If you could choose any (human) character from Middle-Earth, who would you be?

I've said human characters for two reasons: The idea of the poll is for it to be "real" in a sense, i.e. as Hobbits, Elves, Dwarves etc don't exist in the real world (sadly, I know), you must pick a character that you could actually be (or at least be similar to) if we were living hundreds of years in the past. Secondly, I want to avoid people picking Dwarves, Elves or Hobbits because of their lifespan (Dunedain are still allowed though). This is because, as sad as it may be, there is no point hiding from it: we will all die one day. Sorry if any of my reasoning for this sounds odd or morbid, but hopefully you can see what I'm getting at even if it's not expressed terribly well. That aside, who would you be? My personal preference would be "Other" (I'd be Malbeth the Seer) P.S. Sorry for the lack of female options, hopefully the "other" option will do the trick

I'm not saying they don't exist in real life...just not to our knowledge. Technically Bombadil doesn't count, as he is a being of much greater power. But since you asked, I'll let you off and you can have him.

Not enough people like him! I'd go for one of the Edain - perhaps Beor himself - First Age everything are always superior.

He has a great story. Enslaved by Sauron, deceives Morgoth, carried by eagles, holds a Silmaril, dies, returns to Middle-earth. And best of all, he marries the most beautiful being in all of Middle-earth. It doesn't get much better than that!

I love the story. I find it very interesting, and sad that it was never finished. Ultimately, though, his story is pretty sad, and I wouldn't want to live that. I'm fine with just reading it

Unless I wish to be a man I'm out of options here. And because boring old horsey me can't part with the beasts I guess the answer would be "Eowyn or any other woman of Rohan would do" My favourite - as in "most interesting" - human character from that list is Denethor but I quite certainly wouldn't want to be him. I'd totally stand by, watch his life and marvel at how he came to be that demented old chap but that's as far as my fascination goes

That's a tough question, in the sense that there is in my view, lots of interesting Human character in Middle-Earth. After reflection I've narrow it down to 4 characters: Aragorn, Faramir, Tùor and Éomer. To choose one my choice would be Aragorn. He is obviously a very interesting character, not only because he is the heir of Isildur but for his personality, his values and his inner forces. One have to mention his greater life span as well. It's simply just hard not to choose him and I am not suprised to see thta others did so as well.

If I ever found myself in middle-earth, I would basically want to be a female version of Aragorn. Maybe I should have gone for 'other', but 'Aragorn' is simpler.

I chose aragorn, just because he is so cool, in a subtle, distict kind of way. One of the lines I love in the movie is " you do not have the cares you carry now" which is what arwen says to aragorn in rivendell. Don't ask me why, it just speaks to me. I almost chose Beren though, he is extremeley cool. He is practically the father of men. But boromir, I think, resembles the Brash but kind hearted character, who makes mistakes, but means well. I think we all have a bit of boromir in us. And by beregond, I assume you mean the beregond of the tower guard of minas tirith, not the beregond who was a steward of gondor?

I'd like to be a female Aragorn as well. I might also have chosen Faramir, but it's just so sad that his father doesn't respect him the way he does Boromir.

Then I would be a woman from Gondor. Even as a child when I first read the books, I felt such a connection to the white city, ancient and full of learning, the sea calling to me, the white tree lovingly guarded and tended. I felt like I would have been descended from the race of Numenor, for I was tall with dark hair and grey eyes, and for a long time my favorite colors were cool blue, soft lavender grey and silvery grey. I guess I would have been Aethelwyne, for that name will always be a part of me even though... as a hobbit, I now feel my name should be Bellawen Bolger of Bree! and I wish I could change it if the mods would forgive me for changing my name twice last year. I swear this would be the last time!
