At the risk of crashing the website I thought it would be nice to discuss where everyone is from. Myself-Hampshire, England. What about you? Is Tolkien fandom common where you live?
‘As they came to the gates Cirdan the Shipwright came forth to greet them. Very tall he was, and his beard was long, and we was grey and old, save that his eyes were keen as stars; and he looked at them and bowed, and said ‘All is now ready.’ Perhaps the most fascinating Individual in Middle Earth

but have lived around Indianapolis, IN (USA) for 20 years. This is where I met my lovely wife. This place has changed (for the better) so much while I have lived here. As a sports fan, there are plenty of things to do and see. One really needs to experience seeing the main straightaway at IMS on Race Day in person at least once in their life. It is so cool.

Tolkien fandom is VERY common. The LOTR movies were a smashing hit here, millions of people watched them (in a country with just 9 million inhabitants). Almost everyone have read the books, and if they havent, they for sure know what it's about. No matter how TH will perform in America or Southern Europe, One thing I am 100% certain of: The Hobbit will be immensely popular in all of Scandinavia. Here, LOTR and TH is more popular than super-heroes, and not the other way around
The greatest adventure is what lies ahead.

Born there, grown up in a more rural town and moved here because I work in Eindhoven, which is about 10km away. In The Netherlands there is a Tolkien society, Unquendor (literally low country, which is of course the translation of The Netherlands). They are very active, organising lots of fun and interesting events. Close to me, friends, they tolerate me, but they aren't into it as I am.

Southeastern Connecticut, not far from the coast; I grew up in Massachusetts and went to college in Maine, so I haven't moved far. I know there must be some Tolkien fans in this area, because there's a cinema in Rhode Island which has been showing the Trilogy at least once a year! The last time I went, Geeky Son and I met up with greendragon and L. Ron Halfelven. I'm close enough also to Lossefalme, Ethel Duath, silneldor, and Smeagirl/Girllum to have an occasional moot (or attend a Renaissance Faire). I've met up with other local Tornfolks, both active and once-active, at various times, and I know there are several more in this area.

If you want to know why I am always going on about earthquakes, have a look here. If you click on one of the dates at the top, you can see a graphic representation. Since September 4th, 2010, we have been undergoing a series of earthquakes. The most damaging was on 22nd February 2011. 185 lives were lost. We are up to around 11,000 earthquakes and aftershocks now. Shaky isles indeed. We've had a real bashing here, but it's my home. I Christchurch.

Out of the darkness of my life, so much frustrated, I put before you the one great thing to love on earth: the Blessed Sacrament... There you will find romance, glory, honour, fidelity, and the true way of all your loves on earth, and more than that: Death: by the divine paradox, that which ends life, and demands the surrender of all, and yet by the taste (or foretaste) of which alone can what you seek in your earthly relationships (love, faithfulness, joy) be maintained, or take on that complexion of reality, of eternal endurance, which every man's heart desires. --J.R.R. I'm originally from central Illinois with stints in Wisconsin, Ohio, and a bit of time in central New Jersey, but Boston feels like home ("Love that dirty water"). I have not actively sought out Tolkien-themed events here, but they do exist. I believe the 3rd Middle-earth Conference, Part 2 will be taking place in Westford (a suburb) in 2014. There may be more, given that Boston is considered to be a fan and gamer friendly city. Plus there are bona fide Tolkien scholars here in the Commonwealth, e.g., Michael Drout at Wheaton College in Norton. Further afield, I think Wayne Hammond (of Hammond and Scull) is on the staff of Williams College out in the beautiful Berkshires.

FingonOfBuffalo doesn't sound right either.
--J.R.R. Tolkien, Letter #43, to his son Michael

And hopefully the amount of Tolkien fandoms in New Zealand can make up for the pathetic lack of here.

I was born and raised about twentysome miles due south of Champaign-Urbana (home of my undergrad alma mater), so a bit more to the east, but still pretty close to where you live, I'd guess. And I think I can guess!

I know I'm no tech genius, but I can usually click on links without problems. Anyway, it was a cool video. It looked like it was fairly cloudy, but, not only did it not interfere, it actully added to the mysterious atmosphere. Thanks! And yes, it was interesting to what's going on in New Zealand.

I have to say there are a lot of Brits on TORn. I, myself, am a Brit as well. From East Yorkshire in fact, some would say I'm from Hull, but that isn't in East Yorkshire. Let's just say I'm almost from Hull ha. Just West of Hull, in a small town called Hessle.

North Dakota, USA. At least it was when I was a kid back in the 80s. For those not familiar with North Dakota, which probably includes most of the Americans on here, it is a sparsely populated rural, Midwestern state. The temperature can drop as low as -80 degrees with the wind chill in the winters and can get as hot as 120 in the summers. I'm not.certain, but I think Morgoth lives here. Although I think Manwe lives here too cause 700,000 people live in the state and there is an average of 5 murders a year. Every state has a few Feanors.
As three great Jewels they were in form. But not until the End, when Fëanor shall return who perished ere the Sun was made, and sits now in the Halls of Awaiting and comes no more among his kin; not until the Sun passes and the Moon falls, shall it be known of what substance they were made. Like the crystal of diamonds it appeared, and yet was more strong than adamant, so that no violence could mar it or break it within the Kingdom of Arda.

We live about an hour away, and my wife is originally from Minot so we get there frequently. It's quite depressing to see all the houses still damaged a year later. Thank god we had an abnormally mild winter or else the poor people In FEMA homes might have froze to death. Currently, Minot is inundated with unemployed out of staters looking for work. Because of the oil boom, the recession never hit here, so there has been an influx of people. Wanna make $20 an hour at a fast food joint? Move to NDnd you'll have a job in about 3 seconds. Of course you'll have a hard time finding a place to live. My parents bought their house in 1991 for $18,000. They've made some improvements, but nothing major. The house is worth over $400,000 now. 5 years ago towns were filled with empty houses, now you can't even get a hotel room half the time.
