas Day showing of Real 3D HFR.
Haven't watched much else except for a movie I watched on Amazon Prime: The Giant Mechanical Man.
This is one of those quirky indie movies distributed by Tribeca Films. Last week I watched another quirky film, Safety Not Guaranteed, and really didn't like it much. I did like this one, however. I can't explain why one and not the other, but I empathized with the characters in this and even though Topher Grace played a giant tool (he is not the giant mechanical man, however), I even understood him a little at the end and forgave him his faults.
For everyone who's ever felt like they just didn't fit in ... this film's for you.

and will go again next weekend with daughter. May try for three... not certain. I love the big screen experience but my tightwad heritage cringes at ticket prices when I know I'll buy the video and be able to watch it at home repeatedly.
Mostly doing lots of Christmas movies.... Christmas Story, Miracle on 34th St, Grinch, Rudolph....

Saw it on the Thursday opening ... Saturday ... Wednesday as a spur-of-the-moment ... and then on this past Thursday. So I guess I'm already clocking in about half a day's worth of Hobbit-viewing.  Were it any other movie that was nearly 3 hours long, I probably wouldn't see it so many times in so little time.
In the meanwhile I've been busying myself with Christmas movies/specials - Home Alone 2 and The Year Without a Santa Claus in particular. I'll likely be sitting down for It's A Wonderful Life and A Christmas Story tomorrow, that is, after some last minute shopping.

Though we may fit in a third over the holidays.
We also finally watched Toy Story 3 this weekend, (yes, I'm a little behind!), which I really enjoyed. Thought it was very well done. Hoping to rent the latest Muppets movie to watch later.
(Yes, I still rent movies from our local Blockbuster. Online streaming has passed me by, thus far!)

Took my wife opening day to see the Hobbit in 2d 24fps. Then last Friday I went by myself to see it in 3d 48 fps. Enjoyed it in 24 fps, enjoyed it at 48fps but found the 3d to be a distraction.
There was a man.

Only one Hobbit viewing so far, but there will be more. :)
Apart from that, just DVDs at home lately:
- we recently bought the entire "West Wing" series as a boxed set, and are hugely enjoying re-watching.
- watched the Downton Abbey Christmas Special (last season's, not the brand-new one) last night
- tonight will be our annual viewing of "Love Actually". I never tire of it.

But I am probably not destined to spend that extra money, I am guessing.
Concerning Brave:
It was short and it wasn't predictable. I felt so sure that I knew what the ending would be halfway through but I was totally off. I cried at part of it. I really liked the "moral of the story". It was nice to see a movie where there really was only one truly evil person (and plenty of questionable folks who try in their own way).

Love the costumes in both. Third time for TH. I watched a 1999 film about Joan of Arc after hearing about Weta Workshop's deal with Freemantle Media to film a tv series next year in Wellington based on the book "The Maid" about her life. Here's a 17-minute video with Richard Taylor describing it.

all 3 LOTR's movies and then saw with mrs. sil, master sil and friend the IMAX 3-D TH at 10:30PM. It was just the crowning moment of a grand Tolkien day. TH is was on the stellar side of awesome. It was a joy to meet the dwarves 'in the rough' and all the cast from the LOTR's. I am truly thankful that Peter decided on all that he did and we have yet 2 movies on the 'enthrallment' plan.
I MUST experience the 48fps very soon for a true perspective.

I discovered that the same theater at which I saw it in 2D last week is also showing it in HFR 3D, so that will be my experience today.

My sister got stuck at my house for a night due to inclement weather, so we made a movie night of it. She had never seen The Shop Around The Corner or Iron Man, so we watched them one after the other. Well, she did. I fell asleep towards the end of Iron Man.
Spent Christmas Eve watching Christmas episodes of old television shows and a disc of Disney Christmas cartoons with husband and youngest son. Husband fell asleep this time.
My sister took my boys to see AUJ again while my husband and I were Christmas shopping, so I've only seen it once. But I plan on going in the next couple of days to see it again (I hope).

Lawrence of Arabia just now on Christmas Day on TV. Heard so many things about it and I knew it was a grand (and LONG) epic from the early 1960's. Surprisingly, it didn't look dated at all compared to other 50-something-year-old films and it was visually stunning all the way. 4/5.

2nd viewing of The Hobbit was this past Saturday, with my oldest son. 2D this time (for sure, my preference!). Felt I was much more able to settle back and get in to the story this go round! If it's still playing in one of the nearby theaters when my youngest son gets in for a visit in a couple of weeks, I will go for a 3rd time.

I saw TH in Imax 3D at the 12:01 am opening night. Saw it again last week in 2D (which I preferred), and I will see it again for third time as soon as TH is eligible for one of my free movie passes.
Today we saw Django Unchained, which was a hoot and a half. We have a group of 7-10 friends who always get together on Christmas day to see a movie and eat Chinese. Django was this year's xmas flick, and it's one of QT's best efforts. Tarantino fans will love it, others not so much.
