Advice for Peter Jackson!

This is a very interesting piece saying what needs to be done to improve the next two films. It's probably premature to post this now when we haven't seen the actual film, but I think it shows what will be the basis of the many, many discussions and arguments to come! http://whatculture.com/...needs-to-improve.php

I think Jackson has come far enough without having to listen to the musings of a wretched film blog. 'Try not to live up to LOTR', and yet that is exactly what the writer of the article wants in most cases. Many of these things will happen naturally - more character development, more Bilbo, bigger set pieces. The guy seems to have no idea about the import of the White Council - it is not merely fan service. More Gollum? Says about everything doesn't it?

The first film needs to introduce all the characters. They'll be more time to flesh them out in the next films. Likewise, the next film will feature fewer CGI characters, since there are no trolls, goblins etc.

Looks like we can see why people think it's slow...

The slow part is the scene where they're explaining Sauron's involvement in the story... as no-one really knows anything about this aspect, characters talking about it probably comes across as confusing and drawn-out, especially for non-fans. I'm sure once we've seen the other films these scenes will make more sense to everyone and seem less slow

If AUJ using a ton of times to give a ton of expositions as many critics reviewed. Why still there are many complaint about Lacking of spotlight on other 11 dwarves (not counted Thorin and Balin). I fear that if PJ shootted 3 films in a row. it's impossible to change this issue.

We have PJ behind these films and not this ridiculous and ignorant journalist on 'whatculture'... This is a perfect example of the narrow mindedness that keeps people from enjoying the film. Sucks for them.

An hour of AUJ is use just to introduce the Dwarves and the Quest. That doesn't need to be done in every film. Plus, it shouldn't be a problem for us. We all know the Dwarves' personalities, characteristics etc. Exposition shouldn't be a problem for us.

You develop characters as you need them to move forward the story. In the end some of the dwarves might be less fleshed than others, but dealing with 13 backstories at the same time was unrealistic. The Hobbit is not about 13 dwarves and a Hobbit, at least for me. It's about a Hobbit who goes on an adventure with a dwarf king who wants to reclaim his kingdom with a bunch of his people. That's it. A hobbit----- (the hero) A dwarf king------ (the plot) A bunch of other dwarves---- (the background) That's what you need to tell the story. In a ciematic form.

So a 2 bit journo from a 2 bit website thinks he can tell a director who started a whole film industry in his own country, has won handfulls of oscars and made a billion dollar film franchise? i suggest to him if he thinks he can do better he should go out and start his own film career. what a plonker. all people do these days is criticise people. if you dont like something , do something about it rather than sitting at home typing into a picture box. probably only after page hits anyway

The Uruk-Hai didn't look anything like that and neither did the orcs in Moria. That has a more rag-tag orc army feel to it where we saw orcs in a wide variety of armor and garb.
Arthur: What manner of man are you that can summon up fire without flint or tinder? Tim: I... am an enchanter. Arthur: By what name are you known? Tim: There are some who call me... 'Tim'...? Arthur: ...greetings, Tim the Enchanter.

But it is definitely that scene. The two orcs next to him are exactly the same. And he is holding the bow. Perhaps the screen cap is from an earlier trailer that was altered in the final version.

atleast Fili and Kili will have a big role in the battle of five armies for fightting alongside with Thorin till the end. If PJ cant give them some spotlight or cant make him deserve for some love of people. thier death will be just two dwarves's death.

The advice is somewhat contradictory. On one hand he wants Martin Freeman brought to the forefront, ond the other he wants PJ to develop the dwarves a bit more. He won't include Gollum in the second and third films... but hopefully Smaug can be the 'new gollum'.

I think he does have a point though. I would have preferred to see less CGI and although I haven't seen the movie I'm pretty sure that it is too long.

the guy might be right (to some extent) about PJ using too much CGI and silly humour. Take a look at this, it's just nasty. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agLDrArVDu0#t=0m46s
