It's the Friday before The Hobbit opens - welcome to Fiesta Friday!!

Welcome, everyone! Well, the day is finally nigh. This week, on the 12th, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will start opening worldwide. By this time next week, many of us will be bleary-eyed, or asleep, having gone to midnight showings and Line Parties. Others will be getting their tickets for the weekend out every five minutes and saying: "my precioiusssssssss...." So, will you be seeing it before next weekend? If yes, tell us when and where. BG and I have to work, so we won't make it to a midnight show, but we'll be at the theater bright and early Saturday a.m. for an IMAX 3-D 48fps experience. Is this too cool or what!!!! Yippeee! *kicks juke box* the Hallelujah Chorus by Johann Strauss Orchestra and the Harlem Gospel Choir fills the room. Have wonderful week, everyone!!

It comes to us on our birthday. Not a bad way to spend it either! One week to go!
Out of the darkness of my life, so much frustrated, I put before you the one great thing to love on earth: the Blessed Sacrament... There you will find romance, glory, honour, fidelity, and the true way of all your loves on earth, and more than that: Death: by the divine paradox, that which ends life, and demands the surrender of all, and yet by the taste (or foretaste) of which alone can what you seek in your earthly relationships (love, faithfulness, joy) be maintained, or take on that complexion of reality, of eternal endurance, which every man's heart desires. --J.R.R. Tolkien, Letter #43, to his son Michael

Those of us who are NARF are waiting for a more civilized hour. We'll probably take the Little Eruvandes and some cousins over the Christmas break. For now, I'm reading The Hobbit aloud to them at night to get ready. And I got the Rolling Stone special edition with all the lovely photos to drool over. How about a mojito, Altaira? *stuffs tip jar with pink roses* Yes I've still got a rose blooming.
I am SMAUG! I kill when I wish! I am strong, strong, STRONG! My armor is like tenfold shields! My teeth like swords! My claws, spears! The shock of my tail, a thunderbolt! My wings, a hurricane! And my breath, death!

I am now a surgeon As for The Hobbit i will be seeing it at my local Cineworld which is showing it in IMAX HFR 3D. I am excited for the imax and 3d as i know i like that, the hfr i have heard some differing views but thought why not, might even push the boat out and get d-box seating as a present to myself for graduating!

I realized the other day that I've now known a woman I met at the first showing of The Two Towers for ten years! Has it been that long? We won't be doing any midnight showings of The Hobbit, thank you, but will try to make a showing next Friday. We're aiming to start with the 2D 24 fps, firstly so the unaccustomed format won't distract from the story and characters, secondly because I'm prone to migraines and would like to get a few reports about how migraine-erific either the 3D or the 48 fps is before I go there. I know I won't be grabbed by this trilogy the way I was grabbed by the LotR trilogy, since LotR's always been my favorite of the books. But I'll enjoy the heck out of it. Meanwhile, I have novel-revisions to do, and Christmas cards to address. This year I had cards made up with the photo of the Gaffer and me in Hobbiton, in front of Bag End, that I've posted on TORn more than once. It's been a whole year since we were there, sigh. I'll grab a gingerbread latte, please, and get back to work, if not without sneaking frequent peeks at The Hobbit board. (And by the way, please excuse Miss Professional Speller here, but it is PEEK! A "peak" is what the Lonely Mountain is. ) *stuffs tip jar with glitter from our front-door wreath, which looked a lot smaller in the store...*

Midnight shows would indeed be impossible with little ones. I could probably take Friday off, but BG can't, so I'll wait to see it with by sweetheart, and you'll wait to see it with your sweethearts too. Enjoy the weekend and the last few days/weeks of anticipation.

I can just imagine what next Friday's Fiesta will be like...! Imax? Nice! Geeky Son and I plan to watch it at our local independent theater in glorious 2D this weekend. I need to ask an older friend, who loves Tolkien but has yet to get a computer, to come with us. Then later at a 48fps theater, there are two that are both an hour away from us. And when the rest of the kids come home for Christmas, we'll have a massive family viewing! Oh - might I have a mocha coffee, please, Altaira? It's getting blustery here!

Part of me wishes we would have gotten 23 24fps tickets first, but we're committed now and, I confess, I'm dying to see what all the fuss is about. Using that Hobbiton pic for your Xmass cards is such a cute idea! I bet the cards are adorable. Best of luck with getting everything done by next Friday! (I didn't use the work peak, did I? I can spell fine, but sometimes my typing fingers don't pay attention to that). Happy weekend, dear!

I know everyone's excited about The Hobbit opening, but I have another cause for happiness: I successfully defended my dissertation Monday. So yes, I am Dr. Annael now! This whole experience has been wonderful for me, but I have to say, the defense and the reaction I got from the other students and my professors was way beyond what I expected. I had a sense I was on to something that would really touch people, but was amazed by how strongly it actually did. Also amazed by how strongly I was affected the moment my chair called me "Doctor." Seriously, it was as good as my wedding day. Already started working on the book that I always meant to write - the dissertation just being the necessary springboard. Even though I've also been partying the last three days straight.

we'll snag some tickets to the 3D version for next Friday or Saturday. I'm hoping the great buildup of anticipation around here provides enough motivation to get those rooms company-ready. I think it'll work; my Hobbit's even been shooshing people whenever the movie previews are on TV! This year for Christmas, my Hobbit gets to let his cousin sleep on the lower bunk in his room, and Beamer'll be bunking in with me so my sister, BiL and niece can have her room. We gotta get this place two-year-old ready! Oh, I'll have a nice cup of tea before I go back to crazy-holiday-prep mode. Oh, wait, I have to place the cookie order for my Girl Scout troop today. And the Christmas baskets tonight at our meeting. And Beamer's having a sleepover. And tomorrow's the holiday party/recital at the kids' dance studio. And maybe the Kristkindlsmarkt in Denver, if the weather holds. I almost hope it doesn't, we need the snow that badly... GAA!!!
